There is a dire need for forecasting the generation in order to have better load scheduling as the generation is uncertain because the weather is erratic and the generation depends on a lot of factors. Therefore with greater penetration of renewable sources in power generation, the focus is shifting towards generation forecasting. This paper proposes predictive models for wind power generation using non-linear auto regressive neural network. Three multivariate models are developed for a day ahead prediction of wind power generation. A comparative study is done on the errors and it is found that wind speed is highly dependent on wind direction. A model with wind speed and wind direction as inputs gives better prediction.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115307597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The optimal utilization of these resources is essential to minimize the lifecycle cost and environmental impacts of generation units. MATLAB simulations to minimize the overall generation cost with restricted amount of pollution from a hybrid power system (HPP) that contains thermal and renewable power plants with storage facilities are discussed in this paper. The generation cost of thermal, renewable, storage based power plants along with the costs paid for health and environmental damage caused by emissions from the thermal plants are considered in the analysis. Analysis shows that cost of electricity from renewable energy resources (RES) based plants is smaller than the conventional fuels based plants provided the cost associated with health and environmental damages caused by the pollutants emissions from the thermal plants is taken into considerations.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133873808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides numerous advantages in patient care and hospital management. With the advancement in technology and cost effective solutions, HIS adoption among the hospitals has increased substantially in recent years. Various project management tools are available which helpful in effective planning and project monitoring. In spite of effective planning and implementation in phase manner, the concern remains regarding the challenges faced during implementation and usage of HIS. These challenges includes Technical Challenges like Security of Data, Unauthorized access, confidential information, integration of Medical Softwares to avoid duplicate entry and Administrative Challenges like involvement of stakeholders, user acceptance, lack of ownership etc. This can be subdued either by utilization of data entry operators or through offline and duplicate entries, but such implementation does not achieve the purpose of HIS. Apart from good project management, there are various other factors such as involvement of users, effective trainings, awareness program, secure and role based application, compliance to industry standards for easily integration with other applications etc., which increase success factor of implementation. This paper presents the challenges faced in implementation of HIS in super specialty hospital, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) and strategies adapted to overcome them.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"396 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124743124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is distinguished in that fault tolerance in computing, communications, and storage, and the availability of relevant information content at the edge specific to the disaster scenario and location is ensured. The core themes of the framework are the prepositioning of a rich body of pertinent knowledge to facilitate helpers in a disaster area, and the rapid establishment of ad-hoc wireless networks to ensure that high levels of communication and coordination prevails in the response team, and the affected population. The paper suggests the availability of dedicated servers, local servers, cloud servers, and dynamically deployable servers, capable of support disaster edge services, with a fault-tolerant infrastructure capable of supporting and sharing computing, communications, and storage resources across the network. Virtualization of disaster edge services can be support on such servers if desired. Disaster edge services can be made available in a dormant mode of operation ready to respond to a catastrophe when needed. Adaptation of the proposed system to emerging Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) scenarios is described as well.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128514207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Statistics have proven all assumptions on the scope of Internet and its possible reach in delivering e-services, as incorrect. On the contrary, the reach & acceptance for mobile and related services has been overwhelmingly high. Looking back on the reasons for this success on one hand & trying to capitalize on this success on the other hand, it is apparent that M-Governance is the next evolutionary step, if not revolutionary, in ensuring equitable access and inclusive development. This paper describes how a cloud based interoperable architectural framework was developed to provision public services on mobile devices, piloted in the Indian state of Kerala and helped rapid scaling up of services at the National level.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128620891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Shifting technologies and changing regulations are required to refocus on security techniques for the protection of sensitive healthcare data. For the storage and exchange of healthcare data, Extensible Markup Language (XML) is widely used. But, while using the XML and its technologies, the security and privacy of the data as governed by relevant laws and regulations must be complied with. In this paper, we propose a data model which enhances security and privacy of the data by attaching security levels with data itself which is expressed in the form of XML. The security levels of the data and all type of users accessing the data are defined inside an XML schema.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121104820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Air conditioners consume about 40% energy in residential and commercial sectors. Adding to this wastage are human errors such as frequently changing cooling temperature, letting the AC run in user absence, lack of awareness about the surroundings such as leaving windows opened and turning lights and ACs ON etc., to name a few. There is an urgent need for a smart control system that can sense these factors and mitigate the energy waste. To this end, we design and develop a smart control system that can learn the ambient environment including the light and temperature levels, user presence, and user count before turning lights and ACs ON. Our proposed system also learns user preferences and sets the cooling temperature to a user comfort level rather than a preset value which may not satisfy the inhabitants of the room. We implemented the decision making algorithm and deployed the controlling unit in conference room for over a week. The system resulted in energy savings of 5%, obtained a 8.5 rating over 10 for user satisfactory levels and the entire unit responds in two mins.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116853358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the reservation chart used for passenger verification and attendance marking carried by TTE is printed on paper. This proposal tries to replace the existing paper chart with a handheld device. Since chart printing holds the major share of paper usage in IR, introduction of this idea in IR can reduce the amount of paper used by a considerable amount. The device can be used to perform the operations like attendance marking, ticket cancellation, etc. The device can communicate wirelessly with the server through stations and thus the changes in the chart can be updated at both the server and the device. This can help the user to get the live status of seat availability. A prototype of the proposed system is implemented using TMDSSK3358 evaluation module from Texas Instruments.","PeriodicalId":437025,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116905253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
