In a time-interleaved fashion, the proposed calibrator can continue to correct the multiple output-frequencies of injection-locked DCOs, which can change independently between 0.9 and 1.2GHz. Due to the time-interleaved calibrator, operating continuously in the background, each injection-locked DCO can maintain the excellent noise performance; the 1-MHz phase noise and the RMS-jitter at 930MHz were −132.2dBc/Hz and 310fs, and its variation across temperatures and voltages was less than 9%.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133474395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system consists of a 36×64 pixel-drivers encompassed by a fully on-chip hybrid voltage regulator built on the same silicon chip, then integrated with the AMLED array by using the flip-chip bonding technology. As such, no external passive component is needed. The hybrid voltage regulator consists of a step-up switched-capacitor converter cascaded by a step-down linear regulator. Operating with a wide input range of the lithium-ion battery (2.7V-4.2V), the voltage regulator delivers a maximum power of 216mW with 91% peak efficiency and 78% average efficiency.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129300996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In detail, a bitcell based on low-voltage regulated Cascode current mirror is introduced. To reduce undesired bit flips, hysteretic behavior is obtained through the insertion of a Muller C-element output stage, which mitigates the effect of noise, voltage and temperature fluctuations on the PUF output. Measurements in a 40nm test chip show that hysteresis improves the bit error rate (BER) by 14%. A feedback scheme is also introduced to compensate the effect of temperature variations at run time, improving the intra-PUF Hamming distance by 40% and BER by 6–7% under temperature variations (25–85°C). Native worst-case BER of 2.8% is measured under 0.8–1.0V and 25–85°C, with instability degradation with temperature being 0.15% per 10°C. The PUF bitcell consumes 1.02fJ/b at 0.9V, achieving an energy efficiency of 16Tbps/W and maximum throughput of 24Gbps. Also, the proposed PUF can be designed with fully automated standard cell-based flows, thus enabling substantial design effort reduction compared to prior art based on custom design styles.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126422038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AERH compresses data, reduces asymmetric memory cell errors by modulating Vth distribution and thus enhances reliability and endurance of memory cells. AERH decreases data-retention errors by 72.6% and 82.6% of MLC and 3LC NAND flash, respectively. Chaos is essentially not a random phenomenon but a deterministic non-periodic flow which can be utilized to extract reproducible unique ID entropy. The strong parametric sensitivity of the chaos guarantees ID variety and unclonability over unpredictable manufacturing variations. An undesirable disturbance due to dynamic parametric fluctuations can be removed by circuit-level feedback compensation together with mixed-signal post-processing for stable and long ID reproduction. The proposed chaos PUF is silicon-prototyped in 0.18pm CMOS for the proof of concept. A compact 750pm2 chaos oscillator PUF successfully reproduces 512-bit unique ID with >98% stability. The proposed chaos PUF integrated with an inductive-coupling coil demonstrates chip-package-board interactive PUF for the first time with extended ID traceability including not only chip fabrication but also package and board assembly steps for advanced secure supply chain.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123972887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The monitor consists of NAND and NOR with extremely large difference in drive strength, which enables 4.2x sensitivity to BTI compared with normal INV based RO. This originates not only from accentuation of the degraded stage with small drive strength by the dominant delay but also from ΔVth sensitivity improvement of stacked transistors with increasing output transition time. In addition, our proposal allows to monitor either one of negative BTI (NBTI) or positive BTI (PBTI) selectively by making use of the Miller effect caused by the size combination of NOR and NAND. A test chip is implemented in a 28 nm High-k Metal-Gate (HKMG) CMOS technology. We successfully observed that measured results of each RO were well matched with simulations. Owing to this high sensitivity and successful NBTI/PBTI separation, we can detect variations and outliers of BTI at time of testing, and optimize guard band (GB) while considering NBTI/PBTI sensitivity difference of each circuit.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117044427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional DPWM delay-line-based architectures suffer from high power consumption limited delay time per delay-tap due to process technology, while the proposed solution replaces the delay line with a PI featuring sub-gate-delay resolution. To address the issue of the increase of area when using a conventional PI, a zooming scheme is proposed. Since the proposed architecture consists only of static circuitry, zero-quiescent power, wide operating voltage range, and instantaneous start-up are provided. A prototype chip manufactured with 0.13-pm BCD technology achieves 762-pW power consumption at 16.3-ps resolution and 10-MHz switching frequency, with 1.2-V supply voltage. With 0.75-V supply voltage, 163-ps resolution and 1-MHz switching frequency is achieved with 36-pW power dissipation.","PeriodicalId":438242,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132024970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A charge-pump technique is proposed for operating with a digital core supply voltage as low as 0.5 V without the restriction on forward junction bias (∼0.7V). A switched-capacitor integrator loop is presented for process-insensitive voltage-to-frequency conversion. This thermal sensor achieves an RMS resolution of ±0.173°C, resolution FoM of 4 nJ °C2, and 3σ-spread accuracy of ±2.8°C at 85°C. The area is 0.01mm2 and consumes 125uW from a 0.5-V supply. To the best of author's knowledge, this is the first BJT-based thermal sensor able to operate in sub-0.7V core supply voltage.
