A distributed lag nonlinear modelling was used to determine the counts of hospital admissions due to chronic and acute coronary syndromes. Data for the 3 largest urban agglomerations in Poland between 2012 and 2017 were collected.Results: There were 88 467 admissions due to chronic coronary syndromes and 35 403 admissions due to acute coronary syndromes. After accounting adjusting for meteorological variables, the risk of admission due to chronic coronary syndromes increased after the exposure to particulate matter (PM) of aerodynamic diameter no greater than 10 µm (PM10) (cumulative rate ratio per 10 µg/m3, 1.007 [95%CI: 1.002-1.012]), of diameter no greater than 2.5 mm (PM2.5) (1.008 [1.001-1.014]), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) (1.037 [1.026-1.047]). The research focuses on the use of NIRS to predict the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and neurological outcomes.Objectives: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the validity of using regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) measurement compared to ETCO2 during CPR to and its association with ROSC, as well as to evaluate the neuroprognostic value of NIRS.Patients and methods: The study was carried out from January 11, 2023, to January 31, 2024, at the University Hospital, Krakow, Poland. The study group included 104 patients who had in-hospital cardiac arrest. The values of rSO₂ and ETCO₂ were monitored during CPR and for 24 hours after ROSC.Results: The group of patients who achieved spontaneous circulation during CPR (ROSC group) had significantly higher rSO2 values compared to the non-ROSC group throughout the resuscitation period (63.8% vs 35.6%; P<0.001). Cerebral oximetry demonstrated higher predictive efficacy than ETCO2 as an indicator of ROSC (AUC 0.978 vs 0.815) (P<0.001). The mean rSO2 value ≥66% during CPR was associated with a higher chance of survival within 30 days (AUC 0.992, 95% CI: 0.980-1.000).Conclusions: The rSO2 value is a more sensitive indicator of ROSC compared to ETCO2. Higher rSO2 values are associated with a higher probability of achieving ROSC. This study examines factors related to ICU/CICU admissions among Polish RA patients from 2011 to 2021.Objectives: The study aims to analyze trends in ICU/CICU admissions, identify key factors influencing outcomes, and assess the impact of comorbidities on RA patient ICU/CICU mortality in critical care settings.Patients and methods: This retrospective population-based study utilized data from the Polish national hospital morbidity registry. Inclusion criteria included ICU/CICU admission and an ICD-10 code for RA. A total of 3,066 hospitalization records were analyzed, focusing on demographics, length of stay, primary diagnosis, and ICU/CICU mortality rates. Logistic regression was used to evaluate predictors of ICU/CICU mortality.Results: The study revealed a rising trend in ICU/CICU admissions, with a significant increase in 2021, potentially due to the Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. The overall ICU/CICU mortality rate was 39.1%, with the highest values observed in patients with gastrointestinal (58.5%) and endocrine/metabolic diseases (61.5%). Urgent admissions and older age were significant predictors of ICU/CICU mortality (P < 0.001), while gender was not a significant factor.Conclusions: The findings emphasize the need for early intervention and comprehensive management strategies to mitigate severe RA complications.
