Vickers hardness tests show that the Hf addition increases the hardness of Mo–Si–B–Hf alloys. The oxidation experiments were conducted at 800 °C and 1100 °C for 12 h; the detailed analysis revealed that the formation of HfSiO4 in Mo–12Si–12B–10Hf alloy can effectively decrease the content of oxygen and make the surface of the oxide layer more complete at 800 °C. At 1100°C, the distinct difference in the expansion coefficient among the oxide films results in the formation of cracks and holes in Mo–12Si–12B–10Hf alloy, so the Mo–12Si–12B–10Hf alloy shows poor oxidation resistance.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"58 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141799042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a consequence, an enhanced microstructure and a more refined grain size are achieved. The study compares the microstructure, phase composition, and mechanical properties of as-deposited and as-annealed TC4 alloys via various oscillation paths. The results show that the microstructure of the deposited TC4 alloys under the four oscillation paths is primarily acicular and cluster martensitic. Additionally, the plasticity of the specimens in the annealed state displays an overall improvement, except for linear oscillation, which experiences a decrease in overall yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. This can be attributed to the sub-stable α’ phase undergoing coarsening during annealing and eventually decomposing into (α + β) phase tissue. The β phase, with a BCC structure and more slip systems, has a lower tensile strength but greater plasticity.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"47 50","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141799822","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By extending the pouring interval, the interface area characteristic changes from local mixing solidification to shrinkage-filling solidification. Both interfaces exhibit high binding and tensile strength, exceeding 500 MPa. The casting bimetallic plates display a straight sequentially solidified interface with a carbide-free zone of approximately 16.5 μm. The interfacial adhesion and tensile strength of the plates also exceed 500 MPa. Based on the obtained results and theoretical basis, over 20 types of crusher hammers weighing between 7 and 250 kg, as well as various wear plates have been produced. Both castings exhibit high pass rate a long lifespan.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"44 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141799013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, researchers have focused on how the addition of rare earth (RE) elements to Mg alloys and the modification methods affect their tribological behaviour. This overview reflects the research on the wear of Mg alloys. Several treatments and modification methods have been utilised to improve the wear behaviour of Mg alloys, including cryogenic treatment, deep cryogenic treatment, precipitation hardening, surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) and laser surface melting. Accordingly, except for SMAT, the other processes positively affected the wear resistance. Therefore, adding RE elements to Mg alloys and applying modification processes improve the wear resistance, especially at high temperatures.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"61 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141798780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The factors affecting shear band formation in the material and strategies to aid their early emergence by various alloy and process modifications to sustain a self-sharpened head during penetration are the main focus of this review article. Changes in the microstructural features such as tungsten grain size, dihedral angle and contiguity and mechanical properties by the addition of various alloying constituents and post-processing are critically discussed, along with high strain rate deformation behaviour analysis. This article also captures recent developments in the last decade and future prospects in the field of tungsten heavy alloys.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"76 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141802278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study uses gas tungsten arc welding to join commercially pure titanium sheets to electrolytic tough pitch copper without using filler metal, and electrical currents ranging from 80 to 100 A to achieve completely penetrated joints. Microstructure analysis shows the formation of a columnar structure of IMCs at the weld zone, including Ti2Cu, TiCu, Ti3Cu4, Ti2Cu3, and TiCu3. Tensile and three-point bending tests were carried out to investigate the effects of IMCs formed by welding on the mechanical properties. The maximum tensile strength was achieved for the sample with the thinnest intermetallic layer, while brittle fractures were observed in all samples.","PeriodicalId":516293,"journal":{"name":"Materials Science and Technology","volume":"99 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141802327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alterations in calcination temperatures between 720 and 800°C in an argon atmosphere yielded different NiO crystal sizes. The smallest crystals, obtained at 760°C, exhibited the highest specific capacity, reaching 991.2 mAh g–1 at 0.5 C. The NiO electrode showed an impressive capacitance retention rate of approximately 98% over 300 cycles. This method offers high-performance NiO materials with extended life cycles, making it a strong candidate for use in lithium-ion battery anodes. Using saturated potassium hydroxide (KOH) aids in nickel oxide precipitation, improving performance.
