Though a number of studies have been done on the role of quality accommodation in enhancing competitiveness and growth of tourism in different destinations, little information exist on the relative performance of different types of tourism businesses in the local economy. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to find out whether tourism enterprises were different in their performance in the local economy of Kisumu County and analyze factors contributing to the differences. Thus, a cross section survey of 106 randomly selected tourism enterprises was conducted and data collected using self-administered questionnaires. Multivariate analysis of variance was used to determine performance differences in groups of tourism enterprises and descriptive discriminant analysis was used to find out pattern in their differences. It was established that there were differences in performance among tourism enterprises and that the key factors contributing to their differences were the number of suppliers they engaged in a week and in their expenditure on locally produced inputs as proportion of their total expenditure. It was concluded that right balance be struck in facility investments with some bias towards guest houses, clubs and restaurants.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130813064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The virus has negative effects in almost all sectors but the travel and tourism industry has been the worst affected of all economic sectors. This paper aimed to explore how coronavirus could change traveler preferences in the post-pandemic period. For this purpose 284 data were collected from the participants by an online survey. Descriptive statistics was applied for data analysis. The findings show that most of the participants have the uncertainty-driven feeling in their travels. There will be a tendency towards keeping a safe social distance, paying attention to health and safety precautions. At the same time transportation vehicles, accommodations and types of tourism, where the safe social distance is maintained, will be preferred. The research findings contribute to the existing literature and are intended to help the industry build new approaches.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127305344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept of motivation sheds light on the relationship between internal marketing and employee retention. This study examines the mediating role of employee motivation in the relationship between employee retention in an international chain hotel company in Lebanon. The data were collected from 284 international chain hotel employees. The results of the study revealed that motivation, which is also positively related to employee retention, mediates the relationship between internal marketing and employee retention. Study results were consistent with the literature concerning the positive correlation between employee motivation and retention. During this survey, it noticed that the international chain hotel in Lebanon is currently in the process of implementing employee motivation. The results of the study corroborate that motivation is an important variable that positively impacts the relationship between internal marketing and employee retention.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131346473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the growing importance of Porto as a tourist destination in the European and national context, there isn’t still a systematic study that identifies and explores the pull factors that characterize the behaviour of tourists that visit the city of Porto. This study through the use of surveys conducted in the historic centre of Porto, and adopting the Analytical Hierarchy Process method, allows in a nonintrusive way to identify and prioritize those pull factors. The results of this study allowed identifying the hedonic consumption dimension, which includes both cultural motive and gastronomy variables, as the determining factor in the choice of tourists representing more than 50% of the tourist motivations. The results of this study are relevant for tourism professionals that intend to offer authentic experiences that simultaneously explore the unique cultural and gastronomic characteristics of the city of Porto.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122969395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed Tourist Analysis Management (TAM) methodology integrates safety stock analysis, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, AHP (analytical hierarchy process), and ABC analysis to enable a decision maker in determining the tourism carrying capacity of a destination; predicting the number of tourist arrivals; performing strategic planning; and determining optimal strategy plan for tourist arrival management. The developed methodology can be implemented for increasing tourist arrivals in any city. The paper shows its implementation for Agra city, a famous tourist destination of India, in particular. On the basis of historical tourist data, tourism carrying capacity of Agra is determined. Next the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are identified and are prioritized to formulate strategies. These were then categorized as Vital-Essential-Desirable strategies. The highly rated strategies in context of Agra are improving the reputation of the destination; collecting regular and high quality statistics; ensuring cooperation and coordination among the tourism and other hospitality industries.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129108367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
