Cognitive impairment in Down syndrome affects short-term memory and motor impairment due to the characteristic hypotonia of the muscles. People with Down syndrome tend to be visual learners. Through visuals, they are easier to remember and repeat. Visual memory in Down syndrome is better than auditory memory in receiving information. Therefore, the visual environment aspect is presented as a facility in architectural element designs to improve cognition, memory, and motor skills in the wayfinding orientation stimulus. Aspects of the visual environment are offered to stimulate the sensory vision repeatedly. Sensory architecture has a role in activating the body in receiving information, exploring the world, providing taste, and forming social relationships. This paper aims to discuss the design of the visual environment in stimulating the sensory vision of people with Down syndrome to facilitate wayfinding orientation. Visual environment design through colours, patterns, materials, and light are presented as tools to activate visual understanding in responding to and remembering wayfinding orientations. Aspects of the visual environment are communication and encouraging physical activity for users.","PeriodicalId":428753,"journal":{"name":"IJDS Indonesian Journal of Disability Studies","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139221799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The interviews were chosen data collection techniques with 5 religious’ leaders with a purposive sampling technique as the subject. The results of this study found that the house of worship in the Banjar community in South Kalimantan was still not referred to as an accessible congregation. This means that places of worship for religions in South Kalimantan, both physically, in communication, and in attitudes, cannot be easily accessed by persons with disabilities. However, even so, indicators of community displayed by all religions are already open and friendly to people with disabilities. This is evidenced by the forms of religious services provided by the church management or people with disabilities. The second finding explains that the views of religious leaders show great and positive concern for people with disabilities in South Kalimantan. In general, the views of religious people can be categorized into 3 major views: (1) The existence of a house of worship that is designated with non-Muslims, which is appointed by the Regional Government, as a house of worship that has complete facilities for persons with disabilities; (2) The house of worship has a special room for persons with disabilities; (3) Disability-friendly houses of worship are the focus of religious services.","PeriodicalId":428753,"journal":{"name":"IJDS Indonesian Journal of Disability Studies","volume":"304 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116099256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I will provide an overview of government support for people with disabilities in Indonesia in general and then focus on government support for the development of disability-specific sports. The method in the preparation of this article is a qualitative research method with a thematic study approach with the main subject of literature on policies on documents containing disability in Indonesia. To focus the study of the document, I take Jember Regency as the smallest scope of the source of the document. After that, I looked for articles that regulate sports for people with disabilities. This article will divide the discussion into several sub-themes according to the support provided by the government and the support that still needs to be optimized. Government support is meant to support the development of sports, accessible facilities and infrastructure as well as funding support. This article seeks to provide input on the development of special sports for persons with disabilities in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":428753,"journal":{"name":"IJDS Indonesian Journal of Disability Studies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114257540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of psychology students towards disability moderated by gender, class, frequency of contact with disabilities and experiences related to disability. The research method used is correlational quantitative through the distribution of an online self-report scale to 202 psychology students in Indonesia. The results of the analysis show that there is no correlation between attitudes towards persons with disabilities and the frequency of contact with persons with disabilities, especially among students majoring in psychology in Indonesia. The lack of social contact with people with disabilities in the Covid-19 pandemic situation is a major factor as well as opening opportunities for a more thorough study of the attitudes of psychology students towards people with disabilities in this Covid-19 pandemic situation.","PeriodicalId":428753,"journal":{"name":"IJDS Indonesian Journal of Disability Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139360755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
