The diversity of the topic dictates the need to search for new developments of the course in order to achieve better results in acquiring a professionally oriented foreign language. The study of the Renaissance heritage takes place within the framework of a methodically sound and logically structured course, which includes particular language tools. These are the creation of a period’s “mental map”; studying videos; reading, analyzing and critically comprehending various texts’ types; translating, abstracting and summarizing articles; conducting a formal and historical analysis of the masterpieces of the studied era; discussing the global heritage of the Renaissance in the round table sessions. The combination of traditional methods of studying a foreign language and creative innovations in the development of the Renaissance theme makes the course interesting and productive. Employing the toolkit aimed at studying Renaissance in a foreign language tends to create favorable conditions that motivate students to obtain both a professionally oriented language and in-depth knowledge of art history enabling universities to train experts who will be able to respond to the challenges of the time.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. The research included two types of experiments – stating and teaching. The first of them was designed to determine the current level of students’ acquisition of foreignlanguage professional content in the course of prepared and unprepared actualization, as well as to identify the negative trends impeding the full mastery of the language material. The results of the stating experiment predestined the structure of training aimed at optimizing independent work – achievement of high assimilation results while minimizing students’ time and effort. In this regard, the teaching experiment was based on two components. The first one included teaching students the system of mnemic action operations, forming the psychological mechanism of speech comprehension and memorization and creating the optimal effect of reproducibility of cognitive activity. The second component was to stimulate critical rethinking of the speech content and generate its reasonable reconstruction. The analysis of the teaching experiment results and their comparison with stating experiment indicators proved at the level of statistical significance the positive influence of the offered techniques on shaping the culture of students’ independent work.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. The authors demonstrated and empirically substantiated sociocultural differences in empathic response, as well as emotional sensitivity to social phenomena and aesthetic standards as signs for the formation of social experiences in adolescence. Russian young men and women demonstrate a higher level of empathic response (the difference values according to the Mann–Whitney U test are statistically significant), while Chinese students are characterized by a pronounced emotional involvement and a differentiated emotional assessment of socio-psychological phenomena (the difference values according to the Pearson chi-squared test are statistically significant). It is stated that relevant categories connected with self-image and understandings of sociopsychological phenomena become the emotional personality representations of Russian and Chinese student youth. That is most clearly expressed in emotionally sensitive periods of social upheavals, crises, and pandemics.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. It is known that the development of intellect is the main purpose of education at all stages of schooling, however, perception is also actively developed at primary school age. Therefore, we decided to conduct a formative lesson-experiment aimed at developing the visual and auditory perception of elementary school students. Since the program of the formative experiment included mobile and didactic games, we chose physical education lessons to implement our plan. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that, using the natural need for movement, it is possible to develop the modalities of perception of younger students in the conditions of educational activity, without tearing them away from the educational process. The article presents a correlation between intelligence and the auditory and visual perception of younger students. We found that by developing the modalities of a child’s perception through a combination of outdoor and didactic games, it is possible to influence the overall level of mental development of younger students. Therefore, we came to the conclusion that it is important to develop the above modalities of perception at that particular stage of schooling","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. Differences in rates between boys and girls are analysed. Experimental tests «Bitter candy» were implemented according to the model of A.N. Leontiev and «Marshmallows experiment» according to the model of W. Mishel. Significant positive connections were found between confidence in the need to comply with moral norms and the level of maturity of certain neurostructures: orientation; adequacy; criticality; holding and playing the program; evaluation and reproduction of rhythmic structures; reencryption of the perceived image. Significant correlations were found between compliance with the norms in the real experimental situation (“Bitter candy” test) and the criticality indicator. The indicators of regulation of behavior in a situation of group compliance with the rule set by adults turned out to be significantly related to the level of awareness of the need to comply with conventional norms and the level of differentiation between conventional and moral norms. In addition, a mature, relative to age, lateralization became a neuropsychological predictor of high indicators of differentiation of moral and conventional norms. Analysis of the features of the studied indicators in boys and girls revealed significant differences in the maturity of the brain zones (neuropsychological indicators) and in the level of