It allows a user to deform a given mesh interactively and intuitively. Firstly markers are placed at existing mesh vertices. Then user moves markers as constrained handles in a free form style. Next a global shape deformation is obtained by reconstructing the shape corresponding to the translated markers. Finally the system smooth the deformed mesh to get desired result. Our approach successfully conveys a sense of rigidity of the mesh, which is difficult in space-warp approaches. We demonstrate that our system can be used to intuitively deform a complex mesh with very little effort. We also show that our approach of the deformation provides a natural way to interpolate between keyframes, allowing production of simple key framed animations","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125267378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generation of each fractal is dependent on the approach and algorithm used. Thus it is important to understand the properties of each type of fractals as this will influence the procedure during the generation of fractal. This paper discusses on three types of fractal iteration techniques, which are generator, IFS and formula iteration. Each iteration is supported with fractal algorithm. A system called fractal generation system (FGS) is developed to generate fractals by implementing the mentioned iteration techniques. Fractal dimension parameter is an important property which enables the characterization of the, complexity, irregularity and self-similarity of shapes. It is measured here to compare with theoretical value of fractal dimension and verify the accuracy of the fractal simulation","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130421877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Face detection plays a very important role in human computer interaction field. It represents the first step in a fully automatic face recognition, facial features detection, and expression recognition. There are many techniques used in face detection, each one has its advantages and disadvantages. The face detection system presented in this paper is a hybrid of known algorithms. First stage of the proposed method is applying skin detection algorithm to specify all skin locations in the image. Second, extract face features like eyes, mouth and nose. At the last, a verification step is applied to ensure that the extracted features are facial features. In experiments on images having upright frontal faces with any background our system has achieved high detection rates and low false positives","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132352687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information is gathered from the result of a hardware occlusion query (HOQ) performed on the bounding volume of a given node in the hierarchy. Although the advantages of doing this are clear, previous approaches treat refinement criteria and HOQ as independent subjects. For this reason, HOQs have been used restrictively as if their result were Boolean. In contrast to that, we fully exploit the results of the queries to be able to take into account visibility information within refinement conditions. We do this by interpreting the result of a given HOQ as the virtual resolution of a screen space where the refinement decision takes place. Our new error metric is general enough to be employed in any HLOD-based system as the quantity that guides its refinement. Despite its simplicity, in our experiments we obtained a meaningful performance boost (compared to previous approaches) in the frame-rate with almost no loss in image quality","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114640640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a comparative study of the linear and non-linear interpolation techniques for the shading of three-dimensional objects. It presents an analysis of different linear and non-linear interpolation techniques with respect to various parameters of shading. It analyses the affect of variation in specular highlight exponent on the quality of shading when the objects are shaded with linear and nonlinear interpolation techniques. The impact of varying the number of triangles in the underlying mesh on the shading quality obtained by these techniques is also compared. The interpolation schemes have also been analyzed for the Mach Band effect when the intensity is interpolated across an underlying polygon. Finally, the cost of few non-linear interpolation algorithms that give good visual results has been compared to identify better and cost effective shading solutions for different situations like shading on handheld devices","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132756340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design is then defined as collaborative and can be optimized by allowing upstream integration of data, resources and knowledge. In this context, CAD model becomes a digital mock-up (DMU) which is at the centre of communication and interaction between all the actors of the project. Thus, collaborative work software and hardware solutions come out to manage data, design process, and by extension the entire product lifecycle. We believe then in a PLM solution (product lifecycle management) that integrates product, process and resources, and acting as a framework for an efficient collaboration. Unfortunately, only the DMU is concretized from this ideal. Moreover, the tools are far from being operational, through lack of methodology, and the DMU is only used as a basis far data conference. Actual collaborative design is reduced to asynchronous data exchanges through PDM, even if some people prefer to speak about \"sharing\" since the product is a mutual creation. However, collaborative design has to allow cooperative work even in the early stages of design, despite of opposition between sharing and properties. The scope of this paper is to propose a state-of-the-art in the field of collaborative work applied to product design. We then show how actual tools, from CAD/CAM to PLM, can be used in a case study of a prime manufacturer and subcontractor co-design. We end by introducing a working methodology to succeed in collaborative design use and implementation","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133433866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithms were tested on Telecom Egypt diagrams and some randomly selected diagrams. The analysis involves three distinct stages: the location of starting pixels in the diagrams; followed by a model based line-following to separate the text and drawings; then applying a fitting and vectorization algorithm on lines and circles in the extracted drawings. The information is feed into database system for later use by technicians' staff. The first step is to separate between the graphic components and the text associated to them. The segmented texts are recognized by OCR system. The diagrams are segmented into graphics components as lines, curves, circles and filled regions. The extracted information from the recognized texts is matched with the recognized graphic components and are feed into a database system. The algorithm extracts 95% of drawing lines (cables), and 100% of solid regions. It uses color quantization to determine the different shadow regions and utilizes multiresolution hierarchy to maintain appropriate level of detail over the various regions of the mesh. To comply with visual requirements, our algorithm performs real time mesh subdivision on selected regions to reach the appropriate level of detail. In addition, we have adopted vertex split and edge collapse operations that can be performed without incurring extra vertex split/edge collapse operations as a precondition. The real time refinement, which can exceed the original resolution of the mesh, dramatically improves the quality of rendered image while using only a small processing overhead. This refinement can be applied recursively, potentially providing a smooth model surface and smooth cartoon features in any possible camera zoom","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130943725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
