For restaurant managers, enhancing customer attachment to the restaurant brand is critical. However, few studies have examined the drivers of customer brand attachment. Our research investigated the association between innovativeness and brand attachment and the mediating role of memorable brand experience. A self-administered questionnaire survey method was adopted. Data were gathered from customers of coffee shops in Taiwan. The results revealed that out of four dimensions of restaurant innovativeness, menu innovativeness and experiential innovativeness exerted a positive influence on brand attachment through the creation of a memorable experience. Experiential innovativeness also exerted a direct positive influence on brand attachment. Few studies have explored the development of brand attachment from the perspective of innovativeness. Hence, our study may be the first to offer a framework that connects innovativeness, memorable brand experience, and brand attachment.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44134645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The survey research obtained a sample of 238 respondents. Collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS (21.0). Analysis of categorical variables (Chi-square test) and coefficients of correlation, together with descriptive statistics, indicated that the local community has reliable attitudes on potentials for development of sport-events, as well as the most popular “Drinska regatta.” However, members of the local community still do not recognize possibilities of using tourism resources for gaining personal and community-wide benefits. Therefore, efforts aimed at further tourism development within the researched border municipalities should be valorized and adequately represented in the tourism market in cooperation with the local population.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/1096348020927444","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45067782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Does such isomorphism provide a financial advantage to Airbnb? Using large-scale Airbnb trajectory data from 10 major U.S. metropolitan areas over 3 years, we find superior financial performance for Airbnb listings that imitate hotels compared with those that do not. Yet, as more Airbnb listings enter a local market, the performance-driving advantage of work collection is attenuated while instant booking becomes stronger. Suggestions for future research regarding a legitimacy-tipping point in institutional theory are provided.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43030555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is limited information about work engagement and turnover among waitering staff (servers). This study analyzed which antecedents (e.g., employer brand, extraversion, and stereotype) impact servers’ occupational identity, and how this relationship affects work engagement and employee turnover within a theoretically informed conceptual framework. A sample of servers in London based Michelin-starred restaurants was used (N = 398). Although extraversion and stereotype reactance were not found to be relevant to occupational identity, employer brand was. The notion that the construction of occupational identity has consequences for work engagement and employee turnover was supported, as positive relationships were found. This research has practical implications for restaurant management strategy, and informs further investigations within the field.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10963480211034903","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47005776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the critical aspects at the regional level is the absence of a clear definition of instruments and methodologies able to involve all the actors and to meet different policy targets. The aim of this study is to assess the economic and environmental impact of the tourism carrying capacity by proposing a framework able to deal with multiple variables. To this end, a social accounting matrix is built for a local area composed by four municipalities within the Sardinia region (Italy), and then it is used as a reference frame to implement the extended multisectoral model. Such an approach will provide results, on visitors flow recorded in the Asinara National Park, in terms of value added and CO2 emissions changes.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10963480211031426","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49305062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To do so, we applied the method proposed by Filippini and Greene, within a stochastic frontier panel data framework. Our empirical analysis is based on data for the hotel industry in the Canary Islands (Spain), an important destination for European tourists, for the period 2002-2015. Using a stochastic translog cost frontier model, we show that the industry’s real output during the study period could have been achieved at 17% less cost if persistent (systematic) inefficiency were eliminated, and at 24% less cost in the absence of transient (nonsystematic) inefficiency. We also present evidence of factors that strongly influence hotels’ transient cost efficiency, such as the positive effects of market share (in total revenue terms) and certain management characteristics, including the degree of independence with respect to shareholders, the experience in the industry (years in business) and the number of subsidiaries.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10963480211032254","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46766909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extensive research has investigated the nature of resident support for tourism events, yet the role of a key construct, tolerance, has been underexplored. Building on the extant literature, this study conceptualizes and tests the theoretical construct of tolerance as a missing link to better understand, measure, and clarify the exchange process. The results suggest that resident tolerance partially mediates the effects of perceived benefits on resident support for events while fully mediating the effects of perceived costs on such support. In addition, resident empowerment is a critical factor explaining tolerance. This study contributes to the literature by identifying the major source of the unbalanced impacts of benefits and costs on support reported in previous studies. Findings also offer a more complete picture on how residents translate the perceived impacts of tourism events into support through tolerance.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10963480211031405","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43885817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the relationship between visitor satisfaction and expenditure in wineries has been investigated in previous literature, we have unearthed potential intricacies that emerge when this relationship is analyzed within the reference dependence framework of prospect theory. To fill this gap, we use segment-based reference points to capture the singularity of winery visitors, and results show that demographics and psychographics confirm reference dependence. When reference points are based on psychographics, loss aversion is confirmed (lowering visitor satisfaction has a greater negative impact on expenditure than the positive impact derived from increasing visitor satisfaction), while diminishing sensitivity is observed for losses (the effect of the variations in visitor satisfaction shifts depending on the distance from the individual’s reference point). Interestingly, when the reference points are obtained through demographics, loss aversion is reversed. Relevant managerial implications are outlined.","PeriodicalId":51409,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":4.2,"publicationDate":"2021-07-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1177/10963480211031407","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46498158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
