Nine correctional officers participated in this study. To collect data, in-depth individual interviews were conducted from September 4 to October 3, 2023.Results: Four clusters of themes were identified; “feeling daunted by unawareness of mental illness”, “darkness caused by the tangle of vines inside the correctional facility walls”, “determined to overcome and face it head-on”, and “warmth emanating from the custody of mentally ill prisoners.”.Conclusion: Through the psychological experiences of correctional officers in dealing with individuals with mental illness, it was possible to understand the demands of knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to mental illness, as well as psychological and mental stress. It is necessary to establish an educational program and crisis response protocol for correctional officers to cultivate knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to mental illness, and to activate the mental health promotion program currently being implemented in correctional facilities.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"117 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139133093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjects of the included studies were people with mental illnesses (18.7%), nursing students (11.7%), and psychiatric nurses (8.7%). A text network comprised of the keywords from the research abstracts was constructed and presented. The text network analysis identified the main keywords as: “depression”, “family”, “stress”, “intervention”, “life”, “suicide”, “communication”, “alcoholics”, and “experience”. Seven topics were derived through the topic modeling: nursing intervention for mental health problems, nursing research for patients with mental illnesses, the competency of mental health nurses, the meaning derived from life experience, family in mental health, the mental health of nurses, and the mental health of students.Conclusion: This study determined the recent research trends in the JKPMHN. In psychiatric nursing research, efforts should continue to serve as the basis for practice and produce relevant evidence, and research priorities need to be established.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130814322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and structural equation modeling to determine factors that could influence end-of-life care performance.Results: Our proposed structural model demonstrated a fine fitness level. Our proposed structural model was also able to describe end-of-life care performance with an accuracy of 35.5%. Visiting nursing types, experience of end-of-life care education, attitudes toward nursing care of the dying, and end-of-life care stress were confirmed as key factors that could influence end-of-life care performance. Meanwhile, death-related anxiety was not a factor influencing end-of-life care performance.Conclusion: Findingsof this study suggest that the aforementioned key factors can improve the performance of home-visiting nurses in providing end-of-life care. Therefore, expanding home nursing services, developing end-of-life nursing education at home, and implementing programs to reduce stress and improve positive attitudes toward end-of-life care are necessary for home-visiting nurses who provide end-of-life care.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120908673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explored the role of early toxic interaction with fathers in males with BD.Methods: This qualitative study used a descriptive phenomenological approach and purposive sampling in Tehran, Iran, in 2022. The data were generated through 12 semi-structured interviews with males with BD who visited psychiatric centers in Tehran, Iran. The interviews continued until data saturation. The collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method.Results: The data revealed thirteen subthemes comprising three main themes: the experience of living in constant neglect and rejection, living with fear and abandonment, and reflection of the father’s past interactive patterns in the son’s life.Conclusion: Living in neglect, fear, and abandonment, and repeating past interactive patterns in current life were some of the bitter life experiences of men with BD, who considered the problematic relationship and misbehavior of their fathers to be somewhat effective in the formation of their life problems, but reported that they could not help themselves with personal and social adaptation. Individual and supportive psychotherapies with drug therapy can help the rehabilitation and recovery of these patients.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128867316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative study was carried out by secondary data analysis to compare the differences in disease characteristics and comorbidities between early and late-onset dementia.Results: The experiences of the family caregivers of patients with early-onset dementia were ‘Learning about dementia’, ‘Away from everyday life’, ‘Facing dementia’, and ‘Barely managing’. The study also revealed that one out of five dementia patients had early-onset dementia. However, most dementia services are concentrated on late-onset dementia. Thus, the family and caregivers of early-onset dementia patients experience relatively inadequate services.Conclusion: This study’s findings identified the characteristics of early-onset dementia, as well as the caring experiences and service needs of family caregivers from a more holistic perspective, and will contribute to the development of adequate nursing intervention programs and policies in the future.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"505 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133053691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected from June 2022 to September 2022 using self-reported questionnaires.Results: Problems with brain function were observed in the deep limbic system in 84.8%, basal ganglia in 78.9%, the anterior cingulate in 74.3%, the prefrontal lobe in 55.6%, and the temporal lobe in 34.5%. Additionally, 55.6% of the participants had more than moderate anxiety, and 32.2% were suspected of having obsessive-compulsive disorder. Anxiety, obsessive-compulsion, and eating psychopathology(ineffectiveness, impulse regulation, social insecurity, body dissatisfaction, perfectionism, and bulimia) were significantly associated factors of brain function.Conclusion: It was found that problems of brain function can be identified in a more convenient way by evaluating brain function through the Amen Brain System Checklist (ABSC), a self-reporting test tool, instead of brain imaging. Through brain function evaluation by the ABSC at the initial interview, more suitable interventions can be selected for patients. In future studies, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of practical interventions according to changes in brain function of patients with eating disorders.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114914217","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants were 13 nursing students who self-isolated for COVID-19. Data were collected through video conference interviews and analyzed using grounded theory methods.Results: The 14 categories that emerged were analyzed by fitting them into a paradigmatic model. The central phenomenon was “emotional challenges of self-isolation”. The action/interaction strategies were “adhering to isolation protocols and working to recover”, “using the time as an opportunity to recharge and grow”, “making up for classroom deficits”, and “envisioning a future nurse”. The core category was “focusing on what I can do now to avoid falling behind”. This process was characterized by stages of embarrassment, instability, endurance, and resilience.Conclusion: Missed classes due to self-isolation may contribute to student anxiety and depression, and educators should continue to make efforts to protect learning rights.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133517316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
