Brockhaus and I.A. Efron's Encyclopaedic Dictionary (1890–1907), is comprehensively examined. The authentication of the materials from the dictionary itself, epistolary sources and a separate edition of Solovyov's dictionary works (1997) have yielded a list of 183 articles written by the philosopher for the dictionary. The reader is welcomed for the regularity of the ideological component of the articles. Nine thematic groups are distinguished, in particular: “Terms, concepts”, “Personalities (philosophy, religion)”, “Philosophical, social and religious schools/studies”, “Personalities (others)”, “Mythology”. The articles that stand out in particular in Solovyov's system of encyclopedic heritage are identified. These are “Freedom of Will”, “Hegel”, “Plato”, “Comte”, and “Kant”. It is demonstrated that at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. V.S. Solovyov created his own history of philosophy, thus realizing the original strategy of studying the world philosophy by the Russian-speaking readers of the present section of the Dictionary (from VI–V BC up to XIX c.). The author underlines that the choice of names of philosophers, which Solovyov wrote about, illustrates the author's all-embracing and large-scale thinking. The author emphasizes the role of bibliographical sources, which were developed and verified by Solovyov and which help present not only the most important works, in the author's opinion, but the cultural context of the epoch as a whole. The thematic references in the articles are found to reflect the specific organization of the whole corpus of Solovyov's lexicographical works.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"211 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126094498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solovyov's autobiographical short story “At the Dawn of Foggy Youth” is proposed, as a result of which some features of the interaction between the author and the main character-narrator are revealed. This perspective of the study allows us to consider the ways of artistic use of language by the writer, his principles of building literary and artistic unity and conducting a dialogue with the reader. Methodologically significant for the proposed analysis was the theory of artistic speech by V.V. Vinogradov, largely determining the main directions of research. As a result of the analysis of the language layer associated with the image of the main character of the story, a conclusion is made about the variety of linguistic means peculiar to the hero's speech: expressive vocabulary, evaluative vocabulary, colloquial syntax, nonverbal language, individual features of oral dialogue. The characterization of the narrator's language as mainly literary is justified by the features of the author's idiosyncrasy, the high level of his education, the task of artistic representation of certain aspects of his own philosophy. As a result of the study of the author's features in the text, a conclusion is made about the conscious veiling of the author's image, which allows implementing a game strategy in the author's dialogue with the reader: through comments to the characters' replicas, through the ideological content of the text, in which some provisions of Solovyov's philosophy of love are artistically embodied and thus tested through composition, the choice of genre form.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134051800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon owes its characteristic outlines, firstly, to a bright galaxy of poets-translators of the turn of the century, and secondly, to the “senior” symbolists, primarily V. Bryusov, the discoverer of the urban theme in modern lyrics in the pendant Tableaux Parisiens by Ch. Baudelaire, in third, a complex of “modern sensitivity”, in the words of I. Annensky, with a tangible symptom of Baudelaire's melancholy. It’s emphasized that the inclusion of Blok's poetry in the Russian classical canon was carried out at the cost of “straightening” and simplifying the trajectory of his creative path, and a taboo was imposed on the compromising influences of the poètes maudits. At the same time, Blok's acquaintance with the work of the French poet dates back to his earliest youth: his mother A.A. Kublickaya-Piottuch was one of the first translators of the French Symbolists, and Baudelaire's poetry existed in a family environment right up to parody. The article discusses several cases of direct correlations between her translations from Baudelaire and Blok's Adolescent Poems. The legacy of the French poet is actualized by Blok in the period of his “decadent urbanism” through V. Bryusov, but not least, as shown in the article, and through new translations of Annensky, included in the book Quiet Songs, reviewed by Blok. The article reveals thematic, metrical and lexical parallels between Blok's poem Grass in the silver dew... (1906) and Baudelaire's Revinant in Annensky's translation, and traces the transfiguration of Baudelaire's topic.