It therefore poses a huge challenge to accurately predict emergency traffic volumes. This paper aims to provide a practical methodology for predicting traffic volumes during emergencies, which was built using the Prophet model and improving the event function of the model. The proposed approach isolates the event impacts through time series decomposition techniques, and allows the model to add points in time when traffic flow changes abruptly and to incorporate external factors useful to adapt to the specific background imposed by the emergency. The main data used in the paper was the daily traffic volume dataset published on the Luxembourg Data Open Platform. These data were collected over a span from January 2017 to December 2021. The dataset covers the period of impact of the two emergencies. The proposed method and four comparative models were applied to the second emergency period. The results show that the proposed method can accurately predict unconventional changes caused by emergencies and has better prediction accuracy with real data than the other comparative models under the same attribute conditions through a comparative analysis.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135917923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A combined ordered weighted average operator was used to assign weights to each index. On this basis, a GD evaluation model for prefabricated buildings was established by combining normal cloud theory and matter-element theory. The application effect was analysed using the dual-case method. The results indicated that for a steel-frame-supported prefabricated structure, the GDs of energy resource indicators and environmental protection indicators were both in level 2. The GD of construction management indicators, technological innovation indicators and social coordination indicators was in 3. The overall trend was from level 2 to level 3. For prefabricated concrete structures, all indicators had a GD of level 2. In contrast, frame-supported prefabricated structures had more development advantages and had important practical significance in guiding the transformation of the construction industry and the development of new urbanisation. The GD evaluation model could obtain comprehensive evaluation results under different assembly structures, providing assistance for the green development of the construction industry.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135804556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the device is accepted for use as part of compliance testing it is essential that the results produced are reliable. This paper summarises the results of two UK-wide correlation trials carried out in 2021 and 2022. Machines and operators from 42 organisations attended the trials, where the performance of 175 LWD devices was assessed against the larger Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). This paper provides some background to the use of LWDs and the design of the trial, including the collection and analysis of data. The relationship between the LWD and the FWD, including data variability and the influence of different testing regimes was examined. The main findings of the trials are summarised and recommendations are made to maintain the precision of LWD devices.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135094508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is urgent to strengthen cost control throughout the entire process of engineering projects to achieve profit goals. To reduce the cost of the projects, the study proposes a cost control strategy based on BIM. Firstly, the risk identification algorithm of engineering projects is proposed based on BIM, then the cost control model is constructed based on the risk identification results, and the genetic algorithm is added to the model to improve its performance, and finally the simulation experiment is designed to verify the effectiveness of the method, and the results show that the identification accuracy of the risk identification algorithm proposed by the study reaches 99.7%, and the C-C method based on BIM can significantly reduce the cost expenditure of engineering projects. The evaluation method proposed in this study evaluated the effectiveness, scientificity, feasibility, and generalizability of the C-C method by more than 90 points. The above results show that the application of BIM can effectively realize the cost control of engineering projects, which is of great significance to the smooth development of engineering construction.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135830376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, traditional urban lighting uses time interval control and cannot be intelligently controlled according to the environment. Therefore, an intelligent urban street lighting control system based on advanced fuzzy control technology is developed. The system uses a fuzzy control algorithm based on ZigBee technology to study the street lighting system. The fuzzy control system determines input and output variables and obtains demand instructions for intelligent control of street lights through fuzzy operation. The number of node visits and node degree is optimized to complete the construction of the street lamp intelligent control system. Experimental simulations showed that the proposed scheme can reasonably control the brightness of the street lighting according to the ambient light. At 5:00 p.m., the proposed scheme adjusts the street lighting to 80W. The system is illuminated at rated power and the current power consumption is 100W. A test was carried out under a street lighting system, and the proposed scheme dynamically adjusted the lighting brightness reasonably considering various factors such as light intensity, noise intensity and vehicle speed. The proposed street lamp fuzzy control algorithm has good control performance and significantly reduces the system energy consumption. The research has important reference value for energy saving and intelligent control of urban lighting.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135388644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Road geometric data is one of the primary requirements for safety analysis and improvement projects. This paper presents a systematic literature review to identify existing methodologies for road geometric data extraction. Methodologies based on GPS, GIS maps, AutoCAD digital maps, satellite imagery, IMU, LiDAR, and vision technology were found employing manual, semi-automatic, and automatic algorithms for extraction of horizontal alignment features of roads. A multi criteria analysis in terms of device/software cost, data treatment cost, and time acquisition was performed for the methodologies using an expert survey. Survey responses were analysed to rank the methodologies for minimum cost and time using Analytical Hierarchal Process (AHP). GPS and GIS maps-based methodologies were the most economical, while the LiDAR-based methodology was the most uneconomical. Overall, the findings provide valuable insights into components of existing methodologies. The findings would benefit practitioners, policymakers, enforcement authorities, vehicle manufacturers, and researchers in choosing an appropriate methodology judiciously. An inventory of road geometric data could also be established to develop an intelligent transportation system (ITS) by combining vehicle, road, and driver in effective communication through information technologies.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134911074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Choosing the right type of milling for point blades can improve train running performance. Based on wheel–rail system dynamics, a vehicle–points dynamic model with various milling methods was established, from which a selection and evaluation method for milling was proposed. The service performance of four milling types was compared and combined with point blade robustness to provide a comprehensive evaluation. It was found that a small rate of railhead width change for an oblique tangent point blade resulted in better running performance of trains. The oblique secant point blade caused an abrupt change in the rail layout, which reduced train running steadiness. The railhead widths of longitudinal secant and longitudinal secant–oblique tangent point blades increased quickly, and the corresponding dynamic responses were at an intermediate level. The proposed selection and evaluation method for milling types took into account the dynamic characteristics and structural durability of the points. It will be beneficial in selecting an appropriate milling type for points blades according to their service requirements.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86361183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bituminous mixes containing both fillers at different proportions were designed, and their performance was studied using Marshall quotient, indirect tensile strength, tensile strength ratio (TSR), passive and active adhesion, and cantabro tests. The cost of various mixes and their greenhouse gas (GHG) emission was also compared. Finally, the optimum filler content for both mixes was determined. Mixes containing CD displayed rutting, cracking, and ravelling resistance similar to conventional mixes. CD offered improved affinity towards bitumen and ensured excellent moisture resistance (TSR > 80%). The use of CD marginally lowered the cost by around 3-8%, and reduced the GHG emissions by more than 50% as compared to the traditional mix (4% HL). Overall, the application of CD ensures satisfactory engineering performance at a relatively lower cost and GHG emissions.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"351 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78088774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address these issues, this paper describes a proposed battery swap network comprising battery-swapping-van service points and battery-swap stations to provide local, fast and cost-effective battery-swapping services. A data-driven approach was developed to analyse and model vehicle trajectory data to obtain realistic battery-swap demand distributions. An optimisation model based on location cover was then developed to minimise the cost of a battery-swapping network using a greedy algorithm. Real traffic network driving distance was adopted to improve authenticity and accuracy. In a case study, a battery-swapping network used a one-week trajectory dataset of taxis in Beijing and tested the effects in eight scenarios. The results showed that the mesh size of service points, service radius and coverage rate all had an impact on service quality and cost. It is concluded that a battery-swapping network could be cost-effectively deployed by adjusting these parameters to suit the needs of electric vehicles at different development stages. This paper provides useful a reference for decision-makers and operators to formulate policies and strategies.","PeriodicalId":49670,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers-Transport","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87618577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
