This is followed by the description of the psychological profile of abusing fathers and how the traumatic experience severly shatters the sense of identity in the victims. Some clinical examples illustrate the role of negative hallucination, basic violence and the phenomenon of the double. {"title":"[Symbolic process in intellectual activities of so-called psychotic adolescents].","authors":"P Artis","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>Based on his experience as psychopedagogue in a special education facility for adolescents with psychopathological disturbances, the author develops the idea that the learning difficulties cannot be reduced to intellectual deficits due to constitutional causes or traumatic experiences. The observation and analysis of the difficulties suggest that symbolization processes are deeply involved. This research is based on the assumption that symbolization processes of so-called psychotic adolescents can be assessed through various psychological techniques: the Borel-Maisonny language test, tests derived from those of Meljac on the knowledge and spontaneous use of numbers, and the EDEI (Differential scales of intellectual efficiency) by Perron-Borelli. Symbolization is defined in reference to theoretical approaches along three differentiated modes: the long option, the confused option and the short option. First initiated by H. Atlan (1979) and A. Bourguignon (1981), this approach could lead to a fruitful understanding of autistic disturbances, both consistent with developmental neurobiology and psychodynamics. This approach integrates clinical, paraclinical, follow-up and experimental data related to these disturbances. Based on empirical data and on various techniques devised by the author, points of convergence with other theories and other observations are described. Spontaneous gestures and essential expressions of the true (nuclear) self suggest that initiative, as an organizer of motricity, and self experience play a central role in the construction of the psyche. These elements would represent a first level of organization. The role of environment is considered as facilitating or inhibiting this development. The reasons of these attitudes are to be found in the fantasy world of the mother and in her preconscious attitudes. Among maternal functions, the author emphasizes mirror function in the enlarged sense he suggests. Simultaneously initiative, development of active will can be observed in the fights and confronting behaviors which aim at supporting initiative. Environmental efforts to suppress these behaviors lead to submission. The latter develops into two types of pathology: 1) reaction pathology with formation of a \"false self\" and 2) over-adaptation pathology with predominant psychosomatic disturbances. {"title":"[Passage into paternity: a clinical approach].","authors":"D Naziri,&nbsp;T Dragonas","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>In this paper the authors discuss the problematics of the phenomenon of going into fatherhood within a transient Society, Greece, that was framed in the course of a clinical research. The main goal of this study was to describe the social psychological dynamics and long term dimension of the phenomenon through analysis of interviews with young men becoming fathers for the first time in their lives. The theoretical framework and the social psychological context of the research are presented, together with the analyses of two accounts by fathers interviewed each three times, before and after their child's birth. This clinical material serves as an illustration of the psychodynamic processes of going into fatherhood and points to two dimensions: one is intrapersonal (essentially marked by identifications to parental images) and the other interpersonal (essentially marked by the relationships with the partner). Analysis of the subjects' affects and representations shows that resolution of conscient and unconscious conflicts which takes place during the going into fatherhood are dependent on the process of disengagement from the family of origin and on the ability of both partners to construct a conjugal space. The former victim, whose identifications with the aggressor are actuated, discharges his guilt by projective identifications with the new victims. We have reason to believe that some of the severe ego disturbances and cognitive deficits commonly found among blind children have their origins in the first eighteen months of life during the critical period of ego formation. As our research has progressed we have been able to translate these findings into a program of education and guidance for the blind infant which may be of interest to other professionals working with the blind. In early adolescence there is an increase in frequency of depressive feelings, specially in girls. Clinical depression also differs according to sex: boys seem to present more severe depressions and at a younger age, more frequently associated with behavior problems and have a worse prognosis. That question is addressed throughout this article through a historic-critical review and leads to formulating two tentative responses. In the first part are shortly presented the contributions which have brought precisions, supported and prolonged the leader's propositions. In the second part we attempt to partially reconceptualize the process and behavior of attachment, following the recent suggestions of Bowlby and Ainsworth.
