Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, Borich's needs assessment model, and the Locus for Focus model to determine the priority of educational needs.Results: Non-psychiatric nurses reported that enhancing skills in psychiatric nursing were more significant than improving knowledge and attitude using Borich’s Needs Assessment Model and the Locus for Focus Model. The highest priority educational needs were ‘Skill to distinguish whether symptoms in psychiatric patients are symptoms of mental illness or side effects of psychiatric drugs’, ‘Skill to calm and supportive communication in psychiatric emergency when psychiatric patients are at risk of harm’, ‘Attitude to remain calm about the psychotic behaviors of psychiatric patients’, and ‘Knowledge of non-therapeutic communication that interferes with effective communication with psychiatric patients’. These items should be considered as priorities among the 39 items to improve psychiatric nursing competencies.Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that developing intervention programs to enhance psychiatric nursing competencies are needed among non-psychiatric Nurses.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124980960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using SPSS/WIN 24.0 Program, collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé’s test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, Stepwise multiple regression, and SPSS Process Macro.Results: Achievement motivation had a significantly negative correlation with acculturative stress (r=-19, p<.001) while it had a positive correlation with self-esteem (r=.56, p<.001). Acculturative stress had a negative correlation with self-esteem (r=-23, p<.001). Self-esteem partially mediated the relation between acculturative stress and achievement motivation (95% CI, -0.05~-0.03).Conclusion: Results of this study indirectly showed that the negative influence of acculturative stress on achievement motivation could be reduced through enhancement of self-esteem. Thus, to improve achievement motivation of adolescents from multicultural families, it would be necessary to develop and provide programs for enhancing self-esteem.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125935009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These challenges are much more intense in the Middle East and Muslim countries than west countries, which are very conservative towards changes. This study aimed to explore lived experiences of mothers with transsexual adult children.Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 17 mothers with transsexual adult children in 2021 from cities of Iran. Collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step method.Results: Data analysis revealed that lived experiences of mothers could be divided into five main themes: “mother’s negative and painful feelings”, “mother’s concerns about the future of the child”, and “Frustration in the face of negative and malicious reactions from family and intimate people”, “social stigma”, and “lack of professional and government support”.Discussion Findings of this study suggest that unawareness and inadequate information about transsexualism and gender change could cause fear, shame, and confusion in mothers with transsexual adult children. Non-governmental organizations and support associations in countries that are religiously conservative can serve as centers for informing the public and increasing their awareness.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126629051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For data analysis, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 23.0.Results: The average grit score was 42.26±5.48. Grit showed a positive correlation with gratitude disposition and social support and a negative correlation with occupational stress. The factors influencing grit were gratitude disposition, clinical experience of 12~60 months, and occupational stress; social support did not have any effect on grit. The explanatory power was 25.0%.Conclusion: Results confirmed that the higher the gratitude disposition among clinical nurses, the higher the grit; and the lower the occupational stress, the higher the grit. In order to increase grit among clinical nurses, measures at the nursing organization level, including training and programs that can strengthen gratitude disposition and reduce occupational stress, are needed.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124501220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
