The study also examines if differences exist in these variables across the two groups of tourists. The „catch-as-catch-can‟ technique was used to sample international tourist in Melaka and George Town, Malaysia. A total of 1200 questionnaires were collected on-site and 75% of the total was randomly picked using SPSS, resulting in 868 responses analyzed. The two-step approach of structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to accomplish the study objectives. The t-test analysis demonstrated that repeat tourists expressed significantly higher food knowledge and behavioral loyalty than first-time tourists. The SEM results revealed that the structural model differed across first-time and repeat customers. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of behavioral loyalty process across first-time and repeat tourists in the World Heritage Site (WHS) of Malaysia from the food perspective.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116356250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper also seeks to find out whether a destination projects itself differently to different source markets. Using content analysis, the paper applies Pearce‟s travel career pattern model and McKercher‟s attractions hierarchy framework to consider the motivations of travellers and the specificity of the attractions they seek to visit. New Zealand and the United Kingdom are used as destinations. Results indicate that less experienced tourists, mostly influenced by Pearce‟s outer layer motives, are largely attracted by specific attractions. Experienced travellers, mostly driven by Pearce‟s core motives, are interested in a range of generic attractions. Destinations project themselves differently to source markets based on the needs and the characteristics of the tourists, even though recently the destinations are moving towards promoting several generic attractions rather than focusing on a few popular attractions.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122903100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depending on the objectives of the research, the total number of 66 masters and PhD dissertations were evaluated. These evaluated postgraduate dissertations were analyzed by the bibliometric characteristics like „distribution by years‟, „type of the postgraduate dissertations‟, „institutions of postgraduate education‟, „institute of released dissertations‟, „department of released dissertation‟, „key words of released dissertations‟. It is displayed by the findings that the most postgraduate dissertations were written between the years 2013 and 2015. Dissertations about clustering within the scope of regional development vary both by subject and department. It is determined that business management, economy, urban and rural planning, tourism, geography and finance were the most frequent subjects in the clustering-based dissertations. The study concluded that PhD dissertations about clustering within the concept of regional development were more than Master dissertations. The studies analyzed about tourism clusters indicated that the provinces Antalya, Erzurum, İstanbul, İzmir and Nevşehir were studied within this concept.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"198200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115187853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A newly initiated festival called Date Palm Festival is used as a trigger for the community to recognize their heritage as identity. Data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and qualitative questionnaires with the key community members that was analyzed using content analysis. Results show that the festival presents an opportunity for the Siwans to recognise and value their intangible cultural heritage, as their culture began to gain social, economic and environmental value. The findings also suggest future improvements for the festival in at least three areas community empowerment, women‘s participation, and the power balance between community and the government.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133672859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This exploratory research followed a mixed-methods approach using different tools and techniques, including surveys to 176 language tourists and 37 host families. The majority of the language tourists surveyed were between 19 and 24 years old, stayed with host families or in shared apartments, and their main travel motivation was the destination itself. Those who opted for homestays sought to integrate better and learn more Spanish, but generally speaking integration was considered by most respondents the weakest aspect. Still, the reported gains were evident, not only in linguistic terms but also in relation to respondents’ broad-mindedness. Host families also considered hosting international students a fruitful experience, which provided new perspectives and enabled them to rediscover their own culture. This study indicates that learning a foreign language overseas not only facilitates intercultural contact and the appreciation of cultural diversity, but can also change individuals’ identity and values. Further research needs to investigate in practical terms ways to better integrate international students in the host community and which contexts facilitate interaction and personal growth to pave the way for enhanced sustainability in Barcelona’s overcrowded tourism scene.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125483326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper was developed first review pre-existing literature on tourism, Olympic tourism, mega-event tourism, sustainable tourism and past academic research on the impacts from tourism. By using convenient and judgmental sampling technique, the data was collected from 100 respondents and analyzed using descriptive statisctics. Importantly, the results revealed that stakeholders would like to see more inward investment from the private sector to capitalize on the modernization and infrastructure improvements that have taken place in the area. Local businesses would like more foreign tourists to visit Greenwich in particular, rather than Central London. The local community remains supportive of tourism development, but do urgently seek a strategy implementation that can improve their standards of living and make the most of the Olympic infrastructure for the forthcoming.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114670906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This practice is known as Movie Induced Tourism (MIT). This paper examines the influence of displacement of movie setting on the tourists‟ satisfaction with MIT. It is based on a study that utilised both descriptive and explanatory research designs and covered filming locations at Karen Blixen Museum and Samburu for the movies Out of Africa and The White Maasai, respectively. The target population comprised 660 foreign tourists, who visited the Karen Blixen Museum and Samburu. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 345 research participants. Primary data was collected using questionnaires whereas secondary data was collected from published materials and e-materials. Descriptive statistics (percentages, median, means and standard deviations) and multiple regressions were used to analyse the data collected. The study findings confirm that that displacement of movie setting (β1= 0.477, p = 0.000) has a negative and significant relationship with tourist satisfaction. Through the displacement of the movie setting, a majority of the tourists were dissatisfied with MIT since what was being portrayed in the movies was not entirely accurate.","PeriodicalId":446416,"journal":{"name":"Ottoman Journal of Tourism and Management Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127084259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
