From the returns it is clear that dictionaries are being used extensively as sources of grammatical information including gender, spelling, synonyms, verb, noun and adjective forms, register and pronunciation, not just for meaning. The article argues that, although many believe the language laboratory is anachronistic, it deserves its rightful place as one of the ‘new’ technologies which can enhance foreign language learning.
