Vietnam - a developing country and Phu Quoc island of Kien Giang Province in Vietnam own the great potentials and invaluable resources for tourism development. Nonetheless, Phu Quoc tourism has been also encountering difficulties and facing with several hidden drawbacks by its rapidly fast growth. The general objective of this study is to develop the strategies for tourism development towards sustainable tourism development. The triangulation research method is employed which consists of the secondary and primary data. Secondary data relies on vast sources. Primary data is the results of the surveys by questionnaires with 230 local residents, 150 businesses, and 530 tourists. Furthermore, primary data gains from the semi-structured and in-depth interviews conducted in Phu Quoc with local residents, businesses, tourists, local authorities’ officers, and especially with 12 experts. All of the surveyed data was processed with SWOT and IPA analyses. The results of the study will be useful sources for the Phu Quoc tourism development practice.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43735399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of the research is to improve aviation safety by optimizing the working conditions for operators screening. Therefore the authors recommend methodological procedures for assessing the influence of ergonomic parameters of the working environment on the screening performance and reliability. In order to meet the stated goal, HODERG method and expert analysis were the most important managerial or scientific methods that have been used. The result is the proposed methodology that should serve as a managerial tool for assessing ergonomic risks in relation to the protection of air traffic against unlawful acts. A necessary prerequisite without which the main aim could not be fulfilled was the fulfilment of the objectives of the partial ones, which at the same time aimed at enriching the scientific knowledge in the related scientific disciplines such as an identification of the set of ninety measurable parameters of working environment that could potentially affect the performance or reliability of the security screener and their analysis. The possibilities of application of the methodology were experimentally verified at the Václav Havel Airport Prague.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46649758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In such a region, hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate passengers’ preferences and willingness to accept low-cost air transport services. Accordingly, a choice experiment was applied to examine passenger choices associated with a bundle of service attributes applicable to low-cost air transport service. Results of multinomial logit models defined fare, frequent flyer program, food and beverage services, ground services, flexibility, frequency and punctuality as determining factors affecting passengers’ air transport choice in Iran. Results further demonstrated that passengers’ preferences and their willingness to accept low-cost air transport service are associated with their socio-economic characteristics and travel behavior. This study contributes to the relative body of knowledge through offering willingness to accept calculation as a strategic tool to assess the feasibility of low-cost air transport provision in a region where such services are yet scarce.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44492903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, a document analysis has been carried out on tourist count and revenue before, during and after the crisis. It has been determined in the research that the Russian tourist count and tourism revenue during the crisis (2016=866.256 tourists, 76.26% decrease compared to 2015) remained significantly below the tourist count and tourism revenue in the years before the crisis (2014=4.479.049 tourists and $3.471.263 tourism revenue - 2015=3.649.003 tourists and $2.609.037 tourism revenue). In the aftermath of the crisis, the number of Russian tourists and the revenue obtained (2017=4.715.438 tourists and $2.159.671 tourism revenue- 2018=5.964.613 tourists and $3.483.334 tourism income) exceeded the figures before the crisis. Russian tourists have chosen different destinations instead of Turkey during the crisis period. In addition to the aircraft crisis, the actions of terrorist organizations such as PKK, ISIS and FETO were influential in the decrease in the tourist count. Turkey has weathered the crisis a year through negotiations and diplomatic solutions.  These results indicate that international relations affect tourism demand.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41728567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study intends to identify the main dimensions that characterize each of the payment methods and, for each of them, seeks to characterize the tourists' perception of the main advantages and limitations associated with them. This study adopts a quantitative analysis methodology through the use of an online survey. A final sample of 238 responses was considered. The data were explored using Stata software and adopting statistical inference methods based on the analysis of variance. The findings allow us to conclude that cash payment is the payment method that simultaneously presents better availability and easiness. However, it is also the most insecure of the considered payment methods. For its part, the debit card is considered the safest method. This study didn’t intend to analyze the evolution of these payment methods over time. Furthermore, other emerging payment methods such as NFC, QR codes, mobile wallets have gained recent relevance and may be interesting their inclusion in future studies. The results are mainly relevant for tourism agencies and demonstrate that tourists’ perception is conditioned mainly by their age and the number of performed trips.