Using medical imagery, computer assisted surgery (CAS) systems decrease the invasiveness of surgical procedures, increase accuracy and facilitate surgical planning and analysis. Craniofacial anomalies and fine anatomic details of facial traumic injuries can be well studied with such imaging techniques. This research is focused on reconstruction of human hard/soft tissues and anthropometric landmarks for craniofacial surgery. The data capture devices used include CT scanner, 3D laser scanner and close range photogrammetry. The visualization of soft tissue superimposed on hard tissue, display of tissue with varying opacity, and cutting of tissues for detailed analysis and planning has been demonstrated in this paper","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123006426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Attributed graph grammars are a powerful way of describing transformations of complex structures. Attributed graph grammars have been applied to describe visual languages, distributed systems, chemical reactions, music analysis and much else. Graphics combine the geometry of human vision with the geometry of visual space. Graphic vertices model basic percept elements, graphic edges model percept and neighbour relations, attribute Sigma-algebras formalise space locations on space and transformations, while graphic grammars give rules that express perceived shapes. Graphics production can capture similarities of shapes, as a restriction of the graphic analogy reasoning on visual space. Composition of shapes by specific operations causes gradual distortions","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124546319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem is complicated by the wide variety of styles, personal attitudes, and multi-level writing. Therefore, we implement a hierarchical strategy for recognition. Simultaneously, this requires the definition of primitives, connectives, and laws of concatenation. Consequently, we develop a linguistic recognition system together with its grammar and parser. The presented system, a new approach to this important area of research that reveals the complexities and advantages of Arabic cursive writing, then providing adequate solutions to the encountered difficulties. The resulting pattern grammar belongs to the context-free class. We complement the process by a lexicon, whose entries are the chosen primitives. The resulting system has a corresponding non-deterministic recursive automaton implementation","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131606430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The query image may present distortions (cropping, rescaling rotations, colour changes, noise...) from the original, which poses an additional complication. The majority of proposed solutions are based on classic image signatures, such as the colour histogram. Our approach, however, follows computer vision methods, and is based on local descriptors. In this paper we describe our approach, explain the SIFT method on which it is based and compared it to the multiscale-CCV, an established scheme employed in a large scale practical system. We demonstrate experimentally the efficacy of our approach, which achieved a 99,2% success rate, against 61,0% for the multiscale-CCV, in a database of photos, drawings and paintings","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130688861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present geometrical data exchange among different software packages is usually carried out through neutral file formats (IGES or STEP) or through proprietary formats. Data exchange processes are usually afflicted by several problems, such as: information loss, redundancy, one-way data exchange and static data exchange. These drawbacks do not permit a really geometric-centric design, and even if the model is transmitted without loss of information, the exchanged data do not incorporate details such as sketches, constraints and features, which represent the designer's intent. As a result, the model can hardly be modified, and the original intent of the designer may be misunderstood. During the last five years various solutions have been proposed to solve the above mentioned problems. The aim of this work is to investigate and discuss recent research trends in this topic","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"272 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131396874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two objectives are fused into a single iterative process in OLS algorithm, which makes the reconstruction fast and robust. In the end, in order to deal with large point sets, we organize a point set with an octree; reconstruct surfaces in octree cells and blend them into a global surface by partition of unity (POU) method. To sum up, the first method is dedicated to reconstructing a surface with a smaller number of RBFs, and the last one is a local method to bypass impractical global reconstructions. Effectiveness of our proposed methods is demonstrated with results of real world point sets","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127417716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The classification algorithms of audio signal can be divided into three categories: time-domain, frequency-domain, and time-frequency domain approaches. The first two approaches were discussed thoroughly in literature. Since audio signals are considered nonstationary, in general, these two approaches may fail in reflecting the behavior of each signal correctly. Therefore, in this paper, a joint distribution approach, the evolutionary spectrum (ES), is introduced and proposed for the discrimination purpose. The MFS descriptors are estimated by applying the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to the Arabic character primary part contour. Ten descriptors are estimated from the Fourier spectrum of the character primary part contour by subtracting the imaginary part from the real part (and not from the amplitude of the Fourier spectrum as is usually the case). These descriptors are then used in the training and testing of Arabic characters. The computation of the MFS descriptors requires less computation time than the computation of the Fourier descriptors. Experimental results have shown that the MFS features are suitable for Arabic character recognition. Average recognition rate of 95.9% was achieved for the model classes. The analysis of the errors indicates that this recognition rate can be improved by using the \"hole\" feature of a character and use cleaning corrupted data","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114535954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such displays have to be fed graphics information in order to produce spatial images. This information is typically 4D radiance data called a light field. Traditionally light-field models were based on the two-plane parameterization. In this paper, however, we present a light-field representation that is based on the direction-and-point parameterization. This parameterization has certain uniformity properties that produce better rendering results. We describe the files and data structures needed to store the representation, and we introduce a rendering algorithm that takes advantage of the uniformity properties of the direction-and-point parameterization. Our algorithm runs in real time and renders light-field models that look like their geometric counterparts","PeriodicalId":438098,"journal":{"name":"Geometric Modeling and Imaging--New Trends (GMAI'06)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127598287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