compliance with the externally specified rule, as well as in the level of self-control in preschool age. In terms of differences in the level of moral development, the hypothesis was not confirmed","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. According to various data, about 3% of preschool children have developmental disorders of the delay type. In addition, it is difficult to establish the number of children with cognitive developmental features who do not have an established diagnosis. Such children enter the system of general education, including preschool, where they face the need to learn English. Some experts insist that due to the specifics of mental development, the study of foreign languages should be postponed until the time of normalization of higher mental functions. However, as demonstrated in the article, the study of a foreign language already at the senior preschool age can be quite successful. And not just to form a child’s skills in a new language, but also to say favorably on the development of cognitive skills in general. The paper shows that despite the low level of readiness to learn English, subject to certain rules and recommendations, taking into account the specifics of the structure of the mental retardation defect, creating special educational conditions, children with mental retardation can successfully learn English. It also presents the program for teaching English speaking skills (elementary skills of monologue and dialogic speech) for children of senior preschool age with developmental delay. The program was implemented by the group of children attending kindergarten; the results of the implementation are also presented in the article. The results were obtained that children of senior preschool age with mental retardation are able to successfully master elementary speaking skills (elementary skills of monologue and dialogical speech) in English with a special organization of the educational process within the framework of the preschool educational institution.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. A large number of materials are available to both teacher and student: scientific and op-ed articles, interactive online materials, news resources and, finally, various types of video materials (short videos, educational, entertainment, full-length feature films). The use of feature films in a non-linguistic university, in our opinion, is a promising area of work that solves several tasks: increasing motivation, developing linguistic, socio-cultural and linguistic-cultural competencies, improving various mental functions (memory, attention), stimulating productive types of oral and written speech. The author of the article examines various aspects of the use of films in the university classroom: the advantages and disadvantages of this method, the principles of selecting a film for viewing, the question of the appropriateness of subtitles. In the article, on the example of the film “An Extraordinary Story for Christmas” (“The Man who invented Christmas”), filmed in 2017, which describes the period of Charles Dickens’ biography while creating his famous work “The Christmas Carol”, some types of pre-viewing, viewing and afterviewing exercises are displayed.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. The article defines the concepts of “linguistic personality”, “discourse”, “diplomatic discourse” and “public diplomacy”. The differences between didactic and empirical methods are described; the need to use both groups of methods is proved. The analysis of public diplomatic discourse as a method of student’s linguistic personality formation at the Faculty of Advertising and Public Relations is placed at the junction of these two groups of methods. A separate section is devoted to three levels of argumentation: emotional, cognitive, pragmatic. The speaker chooses all or each of them in accordance with the peculiarities of the audience’s perception of information. Depending on the speaker’s mastery of all three levels of argumentation, one can judge the degree of development of his linguistic personality. The paper provides the most striking examples of a combination of three levels of argumentation and the main speech strategies of diplomatic communication taken from the speeches of political and diplomatic leaders of Russia, the United States and Great Britain. In conclusion, it is recommended to include the analysis of public diplomatic discourse in the English course for specific purposes as a method of student’s linguistic personality formation at the Faculty of Advertising and Public Relations.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ. To study the perceptual layer of the image of the world, a modified version of the Ch. Osgood semantic differential was used for the semantic layer – the test of existential motivations by A. Langle, for the nuclear layer – the technology “Meaning in life depth” by P. Ebersol. To study life changes (semantic and nuclear layer of the image of the world) – a questionnaire of post-traumatic growth of R. Tadeschi and L. Calhoun. Statistical processing included frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, content analysis, one-factor analysis of variance. Results. The experience of loss affects all three levels of the image of the world: 1) people who have experienced the loss of a loved one more often describe the world as heavy, large, active, chaotic, rough, complex, tense, tough, expensive, fast, open; at the same time, the object of loss affects the ideas about the world; 2) the reason for the loss is reflected in the characteristics of the “fundamental value”: those who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to suicide feel less connected with other people and the possibility of contact with them, compared with those who have lost a loved one for other reasons; 3) most respondents are characterized by a loss of the meaning of life or a belief in its absence; while some find the meaning of life in interpersonal relationships, getting pleasure and personal growth.","PeriodicalId":496950,"journal":{"name":"Вестник РГГУ.
