The adapted importance–performance analysis framework charted multidimensional positive and negative tourism impact as perceived by local residents. Result of structural equation modeling revealed that ecological preservation, community benefits, and cultural enrichment enhanced residents' positive word-of-mouth (WOM) and support intentions. Place attachment partially moderated the relationship among the perceived performance of medical tourism impact, positive WOM, and support intention. These integrative analytical techniques identified nuances within the host perspectives, thereby advancing the understanding of medical tourism's localized influences. Lastly, this study emphasizes tailoring policy to intrinsic resident motivations and heterogeneous viewpoints for sustainable medical tourism development.

","PeriodicalId":48141,"journal":{"name":"Tourism Management Perspectives","volume":"54 ","pages":"Article 101305"},"PeriodicalIF":7.3,"publicationDate":"2024-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142168158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has limited theoretical development because categorizing positive experiences may not cover all memorable experiences. This study asked travelers for their most memorable negative food travel experience. Notably, about 30% stated they never had a negative MFTE. Factors contributing to a negative MFTE were: food/drink quality; sanitation/food safety; cultural differences; dietary/menu restrictions; service attributes; price/perceived value; and destination's lack of food or restaurant availability. These factors differ from positive MFTE. Negative MFTE focused more on food and service than other attributes (e.g. social, touristic) found with positive MFTE. Some factors (e.g. food, service) contribute to both positive and negative MFTE, while others (e.g. sanitation) only to negative MFTE. Based on 39 in-depth interviews with mid-level female managers from academia, government, and industry, this study aims to propose a conceptual framework regarding women's underrepresentation in tourism and hospitality management positions in China. Findings based on a gendered nei-wai ideology revealed factors inhibiting mid-level female leaders' promotion to senior positions across social, organisational, familial, and personal dimensions. Besides being passively rejected from further promotion, mid-level female leaders might subjectively cease promotion to conform to family and social expectations. In the context of an abalone festival in Japan, a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with key stakeholders was conducted. The findings suggest that the local community's skepticism and mediocre (un)involvement, ambiguous representation of local tradition/culture, and limited social interactions between hosts and tourists were hindering social sustainability. Challenges in food resource management and the effects of climate change impacted the food festival's environmental sustainability. The study confirms that social and environmental sustainability are symbiotic in food festivals, and thus their mutual influence and interplay must be considered in planning long-lasting and sustainable food tourism events. This paper considers 60 historical and cultural districts from the China Central Television documentary series Nostalgia in Mind to investigate nostalgia. We specifically introduce place narratives and analyze the dimensions and connotations of nostalgia culture. Our empirical results reveal four dimensions associated with nostalgia, namely time, space, memory, and emotion. In addition, we explore various factors affecting nostalgia (e.g., nostalgia subjects, nostalgia carriers, nostalgia touchpoints, and nostalgia emotions), which further shape historical and cultural districts' nostalgia culture. To better understand this type of culture, we build a theoretical framework along the dimensions of instrumental–expressive and concrete–abstract. The nudging effect of default options on consumers' behavior has been demonstrated in marketing. Whether default options can be as a powerful tool for service failure recovery is underexplored. Thus, this study aims to explore whether the default option can improve tourists' willingness to continue using the chatbot after service failure. Hypotheses were tested using three experiments, results showed that the opt-out default option can increase higher tourists' continuous use intention by decreasing tourists' affective effort. This effect is moderated by service recovery and emoticon. Specifically, opt-out default option is more effective to improve continuous usage intention when using informational help and pleading emoticon. The study is directed toward explaining how a fusion of nature possessing cultural values might visually improve a village destination to make it more attractive for tourists. It represents a little explored aspect of the policy of “cultural consumption” currently espoused by the Chinese authorities, yet one that is low cost for Chinese villages. Results shows that employment practices tend to focus more on attracting talent rather than retaining it. The study emphasizes how sector characteristics, especially company size, play a crucial role in shaping both formal and informal talent retention tools, emphasizing the need for gender-specific tailoring.
