Since then, tracking of all deliveries and all the newborns are an integral part of the work of ASHAs in all the primary health care programs operated by the NHM in UP. \u0000The current study explores some of the crucial variables of the danger signs in newborns and their subsequent referrals by the ASHAs in four districts of UP. Through this profile, the knowledge of ASHAs on these danger signs and the action that they take after identification is detailed out. \u0000The relevance of the study assumes significance as data on the details of targeted activities on high risk newborns done by ASHAs in comparison to their performance are usually not available in various studies. \u0000A total of four districts of Uttar Pradesh were selected purposively for the study and the data collection was conducted in the villages of the respective districts with the help of a pre-tested structured interview schedule with both close-ended and open-ended questions. In addition, in-depth interviews were also conducted amongst the ASHAs and a total 250 respondents had participated in the study.

The issue of racism is mostly apparent that it deals with the subordination of the black people and their being exploited, abused and humiliated in their lands by British white people. As embodied through the character of the farmer, Dick Turner, the black servants are treated only as slaves and savages. More important in this novel is how the author deals with the psychic life of her characters. Particularly, the female character “Mary” who’s overlapping hurtful experiences and self-unconscious troubles causes her pain and sufferance in her relationship with the outer world. This paper will, therefore, approach the character of Mary from a psychoanalytic perspective and the variables that interrelate during Mary’s successive life stages to end up in her being murdered. That is, this paper is an attempt to apply psychoanalysis to literature. It will investigate how the accumulated experiences of socio-psychological past and present suffering led Mary to develop a psychological complex and act upon it. In other words, the study will analyze how the accumulated experiences of childhood, surfaced to the front and stressed upon by the occasional adulthood events, correlate to culminate in a tragic end in her life.

Primary and secondary data were used for the study. Primary data were obtained by the use of a well-structured questionnaire. The study made use of 316 respondents from the SMEs in the selected geopolitical zones in Benue. Demographic data obtained from the study were analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics such as percentages, frequencies and multiple regressions Analysis. The result also shows that a positive relationship between Political environment, Technological environment and competitive environment with Small and medium scale enterprises performance in Benue State and it is in line with a priori expectation and it is statistically significant (p<0.05). This implies that these external environments dimension significantly contributes in varying degree to the performance of SMEs in Benue State. The coefficient of determination R2 for the study is 77.0% indicating that 77.0% of the variations in the model can be explained by the explanatory variables of the model while 23.0% can be attributed to unexplained variation captured by the stochastic term while the Durbin Watson statistics does not suggest that autocorrelation was a problem in the model of the study. It was also recommended among others that since economic environment made a negative contribution to the performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Benue State, management of SMEs should ensure that all factors caused by economic environment is resolved to enhance effective performance of SMEs in Benue State.

Much of the agricultural function was transferred to the devolved units when the new constitution was passed by Kenyans and promulgated. The question many are asking is, have county governments initiated strategies in place to improve food security and ultimately contribute to the economy. \u0000Agriculture is the major contributor of our economy today. Kenya needs to be a self-sufficient country and feed its people. County governments have a huge role in ensuring this objective achieved. Based on this, a research title is proposed “Understanding the influence and effects of devolution on agricultural development: A case study of Garissa county, Kenya” The research seeks to clarify to the public and the other stakeholders concerned if actually devolved units have done anything to improve the agricultural sector since its inception. Have county governments put clear, achievable and practical strategies for this sector to grow and how best can counties improve this important sector. The research findings will be very helpful to those who are involve in the agricultural sector, directly or indirectly. \u0000The research objectives are; to compare performance of agriculture before and after devolution, to evaluate the achievements of devolution in the agricultural sector, to analyse the challenges faced by county governments in developing this sector, to examine the perception of the public on the best strategies to improve agriculture in Kenya and to give synthesised recommendations to all stakeholders. \u0000The research was conducted within Garissa County, four out of the six sub counties. A total of 310 respondents were engaged ranging from farmers, the general public and the staff of the county government \u0000The research found out that there is a gap in the sector that needs attention. Agricultural production, although remained steadfast over the years, has been in deplorable situation. The research findings is helpful to all stakeholders-both levels of governments, farmers, the public and non-state actors. The research commends that the County governments should use bottom-up approach strategy when making critical decision affecting the department. This will aid them obtain raw and unbiased information for action. The department of agriculture experts should be deployed to all sub counties (at the grassroots). 95 percent of these staff stay at county headquarters doing nothing. Their presence at the villages, farms will come in handy or the farmers. People with experience and experts should be employed to spearhead this exercise. Routine visits should be made to the farming areas.

The use of NTFPs based on traditional knowledge is widely known among the natives in Borneo including Bidayuh community in Sarawak. An interview was undertaken with the villagers cum vendors at Duyoh Weekend Market along with a brief NTFPs survey at the nearby community forest (CF) recorded 76 NTFPs species belonging to 65 genera from 46 families used by this community. Of these, 64 species or 84.21% were recorded in the nearby forest while 33 species or 43.42% at the village’s Weekend Market. Based on four major uses, more than 68.0% of them were edible or used in food preparation and 27.6% for medicinal purposes. Only 6 species (7.9%) were used for handicrafts, and was considered the least. More than 17% were used for various other purposes including as ornamentals. Among the edible species, majority (54%) were fruits. Most (89.2%) of the edible species were also used for medicinal purposes. Most, if not all, households had collected the NTFPs from the forest, but only close to 20% of the village’s household actually sold these products at the village’s Weekend Market earning an average of RM400 to RM640 per month with higher income during fruiting season (October to December) which can reach RM200 per day. Although majority grew the commonly used plants in their own land, substantial NTFPs (43.4%) sold were collected from the forest. Although this study is very short, at least it gave an idea that NTFPs are being used and its value to the community in terms of income. Thus suggest to have a longer-term study to cover all seasons/periods of the year to understand more on the products being sold and their values. More efforts in conserving the nearby forest is also warranted to ensure a continue supply of NTFPs for sustainable supply for the present and future community use and to supplement their income.

The study employed time series data between 1980 and 2017. Autoregressive Distributed Lag method of estimation was employed. The result revealed that the variables stationarity test were mixed between the first difference I(I) and level I(0). The cointegration result shows that there exist long run relationship between the variables. The result revealed that Balance of payment, Poverty, Debt rate inflation and unemployment exhibited negative relationship with educational development. The estimation result showed that all explanatory variables account for 88% variation of educational development in Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that government should fast track policies that can stabilize inflation and exchange rate in the country. Also, Policies must be formulated to reduce poverty and unemployment.

The current study shows the biodegradation of crude oil, diesel and used engine oil by a newly isolated Phenylobacterium korensee from contaminated soil of Bahror, Alwar, Rajasthan. Hydrocarbon degrading strain was screened on BHA (Bushnell Haas Agar) media supplemented with 2T engine oil as sole carbon source. The strain was found to be degrading at 1%, 4% and 10% of used 2T engine oil respectively after 14 days. Degradation was confirmed both gravimetrically and by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy analysis. The degradation was found very well at long term basis. The optimization of growth also studied at temperature and pH basis also. The significance of the study is that the percentage degradation of the complex petroleum supplements used in the study was found to be far higher than some of the previously reported values and this bacterial strain was firstly found from this contaminated site.
