Two samples of public safety professionals were included in the study to assess training effectiveness and whether individual and work-related characteristics account for differences in training outcomes. Sample 1 consisted of support service providers who interact with high-risk youth (n = 173) and Sample 2 consisted of law enforcement personnel (n = 102). Effectiveness was assessed through improvements in self-reported measures of confidence, preparedness, and help-seeking intentions collected at three time points – prior to, immediately after, and 90-days after training completion. One-way, repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) estimated change in each construct across time and tested whether individual and work-related covariates interacted with time. Across both samples, the magnitude of change was the largest immediately following the training, although meaningful improvements in confidence and preparedness to utilize help-seeking skills were retained at the 90-day follow-up, suggesting minimal training decay. Three covariates interacted with time – prior mental health training, mental health interactions with youth, and years worked with youth. These findings add to the growing body of research on YMHFA and provide evidence that it can be a beneficial training program for public safety professionals who work with high-risk youth.

","PeriodicalId":48428,"journal":{"name":"Children and Youth Services Review","volume":"178 ","pages":"Article 108546"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2025-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144893794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article analyzes the evolution of national initiatives to care for and protect OVC. Four factors have shaped the evolution of the OVC care system: the restoration of political stability from the early 1990s; the emergence of pressing OVC issues, especially illicit intercountry adoption and orphanage tourism; calls from international agencies to prioritize child protection; and the gradual embrace of the issue by parts of the Cambodian state. Cambodia now has a robust set of OVC care policies on the books. However, priority and implementation require strengthening. Low government priority is due especially to weak demand from civil society and competing items on the government agenda. Weak implementation is due particularly to poor coordination among government agencies and lack of capacity at sub-national levels. Proponents for OVC care in Cambodia will need to address three challenges to strengthen priority for and governance of OVC care. First, the coalition of actors concerned with OVC care in Cambodia needs to push to expand priority well beyond the ministry where such priority is concentrated. Second, international agencies should calibrate support for the issue, ensuring that as they continue to promote child protection initiatives, they do not disincentivize state action. Third, OVC care proponents need to press the state to develop policy and capacity to address underlying drivers of child risk, such as poverty, migration and drug and alcohol abuse.

","PeriodicalId":48428,"journal":{"name":"Children and Youth Services Review","volume":"178 ","pages":"Article 108538"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2025-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144903784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on a qualitative study from Austria, which focused on social networks and family relationships of 18-to 27-year-old care-experienced youth. While biological mothers and fathers do not play a central role in the relationship network of the interviewees, they can provide a sense of social belonging and take on important support functions due to scarce social resources in the process of leaving care. The results illustrate how the tension between socially established normative images of mothers and fathers and diverging family-related experiences influences relationships with fathers and mothers. This qualitative descriptive study is part of a large formative evaluation of the Home Visiting for Homeless Families project, which aims to remove barriers to delivering home visiting services to families experiencing homelessness and make home visiting more responsive to those families’ needs. We interviewed 17 home visitors, 12 home visitor supervisors, and 14 mothers who received home visiting services. Although home visitors did modify some aspects of service delivery, they did not take full advantage of the project’s flexibilities and continued to face challenges in supporting families experiencing homelessness. Home visitors found it difficult to focus on doing the job they were trained to do when families were struggling to meet their basic needs and expressed a desire for training that would equip them to help families with their housing. Mothers deeply appreciated the emotional, informational, and instrumental support their home visitors provided, as well as the ways their home visitors helped them become better parents. Our findings suggest that to fully benefit from home visiting services, families with young children need stable housing and coordinated care.

","PeriodicalId":48428,"journal":{"name":"Children and Youth Services Review","volume":"178 ","pages":"Article 108543"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2025-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144893793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method in this research used a quantitative approach with a correlational design through a survey method. A sample of 715 higher secondary students, comprising 66 % girls and 34 % boys from Kerala, India, completed the family relationship questionnaire and students’ subjective well-being measure. The analysis used was Spearman’s Correlation and Multiple Regression. Based on the analysis results, it was found that the three dimensions of family relationship are positively correlated with a sig value of < .01. Thus, Ha1 was accepted. Multiple regression results revealed that family coherence (p < .001) emerged as the most significant predictor of student subjective well-being among three dimensions of family relationship measures. Family expressiveness (p < .01) is the second most influential element on students’ school well-being. Meanwhile, the result shows that there is no conclusive evidence that family conflict has predictive significance. Thus, Ha 2 was accepted except family conflict dimension. It may be inferred that all aspects of family relationship are positively related to student well-being. However, only family coherence and expressiveness have a substantial impact on the well-being of Indian higher secondary students, but family conflict does not.

","PeriodicalId":48428,"journal":{"name":"Children and Youth Services Review","volume":"178 ","pages":"Article 108540"},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2025-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144889741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge in mental health needs among adolescents, with leading pediatric health teams declaring a national emergency in adolescent mental health. Schools have become a primary access point for mental health services to cover the gap between need and service utilization that has long existed, particularly among vulnerable populations. This study aimed to explore student utilization of school-based mental health services from the perspective of school social workers. Primary data collected from focus groups with school social workers conducted in October 2022. The sample included school social workers in Virginia working in middle and/or high schools (N = 16). Braun and Clarke’s six steps were used to conduct thematic analysis. The primary themes were: a) awareness/understanding of the role of school social workers among school staff and administration, as well as students and families, b) mental health stigma, c) challenges in coordination of services, and c) perceived mental health needs among adolescent students. The current study reveals important information regarding barriers to school-based mental health service utilization from the perspective of school social workers. This study set out to examine whether multi-agency case review meetings change the perceptions of members in response to series of child abuse vignettes. The study involved twelve participants from law enforcement, child protection, health, and education agencies who regularly responded to child abuse in their jurisdiction. The study replicated ‘Strategy Meetings’, a multi-agency meeting that occurs in Western Australia at the start of a child abuse case. The study involved a novel pre-post design, with follow-up interviews. Participants were asked to read a child abuse vignette and assess the case, participate in a 15-minute case deliberation, then complete the same individual assessment with a total of 52 pre-post assessments completed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine participants a week following their session. The study found that participants generally did not change their perceptions of the case as a result of the deliberation sessions (Current Risk Scale Z = 0.173, p = 0.863, Future Risk Scale Z = 0.293, p = 0.769, & Response Scale Z = −0.161, p = 0.872). However, the impact of different combinations of parenting styles on adolescents’ SI and SA and their potential roles in explaining gender differences in SI/SA remains to be studied. This study aims to address these questions. A total of 6,461 Chinese adolescents (M age = 14.88, SD age = 0.86; 54.4 % males) were recruited to complete self-report measures, regarding perceived parenting style, SI, SA, and other demographic information. Latent profile analysis and the manual Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars method were used to test the hypotheses. Four parenting profiles (i.e., supportive parenting, highly engaged parenting, disengaged parenting, and harsh parenting) were identified. Adolescents in harsh parenting and disengaged parenting showed high suicide risk, whereas supportive parenting and highly engaged parenting showed low suicide risk. Girls across all profiles exhibited elevated levels of SI than boys, with only girls exposed to harsh parenting exhibiting higher levels of SA than boys within the same profile. The gender differences in SI significantly expanded in the harsh parenting profile. Findings revealed the different effects of parenting profiles on adolescents’ SI and SA and further indicated that these profiles moderated the gender differences in SI/SA.
