AI-assisted technologies are gradually permeating medical education and practice to improve healthcare delivery and reduce resource waste. This study aimed to investigate the awareness, use, and perception of AI among medical students in Emmanuel Quaye Archampong Library at the University of Ghana. Using a survey research design, data were collected from medical students at the University of Ghana Medical School. Structured questionnaires were administered to the respondents online using Google Forms. With a total of 1366 respondents, Krejcie and Morgan's published table was employed to select the study sample size of 302 medical students. Forty-eight (39.0%) medical students agreed that the use of AI-assisted technologies was voluntary without being coerced to use them. More than half of the respondents (50.4%) reported being moderately aware of AI-assisted technologies and adequately understanding the concept of AI. Grammarly and ChatGPT were predominantly used in medical studies, despite the lack of opportunities for training on AI-assisted technologies. It is recommended that regular training and guidance be provided to students to appropriately use AI-assisted technologies in research and learning.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142260918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research addresses the lack of semantic representation for NPIs, particularly within Botswana's development agendas, which impedes the effective use, accessibility, and integration of performance data essential for monitoring and achieving sustainable development goals. NPIOnto was developed through five steps: discovering the ontology purpose, studying the development agenda knowledge domain, developing the conceptual knowledge model, formalizing the conceptual model, and evaluating the formal model's effectiveness in enhancing the semantic capabilities of open data resources. The evaluation, based on practical application in Botswana, demonstrated that NPIOnto significantly improves the accessibility, understandability, interoperability, integrability, and intelligibility of open data. Insights from the Botswana case study indicate that while NPIOnto is tailored to meet Botswana's development agenda needs, it can be adapted for use in other developing countries.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142260921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The personality traits of the users of m-commerce vary and thus understanding the perspective of people to utilize mobile commerce systems is vital. This study thus examined the factors that drive Chinese consumers to adopt m-commerce. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was utilized as the theoretical foundation while the analysis was completed with AMOS using structural equation model techniques. The results have demonstrated that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use influence m-commerce adoption intentions. Also, service quality along with security, and privacy, were found to significantly drive mobile commerce adoption intentions. Perceived risk showed a significant but negative impact on adoption intentions of m-commerce. Familiarity showed a significant positive three-dimensional impact on PU, PEOU, and m-commerce adoption intentions. The theoretical and managerial repercussions of these results on m-commerce development and diffusion are discussed.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We reviewed and analyzed the implementation problems explored in prior research to determine the core problems and the important causal relations between the problems. The causal mechanism behind the relations was articulated with illustrating examples. This analytical review provides a deeper understanding of the fundamental aspects of IS implementation processes, which are conducive to preparing for the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) systems. AI systems are an information system as well. However, by embedding machine learning elements and necessary data flows, the implementation of AI systems would be much more complicated and challenging. We derived useful implications for AI systems implementation by advancing the understanding of the core problems of IS implementation and connecting them with the fundamental problems inherent in AI systems. The analyses and discussions motivate further studies on implementing IS with or without AI.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite this notion, the extent to which IE is integrated into the Library and Information Science (LIS) curriculum is not fully researched. Therefore, this study explored the importance of IE integration into the LIS curriculum in higher education in Malawi focusing on the Department of Library and Information Science, Mzuzu University. The study adopted a case study design, employing a qualitative research method. The study drew concepts of IE typology as a theoretical lens postulated by Froehlich. The findings established a low-level integration of IE into the LIS curriculum. In line with the findings, the study recommends a stand-alone course or module for effective delivery and indoctrination of IE concepts and practices.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected using interviews and the information horizon mapping method. Three findings were identified through qualitative analysis. First, the information source horizons of parents were relatively narrow and primarily focused on social media sources (WeChat public accounts and groups). Second, the source preference criteria that they considered were limited and mainly based on experiential, proactive, and professional aspects in selecting the appropriate sources. Third, the information-seeking pathways consisted of either monitoring a single information source or using up to two sources, without the formation of longer pathways. This study proposes a research framework for the orienting information seeking of parents of children with ASD, providing deeper insights into information seeking, and thus, potentially inspiring studies on information seeking in other groups.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is distinctive in its use of a mixed-methods approach to achieve its objectives. Qualitative method was employed to identify the factors affecting the adoption of digital culture, while a quantitative approach was utilized to explore the stimuli that foster students’ acceptance of digital culture, using the Modified Stimulus-Organism-Response (MSOR) as a theoretical framework. For the qualitative component, a sample of twelve participants was selected, including faculty members in administrative positions and students. Thematic analysis indicated that challenges such as lack of change management, inadequate resources, and peer rivalry hinder the implementation of digital culture. Conversely, factors such as digital resilience among youth, visionary leadership, and collaboration with universities in developed countries facilitate the adoption of digital culture. Additionally, there appears to be no distinction between digital natives and digital immigrants in underprivileged universities; both faculty members and students demonstrate similar levels of digital resilience despite facing various challenges. In the quantitative phase, convenience and random sampling methods were applied. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SPSS and Smart PLS-4 software. The findings indicate that System Quality (SEQ), Environmental Quality (ENQ), Information Quality (INQ), and Digital Literacy (DIL) significantly influence Perceived Usefulness (PRU), Satisfaction (SAT), and the User Adoption Urge (UAG) towards digital culture. This study highlights the importance of digital resilience among young individuals in educational environments and advocates for the integration of Digital Culture (DC) elements within the SOR framework to enhance applicability across diverse contexts.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also explored how innovative culture and social capital affect innovative behavior. Guided by Social Exchange and Social Capital theories, the study utilized a descriptive sample survey research design. The study was conducted at Otigba and Saka Tinubu Computer Villages in Lagos, using a sample of 360 business owners or representatives. Data was collected using a pretested and validated questionnaire covering innovative culture, social capital, innovative behavior, performance, and demographic characteristics. Analysis involved Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and Structural Equation Modelling, with decisions made at a 0.05 significance level. Respondents included owners (67.4%), supervisors (13.6%), managers (12.6%), and other staff (6.8%). Most were male (78.2%), aged 21–40 (71.4%). A majority (95.8%) could generate new ideas, 83.8% explored novel methods, and 91.4% shared innovations internally. Trust among SMEs was low (43.4%), but mutual support was valued (60.4%). Innovative culture positively impacted performance (β = 0.299) and predicted innovative behavior (β = 0.315), while social capital also predicted innovative behavior (β = 0.191). Social capital and innovative behavior did not significantly predict performance. There should be collaboration between Nigeria's NITDA and ICT SMEs to foster innovation through continuous learning, mentorship programs, networking mechanisms, and technology hubs.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.9,"publicationDate":"2024-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142188711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To facilitate research data management in Ghanaian institutions, this study, as part of a broader, more comprehensive study, investigates the availability of the relevant legal and policy framework as well as information and communication technology(ies) in academic institutions in Ghana. The study was conducted as a qualitative study in two public and two private universities in Ghana. The study discovered that none of the four universities that were chosen for the study had formal research data management policies that addressed data curation, technical infrastructure control, cooperative collaborations, and human resource competency. Universities in Ghana do not only lack research data management policies, but also the necessary ICT resources to collect, evaluate, describe, protect, access, reuse, and distribute research data. As a result, researchers keep and protect their research data themselves. According to the study, institutions in Ghana should update their research policy to address issues with research data management, such as data collection, storage, preservation, sharing, and reuse.","PeriodicalId":47137,"journal":{"name":"Information Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141920947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