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41386357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the growth in provision of tourism higher education during past 40 years, uncertainties remain about the content and nature of tourism degrees and how these are aligned with tourism industry needs. Substantial evidence is available on designing tourism higher education curriculum but the extent to which tourism higher education meets the industry needs and the job performance of the graduates has not yet been closely investigated. This study aims to identify the impact of tourism education on the job performance of the tourism graduates. Self-administered questionnaire fielded across the Island secured 260 public sector university tourism graduates response. Data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling in Smart-PLS-3. The study found learning outcomes have a moderate positive relationship on job performance. Tourism graduates showed optimistic perception about tourism education in meeting industry requirements. As recommendations tourism curriculum must be well planned and enriched with supplementary practical exposure. Faculty members must provide a great support for the undergraduates in accomplishing their carrier objectives and the learning outcomes. Conducive learning environment should be facilitated to reach learning outcomes smoothly.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45506272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, whether the levels of contact with the local people have any effects on changes of attitude was determined to be sub-goals of this study. Within the context of these goals, the attitudes of domestic tourists who have visited the provinces of Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, which are located in the Southeast Anatolia Region of Turkey, were studied using the post-vacation survey (n;386) technique. Additionally, data was gathered during the course of study from people who have never visited the Southeast to create a comparison group (n; 252). For the purposes of this study, factors analysis, frequency, ANOVA and t-test analyses were applied to the gathered data. As a result of these analyses, significant changes were determined in the attitudes (prejudices, positive attitudes) of people who have undergone experiences of travel. However, it was also revealed that there are no statistically significant differences that are dependent on factors of contact variables, namely the type of travel, the number of overnights stays, and the number of arrivals at the destination.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41730817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EFQM Excellence Model is a comprehensive management tool used to assess and improve business performance. In this article we focused on the use of this model in tourism enterprises in Slovakia. The main goal of the paper was to carry out research on the use of this model and to identify barriers that prevent the use of this model in managing and increasing the performance of businesses active in tourism. The research was based on formulated hypotheses, which we verified using statistical methods. As suitable statistical methods to verify hypotheses we chose the population proportion method and the Chi-square test of independence. The hypotheses were formulated on the basis of the available literature, published articles and research carried out so far. We also described the reasons that prevent the use of the EFQM model and analyzed the relevant context using a standard deviation. The aim of our paper was to find out the current state of use of the mentioned model and to present the model as a suitable tool for increasing the performance of businesses not only in the field of tourism.","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45086767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Visitor experiences at cultural areas are also influenced by site atmospherics, and crowd, that form visitors’ overall satisfaction with the site. This study aims to examine the relationships amongst visitors’ crowding, and atmospherics perceptions, and overall satisfactions in a cultural tourism area. With this purpose, a survey was conducted at one of the most popular heritage sites of Turkey; Topkapi Palace, Istanbul. Data collected from 261 Turkish and 236 British visitors, who have seen the interior and exterior parts of the Palace. By factor analysis, atmospherics is found to have two dimensions, namely; service and spatial. Analyses results exhibit that both atmospherics dimensions positively affect visitor satisfaction, although perceived crowding has a negative impact or both nationalities. Findings of this study indicate that cultural heritage sites are the areas where domestic and foreign visitors may have similar kinds of perceptions and evaluations. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":43795,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Tourism and Services","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":6.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46470997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For these reasons and inspired by the EC and UNWTO recommendations we developed a tourism quality scale, adapted to the Portuguese reality, which is supported by 5 subscales. This paper focuses on the validation of the tourism product subscale, which was tested among local public stakeholders, specifically Portuguese municipalities. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed and three factors supported quality measurement regarding the tourism product: (1) services; (2) resources and attractions; and (3) accessibilities and infrastructures.
