Individuals with low incomes are especially vulnerable to rising living costs.Objective: This study examines changes in subjective income adequacy among older adults during the 2022/2023 inflation period and identifies key risk factors for perceived financial deterioration.Methods: Data were obtained from a representative telephone survey of 841 adults aged 60+ years in Austria conducted between January and February 2023. Changes in income adequacy were assessed by comparing respondents' financial situation before and after the onset of high inflation. Hierarchical logistic regression models were applied to identify relevant factors.Results: Overall, 42% of respondents reported a worsening of their financial situation. Individuals with a net monthly income below € 1200 had significantly higher odds of reporting deterioration. Older adults under 65 and those experiencing psychological stress were more likely to perceive financial decline. No significant effects were found for physical health, partnership status, having children, gender, or education.Discussion: The findings highlight the heterogeneity within the older population and show that financially and psychologically vulnerable groups are particularly affected. Among people with a Turkish migration background, care is particularly often provided by family members. Although self-help groups offer valuable support, they are rarely utilized.Objective: Identification of strategies, barriers and support needs to enhance participation in self-help groups among family caregivers with a migration background.Methods: A total of 1029 providers of self-help groups were invited to participate in an online survey addressing structural characteristics, strategies to promote participation, perceived barriers and support needs. Closed questions were analyzed descriptively, while open-ended responses were examined using qualitative content analysis.Results: Data from 176 providers were available for the analysis and 44.9% reported actively involving family caregivers with a migration background. Frequent strategies included direct outreach through disseminators and cooperation with migrant organizations. Key barriers compromised language barriers (62.5%), lack of awareness of available services (56.8%) and cultural differences (48.9%). As such, it is mostly studied in critical situations and clinical contexts, although anticipatory and repeated communication in close relationships may come with unique benefits.Objective: We aimed at providing a better understanding of the frequency of anticipatory communication about housing, care, and end of life in romantic partnerships and its immediate behavioral, cognitive, and affective benefits.Material and methods: In this study, 118 individuals, among them 55 couples, aged 63 years on average were surveyed on their anticipatory communication, preparatory behavior, feelings of preparedness, and topic-specific anxiety via questionnaires. For analyses, we applied multilevel modeling.Results: Anticipatory communication happened rarely but was associated with behavioral, cognitive, and affective benefits. More frequent communication about housing was most strongly associated with preparatory behavior. More frequent communication about the end of life was most strongly associated with feelings of preparedness and reduced anxiety.Conclusion: The context of the romantic relationship is particularly promising for anticipatory communication. Addiction and violence are often closely linked. Preventive and health-promoting approaches offer potential for effectively addressing both problems.Objective: The aim of the \"Prävention Kreativ!\" (Creative prevention!) project was to promote the health of older people in residential care facilities using an innovative approach to addiction and violence prevention. To this end, complementary socio-artistic and mentally oriented group activities were developed, tested and their effectiveness examined.Methods: The article presents the results of the accompanying evaluation in four nursing homes. The study is based on a mixed methods design with participant observation, (partially) standardized surveys, interviews and focus groups.Results: The results show positive effects in several prevention-related dimensions, most pronounced in the dimensions of well-being and group feeling/togetherness, followed by the dimensions of mental activity and physical activity. The programs developed promote resilience as an overarching goal of addiction and violence prevention.Conclusion: It is evident that mentally oriented and socio-artistic programs have complementary effects and together strengthen protective factors against addiction and violence.
