In each location, recordings were made of two older male speakers and two younger female speakers. Using the transcriptions, we calculated linguistic distances among the speakers and classified the 172 speakers in natural groups by using bootstrap clustering. We used Ward’s clustering, which minimizes the total within-cluster variance. Comparing the groupings of the older male speakers with those of the younger female speakers we found that the number of groups decreased and the size of the Hollandic group increased at the lexical and morphological level. We also weighed words by their frequency of use. For the weighed data, we found a smaller number of groups and a significantly larger Hollandic area at the morphological level than for the unweighed data. This may indicate a new ‘Hollandic expansion’.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66390774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The change can be attributed to the changes in the perception of their mother tongue in the Slovene and Friulian communities themselves in relation to the prevailing Italian language, the use of which implied a more prestigious position in society in the past, as well as to the change of attitudes towards the two minority languages among the majority population. Changes of discursive practices are occurring hand in hand with changes in identity practices. The paper presents a qualitative study on the topic in which 22 sociolinguistic interviews with the speakers of Friulian and the Slovene were carried out.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66393816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, advertising is far from just being informative in an innocent and straightforward way. Advertising has an agenda. It is a skillfully constructed message, which manipulates the viewers’ culturally created perceptions and aspirations, and which presents the advertised product as a way to satisfy the audience’s desires. This happens by creating a specific image for the advertised stuff and building the viewers’ perception of such ads. Advertising is also about establishing a relationship between the advertiser and the viewer and it is important to look at this relationship as it helps to form the consumers’ behavior towards the advertised product. Academic contributions on the linguistic features of advertising appeared few decades and developed into a rich interdisciplinary field of study. Advertising has attracted consistent and intense attention across academic disciplines including marketing, media studies, psychology, sociology, and linguistics. From a linguistic dimension, advertising research focused heavily on the description of specific textual devices or the relations between text and image, and certain pragmatic features, which view advertising as a special concept of discourse. In this sense some important questions remain unapproached, like, how are the addressees motivated to tackle and process linguistic notions in advertising and what are the strategies to manipulate their mental concepts.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, some elderly Hakka speakers have acknowledged this situation and are trying to preserve the Hakka language and culture as much as possible. Two research projects of Hakka language preservation and revitalization were conducted using Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach by the participants and researchers. The results were that in the first project, the adult generation had the ability to teach the traditional Hakka food style, but there were no Hakka children to learn from them. Several factors, such as fast food, climate change, and young people going to study outside the community, had an effect on language revitalization and preservation. Results from the second project showed that volunteer participants, Hakka association networks and internet communication are positive factors for language revitalization. Young people had opportunities to hear and speak Hakka with the elderly in the events if these were mainly organized occasions. Some participants collected data from Hakka speakers while others wrote articles related to their family history which they wanted to record and transfer to the next generation. As their knowledge of Hakka was limited, they wrote in the Thai language instead. From observation, most Hakka speakers know words from their language, but they cannot use them in full sentences. If someone could communicate in Hakka, they used mixed language with Thai.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ten upper class speakers from Medellin provided information through questionnaires. Data show that the kind of relationship with interlocutors, their age, and the gender of the speakers are factors that influence the use of vos as a form of address. The analysis of the results shows that paisas, regardless of their age, see the voseo as part of their identity and as a linguistic phenomenon of membership to their community. This study constitutes the basis for future studies about this phenomenon and a point of reflection in the teaching field about the importance of including voseo in L2 Spanish classrooms.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to Pater (1999), nasal substitution in Indonesian language is not realised within the morphemes even though there is a sequence of nasal and voiceless obstruent, for example, the word /empat/ is realised as [əmpat]. However, the occurrence of the sequence across morphemes for instance, at prefix-root boundaries is resolved by nasal substitution. For example, /məŋ+pukul/ is realised as [məmukul]. In this paper, the resistance of root-internal segments to phonological processes is questioned. Evidences from two Malay dialects i.e. Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan show that root-internal segments are not exempted from undergoing some phonological processes to eliminate nasal and voiceless obstruent clusters. For instance, roots like /bantal/ and /ʤəmput/ are realised as [bata:] and [ʤaput] in Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan dialects respectively.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66394482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En primer lugar, se analiza como sujeto de la oracion copulativa el infinitivo con la preposicion de que aparece tras la copula. Tras repasar y precisar los contextos en los que se produce deismo con verbos predicativos, se ofrecen nuevos datos relevantes sobre esta construccion en las oraciones copulativas, asi como una clasificacion de los sustantivos que permiten la aparicion del deismo. La comparacion muestra que los contextos de deismo en oraciones con verbo predicativo y con verbo copulativo son similares. Por ultimo, se propone que en estas construcciones, igual que en el resto de las oraciones con deismo, el segmento de no se comporta como una verdadera preposicion, sino que se asimila a una conjuncion. EnglishIn this paper we present a description of the de+ infinitive clause non-standard construction (the so-called deismo) in identificational sentences in Spanish. In the first place, the infinitive with de that appears after the copula is analyzed as the subject of the copulative sentence. After the analysis of the contexts in which this construction occurs with predicative verbs, new relevant data in the context of copulative sentences areoffered, as well as a classification of the nouns that allow the appearance of deismoin copulative sentences. The comparison between the two groups shows that generalizations with predicative verbs can be extended to the nouns which are the predicate of identificational sentences. Finally, it is shown that in these constructions, as in predicative contexts, the segment de does not behave like a preposition but as a complementizer.","PeriodicalId":42481,"journal":{"name":"Dialectologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66393327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
