This article explores the possibility of differentiating between patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and patients with other kinds of dementia by focusing on false alarms (FAs) on a picture recognition task (PRT). In Study 1, we compared AD and non-AD patients on the PRT and found that FAs discriminate well between these groups. Study 2 served to improve the discriminatory power of the FA score on the picture recognition task by adding associated pairs. Here, too, the FA score differentiated well between AD and non-AD patients, though the discriminatory power did not improve. The findings suggest that AD patients show a liberal response bias. Taken together, these studies suggest that FAs in picture recognition are of major importance for the clinical diagnosis of AD.","PeriodicalId":49343,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift Fur Neuropsychologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45981943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Germany, 7.5 Million individuals between 18 and 64 years are considered to be functionally illiterate (Grotlüschen & Riekmann, 2012). Functional illiterates have only rudimentary literacy skills despite attending school for several years. Although they can use written language to a very limited extent, only few functional illiterates attend literacy courses for adults. In addition, most adult literacy courses primarily aim at promoting basic reading and writing skills. Offers specific to workplace literacy are scarce. This review gives an overview of the definition of functional illiteracy. Afterwards, a specific literacy program (AlphaPlus) and its effectiveness will be presented. The reviewed studies indicate that learning to read in adulthood is associated with structural and functional brain changes.","PeriodicalId":49343,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift Fur Neuropsychologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44335070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Allein in Deutschland verfügen etwa 7.5 Millionen Erwachsene nicht über ausreichende Lese- und Schreibkompetenzen, um in angemessener Weise am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilhaben zu können. Sie können maximal kurze, einfache Texte sinnentnehmend lesen. Diese Personen werden häufig als funktionale Analphabetinnen und Analphabeten bezeichnet. Die Arbeit gibt einen Überblick zu Größenordnung, Ursachen und Interventionsmöglichkeiten bei funktionalem Analphabetismus. Es wird ein biopsychosoziales Ursachenmodell vorgestellt, das biologische Vulnerabilitätsfaktoren postuliert, die unter ungünstigen psychosozialen Bedingungen zu einer erhöhten Wahrscheinlichkeit für die Entwicklung von Lese- und Schreibproblemen führen. Weiterhin wird auf Unterschiede zwischen und Gemeinsamkeiten von funktionalem Analphabetismus und Lese-Rechtschreib-Störung (LRS) eingegangen. Abschließend werden aktuelle Entwicklungen von Trainingsprogrammen zur Förderung der Lese- und Rechtschreibfähigkeiten von Erwachsenen, häufig im Kontext von Grundbildungsprogrammen, beschrieben.","PeriodicalId":49343,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift Fur Neuropsychologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46083655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article discusses the emergence of a functional literacy construct and the rediscovery of illiteracy in industrialized countries during the second half of the 20th century. It offers a short explanation of how the construct evolved over time. In addition, it explores how functional (il)literacy is conceived differently by research discourses of cognitive and neural studies, on the one hand, and by prescriptive and normative international policy documents and adult education, on the other hand. Furthermore, it analyses how literacy skills surveys such as the Level One Study (leo.) or the PIAAC may help to bridge the gap between cognitive and more practical and educational approaches to literacy, the goal being to place the functional illiteracy (FI) construct within its existing scale levels. It also sheds more light on the way in which FI can be perceived in terms of different cognitive processes and underlying components of reading. By building on the previous work of other authors and previous definitions, the article brings together different views of FI and offers a perspective for a needed operational definition of the concept, which would be an appropriate reference point for future educational, political, and scientific utilization.","PeriodicalId":49343,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift Fur Neuropsychologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42307264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vorgestellt wird die mobile Anwendung RehaGoal App für Menschen mit erworbenen und angeborenen Hirnschädigungen, die Schwierigkeiten bei komplexen Planungsaufgaben haben. Für die Entwicklung der RehaGoal App wurde sich am Vorgehen des Goal Management Trainings orientiert, bei dem die Zerlegung eines übergeordneten Ziels in Teilziele und überschaubare Schritte zu deren Erreichung im Vordergrund steht. Bisher wurde dieses Vorgehen papiergestützt eingesetzt, was die Übertragung in den Alltag erschwert. Daher wurde die RehaGoal App, die auf verschiedenen digitalen Endgeräten wie Smartphones, Smartwatches etc. genutzt werden kann, entwickelt. Bei unserer Zielgruppe liegen häufig zusätzliche Einschränkungen vor, daher verfügt die RehaGoal App über eine barrierearme Gestaltung, eine Sprachausgabe, visuelle Darstellungsmöglichkeiten, eine nutzerabhängige Darstellung, eine einfache Menüführung und ein Autorensystem.","PeriodicalId":49343,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift Fur Neuropsychologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44452164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"心理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
