Translation is a kind of cross-cultural communication, and its importance is self-evident. Eco-translatology, as a new translation theory, has been widely concerned since it was put forward. Its “translation ecological environment” has brought people a new cognitive vision. Its focus on the “translator center” has also enabled people to understand the translator’s subjectivity again. Its emphasis on “three-dimensional transformation” has opened up a micro path for translation studies. Therefore, the combination of eco-translatology and literary translation may produce different sparks, thus injecting new strength into cultural communication.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86085801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The linguistic community has also emphasized the study of combining corpus research with academic English. In order to have a comprehensive understanding of the research trends of corpus-based academic English writing in the past ten years, this study compiles the relevant research papers on corpus-based academic English writing from 2013 to 2022 and summarizes the hot issues and shortcomings based on the overview of the literature and the content of the research. The study finds that the research on corpus-based academic English writing in China mainly focuses on teaching, genre, register, and interpersonal meaning and found the two trends of the research on self-constructed corpus and interpersonal meaning. Two areas for improvement have also been identified: the unevenness and limitations of relevant research in China.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77855858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disproportionate experiences of stressors position students of color as a population particularly vulnerable to the negative impacts of COVID-19, thus, the current study assessed the impact of COVID-19 on undergraduate students of color in the United States. Students participated in semi-structured in-depth interviews about their experiences with stressors during the pandemic. Data were analyzed using conventional content analysis and revealed themes including (a) the pandemic’s impact on students; (b) basic needs as college students; (c) strategies used to cope with stressors; and (d) supports desired from institutions and faculty. Findings inform colleges and healthcare providers of the most salient concerns for students of color and the sources found helpful. As such, these findings may guide effective prevention and intervention strategies to minimize the effects of future disasters.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135999206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research issue is if a role-playing-based education paradigm improves students' self-concept and career maturity compared to conventional methods. Method: The study involved a sample of 112 children aged 10 to 12 years from a primary school in inland China, who were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. Adapted versions of the Chinese Career Maturity Questionnaire - Children (CCMQ-C) and the Chinese Self-Concept Scale - Children (CSCS-C) were used to assess self-concept and career maturity, respectively. ANOVA was used to analyze the data, with gender as a factor. Results: (1) The experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in both career maturity (t=-22.624, p<0.001) and self-concept (t=-12.973, p<0.05), while the positive effects of the intervention were sustained over time. (2) The experimental group, retested after one month, demonstrated a small but significant increase in career maturity (t=-2.383, p<0.05) and a significant elevation in self-concept (t=-12.57, p<0.05) compared to the pre-experimental test. In contrast, the control group did not experience significant changes in career maturity or self-concept after the same period. (3) Despite not being statistically significant (p>0.05), it was found that self-perception had a greater impact on women than on men, and this effect persisted even after one month. Conclusions: Role-playing was statistically significantly superior to traditional teaching methods in improving self-concept and career maturity, but gender was not affected.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"99 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74988727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies have shown that LGBTQ+ students are more likely to experience negative mental health conditions, drop out of school, and struggle to find employment after graduation. Cultural humility fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is critical to ensuring an equitable educational experience for all students, particularly those from marginalized communities. Intercultural understanding is essential to develop cultural humility so that attitudes reflect empathy and tolerance of differences, including sexual or gender orientation variances or ambiguity. Understanding how the power embedded in cultural climate marginalizes some while privileging others is vital to achieving equity.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135755543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An evaluation based on an applied thematic analysis of the accounts of 63 attendees in three Brazilian cities (January 2020) was guided by the following themes: (a) expansion of understanding about community health literacy as a pillar for planning and providing health care; (b) encouragement of innovation in research and/or practice; and (c) plans to incorporate the information shared in the course into professional projects. The evaluation disclosed the complexity of social contexts for health literacy, which is intertwined with ethnocultural diversity and deep socioeconomic disparities, such as restricted access to essential public health services for socially deprived and vulnerable individuals. Expanded understanding about community health literacy is a pillar for care planning and delivery, as well as innovation in research and practice projects. Participants’ evaluations revealed ideas to improve nurses’ practice in promoting community health literacy and empowerment, as well as quality of life and social well-being. Future knowledge dissemination may impact nurses’ clinical practice and management actions, bringing changes in various areas of practice to redesign more socially inclusive actions for clientele. Keywords: Community health literacy; extracurricular education; immediate evaluation; nursing; professional development course.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135756569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This shows from the side that we still have a lot of deficiencies in our understanding and application of our own philosophy and psychology culture, but in certain moments and environmental contexts, we have no way to deny that the substitution of ancient philosophy and psychology from China into our country's national conditions often makes the problem easier to understand and be dealt with. For example, the \"Book of Poems\", \"Zhouyi\", \"Book of Shang\" and other early classical literary and historical chronicles, which clearly record many psychological ideas about human body-mind relationship, self-awareness, group psychology, and individual psychological processes. I think that as Chinese psychologists in the 21st century, we should learn more about the ancient philosophical texts from our country through the comparison and integration of modern western psychology and Western modern and ancient philosophy, and finally summarize the modernized psychological methodology under China's own unique Oriental system. From the perspective of inductance, human beings' ability to sense and detect a large amount of natural information is still insufficient, and it has become a fetters for the prediction of natural disasters such as earthquakes and the broader development of future predictability. Even I personally think that maybe we are blinded by the continuity and universality of science. The development of science and technology depends more on the calculation of the combination of numbers and logic. Although this is reasonable, when more unreasonable things appear, it will make it difficult for humans to get out of the original thinking mode, which leads to this type of thing becoming an eternal unknown in human society.","PeriodicalId":42675,"journal":{"name":"Brock Education-A Journal of Educational Research and Practice","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.7,"publicationDate":"2023-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77555805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
