It displays the canvas of Polish dualism in the author’s poetry. The paper explains its lineage in terms of ethnogenesis. It shows the genesis as the evocation of primeval religious substance of Pre-Slavic origin. The paper refers to the findings of cultural anthropology and religious studies. It shows how adequate the interdisciplinary methodology combining cultural anthropology, religious studies and literature studies is with regard to Syrokomla’s works. It proves that the methodology designed in such a way allows to provide the depth of collective oblivion to the motifs of theological, cosmological and anthopological dualism – with particular regard to spirit and body. The paper proves that the statement on the loss of Pre-Slavic substance of collective mental life in Polish culture is untrue. Podstawka","doi":"10.36770/bp.823","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.36770/bp.823","url":null,"abstract":"The article showcases a wide spectrum of Ferdynand Ruszczyc’s artistic activity, in particular his role in shaping the Polish scene of Vilnius and the Vilnius region in the first decades of the 20th century. Ruszczyc’s achievements as a creator of modern scenography in cooperation with professional theatre are unquestioned, as well as the artist’s strong commitment to the animation of culture in the broadly understood public space. Ruszczyc’s stage productions have become a permanent part of Vilnius’ artistic life, reinforcing the living legend of the city from the theatrical spirit, emphasising the beauty of its monuments, integrating the community with the place and cultural tradition, maintaining memory and national identity. The study, in a synthetic approach, presents diverse nature, artistic and social resonance of the performances, the phenomenon of which has been recorded by numerous memories and research works. {"title":"Wilno w okresie popowstaniowym we wspomnieniach Ludwika Czarkowskiego i Władysława Zahorskiego","authors":"Henryka Ilgiewicz","doi":"10.36770/bp.820","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.36770/bp.820","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of this article is to present Vilnius in the period after the January Uprising, its monuments as well as the public and social lives of its inhabitants, as portrayed in the memoirs of two doctors and social activists, Ludwik Czarkowski (1855–1928) and Władysław Zahorski (1855–1927.) Both authors are thought to have written their memoirs in the 1920s. Czarkowski’s memoirs were published in Pamiętnik Wileńskiego Towarzystwa Lekarskiego [Journal of the Vilnius Physicians Society] in 1929–1930 with the use of notes his family made available to the Journal. Zahorski’s family was in possession of the manuscript containing his memoirs after his death. After World War II they brought it to post-war Poland, and presently it is kept in the Manuscript Department at the National Library in Warsaw. In 2018 the first volume of Zahorski’s memoirs was published in Warsaw. In it the poet reached for experiences of the past time, to his family roots located in distant Ukraine, deeply rooted in the culture of the Borderlands, in the space of the Gorczaków wilderness. The creator of the Non-diary considered them to be a space of his pre-childhood due to the natural inheritance of the memory of the land of his ancestors, their deeds, thoughts and reflections, which finally accumulated in the inner self of the author. They entered into his life according to his convictions that we are older than our lives and that “the sources of our memory / are further […] than within us.” In the text an attempt was made to analyse the process of the transformation of the “Ukrainian family nest” of the Ficowski family into a specific form of heterotopia – into the “Land of Holy Oblivion”. With the passage of time, however, it has become considerably difficult to read and interpret those which were not signed or described. This is because the task is usually undertaken by people who did not always live in the times that had been recorded in the photographs. This is also true of the daguerreotypes by Stanislas Filibert Fleury that have been included in a separate album monograph devoted to them. Their reading and interpretation, however, are made possible by the verbal, ancient and contemporary, commentaries that supplement almost every photograph included in this proposal. The aim of the present considerations, therefore, is to make linguocultural remarks about the “linguistic data” recorded in such “photographic” commentaries, owing to which it becomes possible to reconstruct Vilnius and the Vilnius region of the times Stanislaw Filibert Fleury lived in. Thinking About Human Nature with Wisława Szymborska","authors":"Annette Aronowicz","doi":"10.36770/bp.836","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.36770/bp.836","url":null,"abstract":"Is it necessary to have a notion of transcendence, a traditional metaphysics, to defend the human? This article addresses this question through an interpretation of the texture and rhythm of Szymborska’s language. Her poems are multi-faceted, and often playful, but it is difficult to ignore the poet’s insistence on ethics, despite the utter indifference of the natural world to good and evil. Humans are themselves a part of the natural world, and thus, if, like Szymborska, one does not accept a reality beyond nature, the strangeness of the ethical demand, which appears groundless, becomes shorn of any possible explanation. The basic material is the book Men of My Life: About Love, Mercy and Good Help. The article uses the analytical-synthetic method and content analysis. The personalisation strategy on the example of the founder of the hospice in Vilnius, Lithuania, belongs to three distinguished types: institutional, behavioural and media. As a religious leader, she uses media visibility and a strategy of personalisation in communication to manage the only hospice in Vilnius.
