This paper presents the development of a software tool based on MatLab for power quality disturbance analysis and classification. Prior to the development of the software tool, the disturbance signals are captured and processed in real-time using the TMS320C6711DSP starter kit. Digital signal processor is used to provide fast data capture, fast data processing and signal processing flexibility with increased system performance and reduced system cost. The developed software tool can be used for real-time and off-line disturbance analysis by displaying the detected disturbance, % harmonics of a signal, total harmonic distortion and results of the S-transform, fast Fourier transform and continuous wavelet transform analyses. In addition, graphical representation of the input signal, power quality indices including sag and swell magnitudes are also displayed on the graphical user interface. PQ disturbance classification results show that accurate disturbance classification can be obtained with a total % of correct classification of 99.3%. Measurements were made in metropolitan Bangi area covered by high density of building and trees, using spectrum analyzer at an antenna height of 18 m for data collection. Dependence of path-loss on the distance between antenna transmit and antenna connected to spectrum analyzer was analyzed. This observable fact can be interpreted by the existence of an effective environment. Low level feature extraction involves automatic extraction of features from an image without doing any processing method. In this paper, we consider the use of high level feature extraction technique to investigate the characteristic of narrow and broad weed by implementing the 2 dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D-DWT) as the processing method. Most transformation techniques produce coefficient values with the same size as the original image. Further processing of the coefficient values must be applied to extract the image feature vectors. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to implement feature extraction technique using the 2D-DWT and the extracted coefficients are used to represent the image for classification of narrow and broad weed. It could overcome the disadvantages of current counters in the market that are expensive, bulky and overly heavy. This project involved both hardware (mechanical and electrical) and software design. The programming was written in assembly language with MPLAB. Special vibration plate was designed to automatically load the tablets into the photo-detector channel individually. The visual indicator of the counting result is output to a 7-segment counter. The user could stop, start and reset the counting device easily. The counting accuracy is up to 100% for many shapes of pills ranged from 8 mm to 18 mm. The main specification of the circuit is the modelling and optimization of the ignition power-switching device at the primary side of the circuit, which is important to provide high switching speed to turn-on and off the device. The selected power-switching device is Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor or IGBT. The other specification of the circuit design is the snubber circuit that can provide over-voltage protection at the primary circuit. Finally, the testing of the circuit is done by applying a control signal at the input source terminal or at the gate terminal of the ignition IGBT. The complete circuit design is integrated with the high-voltage ignition coil and special designed long neck spark plug. The filter is designed on 0.6 mm-thik substrate using microstrip technology by following the design procedure based on even- and odd-mode impedances of the coupled lines. Microstrip technology is used for simplicity and ease of fabrication. The design and simulation are performed using 3D full wave electromagnetic simulator IE3D. The simulated filter occupies a chip area of 12 times 3 mm2 and achieved an insertion loss of less than 1.0 dB in the passband and maximum return loss of 12.0 dB throughout the operation frequency of Ku-band. The filter has a center fiequency of 16.0 GHz with a 3 dB bandwidth of about 5.8 GHz covering the frequency ranges from 13.2 GHz to 19.0 GHz. The objective of this system is to provide unobtrusive real-time healthcare for cardiac patients who are in normal life setting, like home or work place. In the heart of the system an ultra-low-power microcontroller is used to control all other units like the transceiver, external flash memory, PC interface, etc. A novel algorithm has been developed to detect life threatening events before transmission of signals to the nearby computer. This feature is useful for power consumption reduction since the system can be programmed to transmit only abnormal beats and rhythms. Designing an appropriate algorithm for the implementation of FFT can be efficacious in digital signal processing. Sophisticated techniques such as pipelining and parallel calculations have potential impacts on VLSI implementation of FFT algorithm. Furthermore, a mathematic approach such as floating point calculation achieves higher precision. In this paper, an efficient algorithm with using parallel and pipelining methods is proposed to implement high speed and high resolution FFT algorithm. Latency reduction is an important issue to implement the high speed FFT on FPGA. The Proposed FFT algorithm shows the latency of 5131 clock pulse when N refers to 1024 points.
