Methodology/approach: The methodology adopted is a comparative analysis of the ISO 56002: 2019 with the literature on firm innovation capacity. The methods employed in the study included a review of the literature on the dynamic capabilities and firm innovation capacity, and qualitative documentary research that consisted of three phases: pre-analysis, organization of documents, and the analysis of results, using information from the texts of the guidelines and processes indicated by ISO 56002: 2019, which additionally involved the ISO 56000 family of standards. Originality/Relevance: The adoption of innovation management standards generates several theoretical challenges when exploring details of their implementation systematically and routinely and empirical challenges such as understanding the advent of ISO 56002: 2019 for innovation management. Main results: Similarities were found between the determinants of innovation capacity and the ISO 56002: 2019 Clauses, as each of the seven factors found a relationship with one or more ISO 56002: 2019 clauses. Theoretical/methodological contributions: The findings obtained can be used by researchers interested in studying different innovation management models, innovation capacity, and, particularly, the dynamics of continuous improvement of the performance of an innovation management system and its interrelationship and interaction with other factors. Social/management contributions: Contrary to common sense in which the normalization of innovation management seems to be counter-intuitive, it is suggested that the adoption of ISO 56002: 2019 allows the innovation process to be managed, systematized, and replicated improving firm innovation capacity.","PeriodicalId":43121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation","volume":"9 1","pages":"389-413"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43127190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among several changes around the world because the pandemic of COVID-19, where would be the real place of innovation? Looking at years ago, we majority saw a technological perspective about innovation to attend demanding of business market. Today, we are sure that innovation assume and take new places socially and economically, which demanding for researchers’ additional skills and abilities to follow the dynamism of this scientific field. Researching about innovation become a challenge because it demands to put a deep effort to booster knowledge about its taxonomy, nature, definitions, mechanisms and theorical foundations. All researchers must provoke in their studies an enhancement of these basic perspectives about innovation in terms of keeping them alive or promote radical change to raise the evolution of innovation theory. Therefore, we run through these dimensions in the editorial to encourage researchers not to forget to contribute to some of these fields of innovation research. Taxonomy of innovation is presented in various ways in the literature. Eight different types are found including replication, redefinition, forward incrementation, advance forward incrementation, redirection, reconstruction, re-initiation, and integration (Agarwal & Verma, 2019). This information is relevant to give us how innovation offer a tong of possibilities for scientific research beyond of technological perspectives as we are seen nowadays. As definition, innovation would be seen like a process of interrelated activities to introduce and apply new ideas, processes, procedures, or device and systems designed to significantly benefit the individual, the group, the organization, or wider society (Cabrilo & Grubic-Nesic, 2013; Rogers, 1995). Innovation may refer to a process in which an organization must actively develop new knowledge to solve identified problems (Nonaka, 2005) highlights that it depends heavily on knowledge (Gavrilova et al., 2018). It brings a perspective that innovation demand more than technology existence, it demands people engaged, structure available and a huge level of goodwill, cooperation and applied knowledge. The mechanisms describe in the literature adopted a multidimensional analysis, however, to synthetize we adopt March (1991) who bring two forms of innovation mechanisms; exploitative and exploratory, which means innovation could be realized through the exploitation of existing knowledge and processes, or the exploration of new knowledge and processes (March, 1991). It means, to innovate require work with existence resources and pursue new ones when they are necessary. Innovation is also considered crucial in solving problems of social and economic inclusion and in improving health and environmental outcomes (Porter & Kramer, 2011; Tracey & Stott, 2017), and in this vein we highlight the main nature of innovation to assist people and enterprises to prosper in the world. It analyzes the managerial competences related to the production managers. Method: A descriptive Case Study of the company was carried out. As for data collection, it involved a semi-structured interview and document analysis. The data obtained were submitted to Content Analysis with determination of thematic categories. Originality/Relevance: The study carried out is justified by the possibility of contributing to the debate, illuminating aspects inherent to the Production area, in an innovative sector. Results: The research revealed an oxymoron. Although Valvmed is a multinational company that manufactures high-tech medical devices and operates in a dynamic sector, the competence approach is still configured in a traditional way. Although the area is characterized by its mechanistic and technical nature, it was possible to identify the demand for relational and behavioral competences that point out the relevance of the social content of the work. Social / management contributions: The research contributes to the managers who work in this field, insofar as it stimulates reflections about the complexity inherent to production management and the need for the company to make efforts to improve management competences that enhance human interaction. Theoretical/methodological contributions: Regarding the competence approach, the need to deepen the understanding of the dynamics adopted in the Production area in a high-tech medical company should be considered.","PeriodicalId":43121,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Innovation","volume":"9 1","pages":"267-294"},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2021-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41424714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metodologia: A pesquisa possui abordagem quantitativa descritiva com uso do metodo survey e aplicacao de questionarios em 233 proprietarios de pequenas e medias empresas (PMEs). Os dados foram analisados no Software Smart-PLS com a tecnica de modelagem de equacoes estruturais. Originalidade: A pesquisa investigou o desempenho da inovacao de produto no campo de estudo nas PMEs usando uma metodologia de natureza quantitativa com abordagem descritiva. As investigacoes sobre o desempenho da inovacao em PMEs ainda e um campo limitado e pouco explorado no Brasil (Manthey, et al., 2017; Davila, Varvakis, North, 2019). Outro fator de destaque foi o fato de a capacidade de absorcao nao atuar como moderadora na relacao entre a aprendizagem organizacional e o desempenho da inovacao de produto, o que se contrapoem aos pressupostos presentes na literatura. Principais resultados: Os resultados mostraram que a aprendizagem organizacional influencia positivamente no desempenho da inovacao de produtos nas empresas investigadas, bem como a aprendizagem organizacional impacta positivamente a capacidade de absorcao. No entanto, nao se confirmou o papel moderador da capacidade de absorcao na relacao entre a aprendizagem organizacional e o desempenho da inovacao de produtos no campo de estudo das PMEs investigadas. Contribuicoes teorico-metodologicas: A pesquisa apontou que a capacidade de absorcao, nas PMEs investigadas, nao e capaz de moderar, afetar a direcao ou a intensidade, do desempenho da inovacao de produto. Isto representa um contraponto a literatura ate entao publicada que defende uma relacao positiva entre a CA e o desempenho da inovacao.
