This study aims to fill this gap by empirically investigating the spatially heterogeneous effects of determinants related to tourism competitiveness. To achieve this, we utilized multi-source data, geographically neural network weighted regression, and Shapley additive explanations. The results revealed that market demand, physiography, and attractions are the most significant factors contributing to tourism competitiveness. Furthermore, the relative importance of these influencing factors varies across locations, based on different destination types, market contexts, and resource characteristics. This study adopts the participant-generated photo-elicitation method to explore the tourist gaze at the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Thematic analysis of children's photographic narratives reveals that they gaze upon the suffering of others. When interpreting these experiences of suffering, children form moral judgments about what and who caused the suffering. The findings reveal four distinct types of moral gaze: historical moral gaze, interpretive moral gaze, empathic moral gaze, and judgmental moral gaze. The use of participant-generated photo-elicitation method enables children to produce, select, and interpret their own photographs, thereby giving voice to their experiences. This method offers a more nuanced understanding of the children's moral gaze, which has important theoretical and methodological implications for conceptualisation of tourist gaze in dark tourism.

","PeriodicalId":48141,"journal":{"name":"Tourism Management Perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":7.3,"publicationDate":"2024-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S221197362400076X/pdfft?md5=889ddca37c4b703e6f558685e83ae26a&pid=1-s2.0-S221197362400076X-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141998414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the construction of women's heritage is often carried out in a gendered social and tourism context. Drawing on a critical gender perspective, this study examines how the women's heritage site is constructed in a Chinese context, and how the constructions are experienced by tourists. The heritage site of China's sole woman general, Qin Liangyu, is used as a case. Qualitative data was collected through semi-structured interviews and on-site observations, and thematic analysis was conducted. Findings indicate that the constructed heritage and tourism product emphasises Qin's military prowess as a general; however, its contribution to using this woman heritage tourism product towards gender equality is limited. The research highlights that a gender perspective of heritage construction and heritage tourism is needed in delivering the value of women's heritage for gender equality.

","PeriodicalId":48141,"journal":{"name":"Tourism Management Perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":7.3,"publicationDate":"2024-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141992965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing on ethnographic research in Greece since 2010, we explore how tourists' expectations and sensory experiences in food events influence culinary heritage and social sustainability. We employ Urry's “tourist gaze” concept, integrating it with a comprehensive analytical framework addressing tourists' and local attendees' sensory experiences in daily food events at culturally significant institutions like Greek Tavernes. Our study illuminates the dominance of tourists' expectations, preconceived imaginaries, and sensory engagements, revealing potential challenges to sustained cultural traditions and culinary heritage. While the “tourist gaze” may perpetuate static cultural dynamics, we identify “tourist (and resident) taste” as a counter-mechanism. Employing a constructivist grounded theory method, the study focused on two UNESCO inscribed transnational religious festivals attended by an Ethiopian diaspora community. Through this research, six dimensions of spirituality were identified: attachment to God, spiritual reward, spiritual growth, self-transcendence, religious knowledge, and sense of meaning. Each of these dimensions contributed to various domains of well-being, such as personal growth, environmental mastery, engagement, and positive relationships. The study also discovered that the experience of spirituality is influenced by individuals' roles and levels of engagement within the festivals. Theme parks present a unique context where interacting with cute mascots is a central draw for visitors, yet these can become a source of crisis. This study aims to examine the impact of theme park cute mascots on the public's forgiveness in online crises and employs the Shanghai Disneyland LinaBell crisis as a case. Results from social media analysis and interviews revealed that the perceived cuteness of the mascot, combined with crisis attributions and the public's sympathy, influenced their forgiveness. A survey involving 495 participants was employed to test the hypotheses. Results identified a significant moderating role of the perceived cuteness of mascots that weakens the influence of the internal locus attribution on public forgiveness. The number of useful questionnaires is 373. Academic studies on knowledge transfer and its efficiency are limited and very few have addressed this phenomenon at inter-organizational level particularly in a tourism destination context. We aim to address this gap by providing a conceptual model to extend research knowledge in this area. Drawing on social capital theory and knowledge management constructs, the model incorporates four pivotal dimensions: ‘structural,’ ‘relational,’ ‘organizational,’ and ‘knowledge’ properties, identified as effective antecedents of knowledge transfer through prior research. The proposed model is designed to be practically applicable and measurable in a tourism destination and includes a measurement approach based on a network perspective. The benefits of using such a model include a comparison between destinations, and the opportunity to illuminate the restraints within a specific destination for subsequent strategic management action.

","PeriodicalId":48141,"journal":{"name":"Tourism Management Perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":7.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211973624000655/pdfft?md5=22d949328e8e49a22ec171c869a2137f&pid=1-s2.0-S2211973624000655-main.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141596095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study points to areas for future research on tourism development and management to support educational attainment of local children and young people and subsequent community development activities in regional destinations. Specifically, this review's conceptual and theoretical values refer to reframing the tourism industry and community relationship as interdependent and mutually supportive, which can situate the industry's goals within community development perspectives. Yet, more importantly, this study also finds that men and non-binary lived experiences of GWIM in H&T industry have not drawn adequate attention in academic research. Among the qualitative papers, the commonly used interpretivist approach exploring GWIM reveals scope for alternative epistemologies such as critical realism.
