The habit of creative thinking needs to be applied primarily in the field of education. This study aims to describe the level of creative thinking of students in solving story problems on algebraic material. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted on high school students, with a population of 120 tenth grade students. Research subjects by taking four selected subjects in tenth-grade mathematics and science groups who can think creative that is different from the creative category, quite creative, and less creative. The level of creative thinking of students is obtained through tests that include indicators of creative thinking, namely: fluency, flexibility, sensitivity, and elaboration. The second stage is a four-subject interview test based on the results of tests that have been carried out. In conclusion, not all levels of students' creative thinking are achieved well. This result is influenced by the obstacles that might be encountered when the creative thinking process takes place.","PeriodicalId":428575,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science and Education and Technology (ISET 2019)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132183978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used in this research is a descriptive method using a qualitative approach that focuses on pragmatics. The data source is a script of “Mind Your Language” short movie created by London Weekend Television in 1977 and directed by Stuart Allen. The sample of data is transcripts directive speech acts from five speakers. It expresses speech acts that represent the criteria of politeness strategies include bald on record, positive politeness, and negative politeness. The analysis is completed by collecting the directive speech acts as the data and giving code: 1 (bald on record), 2 (positive politeness), 3 (negative politeness). This code-giving technique is used to make it easier in identifying the politeness strategies used by the speakers. The writer uses the theory of Brown and Levinson (1987) to investigate the data. There are 30 (thirty) utterances occurred. The writer found 14 utterances that are categorized as directive speech acts. It means that those fourteen utterances are used as the sample to be analyzed based on politeness strategies. The most common politeness strategies in the directive speech act in this movie are a positive politeness strategy which indicates the speaker is seeking a close relationship and giving appraisal to the listener. Hence, studying about politeness and its strategies is important to make meaningful communication and to respect the addressee. The writer hopes that many people will be interested to study politeness deeper to create a better attitude, particularly about how to respect and save the face of a speaker and addressee.","PeriodicalId":428575,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science and Education and Technology (ISET 2019)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129231196","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of methods such as problem solving and self-regulation are very essential in geography subject. Applying problem solving along with self-regulation can be done by implementing 7E-learning cycle for the sake of maximizing the way students learn. Unfortunately, the ability of some students in problem solving is still low. To overcome these problems, 7E-learning cycle is applied where the students optimize the way they learn and develop their reasoning through the learning stages of elicit, engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate, and extend. This research aims to describe the initial conditions of self-regulation and the ability to solve geographic problems in basic knowledge of geography, test the effectiveness of learning with the 7E-learning cycle model, and describe the self-regulation by solving geographic problems in basic geographic knowledge material after the implementation of the 7E-learning cycle. This research uses quantitative methods and class X MA NU Nurul Ulum as the subject of this research. The independent variable in this study is the learning model, while the dependent variable is the problem solving ability and self-regulation. The data was carried out using proportion test, t-test, paired difference test, and normalized gain. The conclusion of this study is the initial conditions of students 'selfregulation do not have specific strategies in learning and the initial conditions of students' problem solving abilities are not familiar with high-level problem solving problems, learning with 7E-learning cycle is effective against selfregulation and problem-solving abilities, and after the implementation of the 7E learning cycle conditions the condition of selfregulation of students is accustomed to seeking help to support their learning and the problem solving ability of students can understand the problem to be more effective and re-examine the answer.","PeriodicalId":428575,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science and Education and Technology (ISET 2019)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128475863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
