Firstly, the design and the development of the proposed glucose measurement device are presented. After that, the experiment design of acquiring sufficient near infrared data for training and testing is described. Next, adaptive linear neuron was trained and validated to predict the glucose concentration based on near infrared light. Findings indicate that the proposed glucose measurement approach by means of near infrared light with different wavelengths (i.e. 850nm, 860nm, 870nm, and 950nm) and adaptive linear neuron was capable of achieving RMSEC of 82.24 mg/dL, RMSEP of 70.04 mg/dL, rp of 0.9066, and rc of 0.9068 for a glucose concentration range of between 20 mg/dL and 600 mg/dL when the learning rate of 0.001 and 207 adaptation cycles were used.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124685047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique involved of data collection from Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) for compound extraction. The development of Multilayer perceptron (MLP) is used to discriminate the qualities of AO chemical compounds to the high and low quality. The input and output data was transferred to the MATLAB version R2013a for extended analysis. The input is the abundances of significant compounds (%) and the output is the oil quality either high or low. This involved of identification, selection and optimization of a MLP as classifiers to identify and classify the agarwood oil quality. The result showed that MLP as pattern classifier is successful classify agarwood oil quality using SCG algorithm with 100% accuracy. This finding is important in agarwood oil area especially in grading system.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124878570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the reconstruction accuracy of OMP algorithm still needs to be improved. Though the OMP-based algorithms, LAOMP algorithm and KOMP algorithm proposed in recent years have significantly improved reconstruction performance while it can lead to fairly high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose an improved method for OMP-based algorithms using fusing strategy and demonstrate its superiority. We use the double intersection method to fuse the estimated support set from algorithms with low computational complexity to get an atomic set with high accuracy. This is used as an initial support set to improve the LAOMP algorithm and KOMP algorithm. According to the simulation results, compared with the original algorithms, the reconstruction accuracy of the improved algorithms increases to some extent while the reconstruction time sharply decreases and the performance is more remarkable as the computational amount of the original algorithms increases.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125041926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we investigate the EMG based assessment of the muscles situated in dorsal side of human body. Specifically, two upper and lower back muscles named as erector spinae and trapezius muscles are investigated during the body movements involved in Islamic prayer (Salat). Several time and frequency domain features of the EMG signal were examined to find the significant variation in the muscles activity. Results show that, both muscles maintain a balance in terms of contraction and relaxation during bowing and prostration position of Salat. In addition, the frequency domain features indicate that, the lumbar spine muscle exhibits contraction in each alternate position during the prayer. The finding of the study may help to develop rehabilitation program for the senior citizens suffering from back pain that restrain them to perform obligatory Salat.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127225132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many peoples suffered properties damages and economic losses. Thus, an accurate flood water level prediction model is required as an alarm system that would warn the affected area and residence to prepare for evacuation due to the upcoming severe flood. This paper compared the prediction performances of a developed flood prediction models that were designed using Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO) Auto regressive with Exogenous Input (ARX) and MISO Auto regressive Moving Average with Exogenous Input (ARMAX) structure. The models were designed using Matlab System Identification toolbox of parametric model. The location for the case of study was at Pahang River, Temerloh, Pahang with four upstream stations and one downstream station or observed location. The data used were obtained from the Malaysian Department of Drainage and Irrigation. Simulation results showed that the prediction performance of flood prediction model designed by ARMAX structure showed better Best Fit value and smaller rmse values as compared to the model designed using ARX structure.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"35 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114275881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed system demonstrates how human's ears respond to well-known-position audio source to estimate direction and angle of arrival by measuring the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) by using left and right ultrasonic sensors, in the same way of stereophonic technique. The key of work is a precise TDOA detection by using a very high sampling rate, this will provide a time-delay (TimeLag) in a fraction of millisecond. All these factors, mathematical theories finally encourage a 2-dimension Cartesian coordinates result. Furthermore, the suitable adjustments such as sampling rate, bit rate, distance between sensors, ultrasonic waveform, and others increase system efficiency as well as reduce the complexity. The proposed system can be applied in a variety of applications especially the LPS that fulfill the limitation of Global Positioning System (GPS) as well.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"587 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123935819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apart from conventional measurement using intake or outflow of air, breathing characteristics could also be assessed through human respiratory muscles with the analysis on Electromyography (EMG) signal. In this paper, EMG signal of human breathing is acquired from four respiratory muscles i.e. sternocleidomastoid, scalene, intercostal muscle and diaphragm while subjects perform four different breathing tasks. The aim is to classify EMG features from the muscles into the four breathing tasks. Classification is done using Feedforward Multi-layer Perceptron Artificial Neural Network (MLPANN). Four features are derived from the EMG data i.e. root-mean-square (RMS), zero crossing (ZC), mean frequency (MNF) and mean frequency power (MP). Classification is performed to compare the accuracy result of input vector from the four features of EMG and three combination set of these features using i) four data segmentation frame sizes and ii) six number of hidden neurons. The result of data classification shows highest accuracy when all feature sets is used as input to MLPANN with segmentation frame size of 1000 ms and number of hidden neurons of 60. Classifation accuracy obtained is 59.52%.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127524269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There exists several techniques for data compression such as discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based, which fails to achieve high compression ratio for an acceptable distortion ratio. In this paper, we explore exploiting Walsh transform with a moving average filtering (MAF) for data compression in WSNs. One application of WSN is wireless body sensor networks. We apply Walsh transform on real Electroencephalogram (EEG) data collected from patients. Furthermore, we compare our results to DWT and show the superiority of exploiting Walsh transform for data compression. We show that using MAF with Walsh transform enhances the compression ratio for up to 30% more than that achieved by DWT.","PeriodicalId":445522,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 13th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & its Applications (CSPA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126808941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
