A multi-faceted debate emerges, in which the experiences of historians and editors of medieval sources are intertwined with those of archivists and librarians, to face the incessant transformation of Information Technology, from the first “Read-Only” Web to the Web 2.0, from the Semantic Web to the challenges posed to historians by research data and Linked Open Data technologies. / ITALIANO: L’articolo ricostruisce i rapporti degli studi medievistici italiani con le digital humanities, muovendo dalle ricerche condotte sulla documentazione vaticana e su altre fonti ecclesiastiche a partire dagli anni Ottanta del secolo scorso, per passare poi a discutere di alcuni progetti piu \u0000recenti, basati su diverse tipologie di fonti. Puis en 2002, elles ont beneficie d’une edition numerique diffusee par les editions Brepols en Europe, en Amerique et en Asie. Ce sont les chercheurs residants en Allemagne, en France et en Italie qui la consultent le plus frequemment. Une telle edition, comme le travail accompli par les auteurs du Repertorium Germanicum, ouvrent de nouvelles pistes de recherche aux chercheurs. Les realisations des Fasti Ecclesiae Gallicanae sont un exemple d’un travail accompli collectivement en partie grâce aux editions numeriques. / ENGLISH: Since the end of the 19th century, the letters from the Papal Chancery have been edited by the Ecole francaise de Rome. In 2002, they benefitted from a digital edition published by Brepols in \u0000Europe, the United States, and Asia. Researchers residing in Germany, France, and Italy are the most frequent users of this site. Such a publication, which is comparable to the work of the Repertorium Germanicum, offers new possibilities for researchers. Nowadays, however, this view is beginning to change. An increased interest in these remarkable documentary texts has been encouraged and facilitated primarily by multiple ini- tiatives that intend to bring papal or curial documents from regional repositories closer to re- searchers in the form of digital data. In a very short time, international, national, or institu- tional projects providing data bases and/or collections of digital images of medieval sources have become indispensable research tools. Transylvania, in particular, once a province of the Kingdom of Hungary and thus part of the medieval Latin world, benefits significantly from this wave of computer supported and controlled endeavours (both old and more recent). La ricerca e stata condotta su frammenti di registri, editi e inediti, appartenenti a 24 professionisti a partire dal piu antico pervenuto (il cartolare di Giovanni scriba del 1154) sino ad arrivare al primo quarto del secolo XIII. Attraverso la rilevazione delle indicazioni relative ai compensi delle diverse tipologie contrattuali si e ricostruita una bozza del tariffario allora esistente. Sulla \u0000base di questa bozza e stato possibile calcolare approssimativamente il ricavo annuale e quindi rapportarlo con il “costo della vita” in quegli anni in modo da valutare l’effettivo stato economico di questa categoria professionale, le eventuali modalita di investimento delle somme ricavate dall’attivita notarile e la collocazione sociale del notariato. / ENGLISH: Thanks to a particularly fortunate situation in terms of documentary preservation (as concerns both the antiquity and the amount of available material), Liguria’s two chief cities, Genoa and Savona, are an exceptional starting point for an attempt at establishing the actual income of a medieval notary. The research has been conducted on the fragments, both edited and unpublished, of registers belonging to 24 notaries, beginning from the oldest surviving cartulary (of Giovanni scriba, 1154) up to those dating from the first quarter of the thirteenth century. By collecting references to fees paid for different types of contracts it has been possible to reconstruct a draft of a “price list”. This draft has been used as a basis to calculate an approximate income. These studies define the subject of this article, which aims at raising awareness of the need to once again increase German-Italian cooperation. In this respect, the present essay briefly deals with selected issues and problems that are differently tackled by German and Italian scholarly traditions, and subsequently outlines four promising research paths for investigating royal rulership and kingship in the tenth and early eleventh centuries by means of an in-depth exchange between the two historiographies. These four new proposals concern macro-themes such as space, time, power-sharing practices, and the circulation of political models by making use of hostages. . / ITALIANO: Negli ultimi decenni la medievistica tedesca e quella italiana di ambito politico-istituzionale sembrano aver approfondito le loro tradizionali differenze metodologiche, come si osserva soprattutto negli studi sul potere regio (Konigsherrschaft) nei secoli X-XI. Questi studi definiscono l’oggetto del presente articolo. Con l’auspicio di contribuire al rilancio di un proficuo \u0000dialogo italo-tedesco, il saggio offre dapprima una breve – e certo non esaustiva – riflessione storiografica, a partire da una selezione di temi e di problemi che sono generalmente affrontati in modo diverso dai medievisti tedeschi e italiani; successivamente sono presentate quattro nuove piste di ricerca, potenzialmente sviluppabili sulla scorta di un piu intenso scambio tra le due storiografie, che ovviamente coinvolge la comunita medievistica internazionale nel suo complesso.