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115722761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blok, who saw echoes of Dante's Beatrice in the image of Sofia by Vladimir Solovyov, were not mistaken. Parallels are drawn in the development of the theme of love in the works of symbolists and V. Solovyov. It is noted that the symbolist understanding of Sofia did not take into account the influence of Romanticism on the image of Sofia V. Solovyov, dominating in Russian culture and aesthetics of the late XIX century. Using historical, literary and philosophical methods, the author analyzes the reception of the image of Dante's Beatrice and Blokov's Beautiful Lady in the works of V. Solovyov. It is proved that the theme of love for a Beautiful Lady among the troubadours, transformed into a means of expressing love for God in the Divine Comedy, is also characteristic of Solovyov's theurgic approach to the transformative nature of beauty and love. Recognizing the historical distance between Dante and Solovyov, using literary and philosophical analysis, the use of themes of Christian Platonism is argued to solve two significant unresolved problems in understanding the image of Sophia: firstly, the gnostic dualism of the image of Sophia in Solovyov; secondly, the question of the divine status of Sophia. It is concluded that the reception of Platonism in Solovyov's work and his mystical understanding of the image of Sophia remained predominantly monistic, in accordance with traditional Neoplatonic mysticism.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116789852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For more than 20 years, Getz was in close contact with V.S. Solovyov, L.N. Tolstoy and a number of well-known Russian thinkers, writers, and politicians. In this article, we set ourselves several tasks. Firstly, we will briefly reconstruct the life path of this writer, journalist and public figure, both in Russia and after his departure from the country after the revolution. Secondly, we examine in detail his creative heritage, analyze his publications in various languages, and also offer a bibliography of books published by Getz in the 1880s – 1920s. Thirdly, the article contains a commented reprint of two publications about V.S. Solovyov, written by Getz in Riga in 1925 and dedicated to the philosopher's attitude towards Jews and the “Jewish question”. Finally, we publish an article in memory of Getz himself, written in 1932 by his friend E.K. Keuchel, who published many books about V.S. Solovyov both in Russian and in German. By introducing a significant amount of new information and texts into scientific circulation, we expect to arouse interest both in the figure and ideas of F.B. Getz, and to the study of a whole layer of publications about V.S. Solovyov in various languages that were published at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries still eluding the attention of researchers.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"37 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131195818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ivanov, which occupy a pivotal place in his literary production, have been recently examined by M. Tsimborska-Leboda in the context of Augustine's theology and by V. Mahlin in the context of Bakhtin's analysis of Dostoevsky's works. The theme of ecstasy has also been considered by Pamela Davidson in her 1989 monograph. The present paper proposes to analyse this very theme, but this time in the context of the theological poetics of Dante's Paradiso. The relevance of this study lies in the fact that, despite a number of immediately discernible parallels, the differences between Dante's and Ivanov's conceptions of ecstasy have not been fully identified yet, notwithstanding the significant influence exerted by Dante’s texts on the conception of ecstasy in Ivanov’s writings on Symbolism. Comparing Ivanov's and Dante's models of ascent, P. Davidson sees a fundamental difference between Ivanov's and Dante's conceptions of ecstasy in Ivanov's rejection of the moral-ethical dimension as a sine qua non of the mystical quest. This article reveals another important difference between Dante's and Ivanov's descriptions of ecstasy, one that concerns the category of “penetration”. Focusing on Ivanov’s articles and Dante’s Paradiso, the article analyses them in relation to the category of “penetration”, to be understood as the ultimate realization of transcendence in Ivanov as well as in Dante’s poem. It highlights the similarity between Ivanov’s and Dante’s thinking as far as the category of “sobornost” is concerned, whereby a vertical relationship with the Supreme Being implies a horizontal relationship with the Other, to the extent of spiritual penetration into the Other. However, it is argued that, while in Ivanov's description of ecstasy the ascent of man and artist begins with erotic rapture and, at its highest stage, implies detachment from all earthly things and separation from them, for Dante the ascent, as described in the Paradiso, is accompanied by spiritual interpenetration which occurs in interpersonal communion even at the height of the mystical vision. The conclusion is that, although Ivanov's other works treat the theme of transcendence in a similar way to how it is treated in Dante, Ivanov’s treatment of ecstasy in his articles on Symbolism differs significantly from its description in the Commedia.","PeriodicalId":445879,"journal":{"name":"Solov’evskie issledovaniya","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121322432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
