When older adults with dementia are institutionalized, their spouses, who were providing care at home, may experience chronic mental health conditions. This study examined and compared the mental health status of older adults who institutionalized their spouses with dementia in long-term care institutions versus that of older adults who reside with their spouses in their homes.Methods: The analysis included 95 spouses of institutionalized individuals and 285 control group participants, drawn from 63,617 participants of the 2018 Korean Community Health Survey.Results: The results showed that the spouses of institutionalized individuals with dementia had more depressive symptoms, poorer sleep quality, and experienced greater stress than those in the control group.Conclusion: It is necessary to provide supportive care, for alleviating depressive symptoms, poor sleep quality, and stress, to individuals whose spouses are residing in long-term care facilities. For a spouse caregiver, navigation help and education on the changing roles after an older adult’s admission to a long-term care facility would be necessary.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"28 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139130058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The participants were 67 soldiers with suicide attempts from an Armed Forces Hospital in D city. Data were collected from January 9 to March 9, 2023, and were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program.Results: Regression analysis results showed that diagnosis with major depressive disorder (β=.25, p=.013), survival and coping belief (β=-.52, p=.001), family responsibility and concern (β=.25, p=.033) were significant factors, and these factors explained 45.9% of the variance in suicide behavior.Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that diagnosis with major depressive disorder and the reasons for living influence the suicide behavior of soldiers with suicide attempts. Therefore, to prevent suicide, reattempts of soldiers, an intervention strategy to improve survival and coping beliefs, and family responsibilities and concerns are needed for soldiers diagnosed with depression.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"30 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139132535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Notably, they are expected to have experienced burnout when they were taking care of mentally ill patients infected with COVID-19. This study aimed to determine the impact of infection control knowledge, emergency nursing competency, and infection prevention environment on burnout.Methods: This survey was conducted on 127 psychiatric nurses from February to March 2023 using a structured self-report questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed through multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 28.0 program.Results: The subject's burnout score was 2.83 out of 5, infection control knowledge was 0.69 out of 1, emergency nursing competency was 2.80 out of 4, and infection prevention environment was 3.83 out of 5. Regression analysis showed infection control knowledge (β=-.17, p=.048) and nurses’ self-perceived efficacy in responding to an emergency (β=.26, p=.002) were factors affecting burnout, and the explanatory power for burnout was 9% (F=7.22, p<.001).Conclusion: Based on these results, we believe that infection control is needed. In addition, rather than simply providing education to increase nurses' emergency nursing competence, educational measures are needed to increase nurses' sense of efficacy in responding to emergencies.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":"62 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139130658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Construct validity was tested by conducting both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with data from 308 couples (N=616). Convergent and discriminant validity were performed using correlations between the K-PBQ and instruments measuring the concepts of attachment, postnatal depression, and dyadic adjustment. The reliability of the K-PBQ was calculated using Cronbach’s ⍺ coefficients.Results: EFA revealed that the 25-item K-PBQ was composed of two factors: impaired bonding (17 items) and the burden of infant care (8 items). The results of the final model fit were acceptable. Known-group validity showed that the K-PBQ score of the postnatal depressed group was significantly higher than that of the non-depressed group. The Cronbach’s ⍺ of the K-PBQ was .95.Conclusion: The K-PBQ was verified as a valid and reliable scale to measure postpartum bonding among parents with children under 12 months of age in Korea. It may contribute to facilitating further research on parent-infant bonding.","PeriodicalId":427945,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing","volume":" 572","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139136848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
