Teniendo en cuenta que los atlas tradicionales tomaban a NORMs ( non-mobile older rural males ) como sujeto favorito, se analiza si se siguieron estos parámetros en cada atlas cuando se eligieron los informantes de las encuestas. Después del análisis de los datos, se muestra que el patrón NORM se siguió, en general, en el ALDC y, parcialmente, en el ALPI , pero no se siguió en el ALC , que es un trabajo muy pobre metodológicamente. de la Península Ibérica Atles del Abstract This paper analyses the sociolinguistic profile of the informants used in the linguistic surveys for the elaboration of the three main Catalan dialectal atlases: the Altas linguistic de Catalunya ( ALC ), the Atlas lingüístico de la Península Ibérica ( ALPI ) and the Atles lingüístic del domini català ( ALDC ). Taking into account that traditional atlases took NORMs (non-mobile older rural males) as favourite informants, it is analysed if these parameters were followed in each atlas when the informants for the linguistic surveys were chosen. The data of the study were collected by personal observation of the researcher. The study findings show that Jordanians shift to English language is not restricted to a certain social class in Jordan. The study also reveals that the code-switching to English in Jordan has many reasons. The study covered a period from January 2019 to August 2019. The data were elicited by the researcher via his personal observation of programs broadcasted in Jordanian TV and radio station, through his speech and gatherings with his students, colleagues, friends and people around him in general. The study focuses on code-mixing to English language for communication in Jordanian Arabic in three domains: education, mass media and politeness, besides investigating the factors for code-mixing in Jordan.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66396641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Standard Japanese words were grouped into several categories to explain their historical distribution patterns. The influence of the old capital, Kyoto, was significant in the historical development of Japanese, against popular belief that Tokyo speech is the base of the standard language. It has already been shown that the railway distance is effective for explanation of regional differences in dialect. By taking the railway distances from Tokyo and Kyoto as a clue, and by plotting usage values laterally left-to-right on the graph allowed straight-forward visual interpretation of the East-West distribution throughout the Japanese Archipelago. In this paper, we report on the further results of application of two attempts. (1) We used past data on railway distance, comparing the railway distance data in 1980 and in 1910. The railway distance in 1910 showed closer correlation with the standard form usage rate than that of 1980. The correlation coefficient of the railway distance from Kyoto was low. However, it suggested a lot about the correspondence with the actual geographical distribution pattern. (2) The display method was improved. We superimposed a line graph reflecting the standard form usage rate and railway distance on a map of Japan. By visualizing this relationship, it became possible to intuitively understand the correspondence of standardization with traffic conditions and so on. We were also able to interpret the results from (1) above, and we discussed the theoretical possibilities related to railway distance. This analysis made it possible to see two peaks, one at Kyoto and one at Tokyo, for the propagation rate of standard Japanese on the basis of the railway distance. We also explored the possibility of applying the “limestone cave model” to other phenomena. We examine the possibility that geographical location can be used in interpreting the historical diffusion process.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44171306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Barzoki Rāji is an endangered language with small communities of less than 50 speakers. The data was elicited from audio recordings of 4 of Rāji’s native participants, including 2 males and 2 females. The findings of this survey show that 15 criteria of 26 criteria act as an OV language and 11 criteria act like a VO language. Therefore, it can be stated that more than half of the Barzoki criteria show the linguistic criteria of OV language.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66395067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected from native speakers using the Ibadan Four Hundred Word List of Basic Items. Using discovered common lexemes in the languages, the classification of the languages sound systems and syllable systems are carried out in order to determine the major patterns of differences and similarities. Some major sound changes were discovered in the lexical items of the languages. The systematic substitutions of sounds also constitute another major finding observed in the languages. It was established in this study that there exists a very strong relationship among these languages. The languages are found to be mutually unintelligible except for Owé that has a degree of mutual intelligibility with Yoruba. The paper concludes that the major reason for divergence is language contact.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66395096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As expected, to know the names of this type of instruments related to traditional life, we must begin with with Joan Coromines’ research on Aranese. But in this case, we check insufficient data as well as very important gaps, even contradictions. After having carried out numerous dialectological surveys in the Val d’Aran, we can establish the inventory of forms that refer to these utensils and to specify their geographical distribution, which is certainly complex. We count up to a half dozen denominations, some of which do not even appear in Coromines’s work. We are able to make some considerations on the linguistic position of the Aranese languages and on the relations they maintain with the Gascon dialects located on the other side of the political border.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"93 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66334096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dialectometry seeks to measure the differences between dialects and has developed several ways to measure the difference between responses when one or both of them is non-unique. We introduce here BILBAO DISTANCE, where the cardinality of response is unimportant, which may be combined with various weighting functions such as edit distance or inverse frequency weighting, and which yields intuitively appealing measures, e.g., when applied to a singleton set {a} and a set with the same element plus a second, yields d({a},{a,b}) = 0.5. It overcomes flaws in earlier proposals and is conceptually simpler and computationally more efficient to apply than earlier measures. We suspect that its results satisfy the metric axioms, as it is certainly symmetric and measures the difference between identical sets as zero.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66395209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Special attention will be paid to this construction: (article) + noun + possessive pronoun (la casa mía), as its origin and expansion is located in Aragón; and also to this one: possessive adjective + noun (mi casa), as it is the common structure in Castilian by the same period of time. We will check if there is a difference between the results obtained in our analysis and what happened in Castilian at the same time, due to well-known variation in Aragonese among other morphological aspects. In order to get accurate data, we will extract information from 3 notarial documents from Zaragoza and another 3 documents from Teruel. All of them were handwritten in the 15th century, which is a relevant age in the history of Aragonese language because it is considered the period of the definitive advance of Castilian in Aragón and the loss of the traditional romance in the great part of the kingdom.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whereas infinitive subjects must follow the verb in European Spanish, they can also appear in preverbal position in Puerto Rican Spanish. On the one hand, this paper provides a detailed description of the phenomenon; for example, it determines what type of subjects can occupy the preverbal position in Puerto Rican Spanish. On the other hand, it offers empirical evidence for the following claim: this asymmetry between European and Puerto Rican Spanish is derived from infinitive subjects occupying different positions in these varieties, but not from the verb moving from T(ense) to C(omplementizer) in European Spanish.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
