Hey","doi":"10.1109/APEC.1997.575738","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/APEC.1997.575738","url":null,"abstract":"An improved zero current switching pulse width modulation (ZCS-PWM) commutation cell is proposed, which is suitable for high power applications using IGBTs as the power switches. It provides ZCS operation for active switches with low current stress, without overvoltage and PWM operating at constant frequency. The main advantage of this cell is a substantial reduction of the resonant current peak through the main switch during the commutation process. Therefore, the RMS current through it is very close to that observed in hard-switching PWM power converters. Also, small ratings auxiliary components can be used. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed ZCS-PWM commutation cell, it was applied to a boost power converter. Operating principles, theoretical analysis, design guidelines and a design example are described and verified by experimental results obtained from a prototype operating at 40 kHz, with an input voltage rated at 155 V and 1 kW output power. The high frequency electric vehicle inductive charger is basically a transformer with movable/separable parts for which a recommended practice has been published by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE J-1773). The practice specifies the inductive coupler (transformer) equivalent circuit and values. This paper investigates the design considerations for power converters suitable for supplying the SAE J-1773 inductive coupler. The configuration of this converter is achieved by combining a flyback circuit and a forward circuit in one power stage. By re-arranging the active switch, it was possible to develop a converter topology that allows its PFC circuit and power conversion circuit to share the same power switch. Due to its simplified power stage and control circuit, this converter unit will potentially have a better efficiency, lower cost and higher reliability. A near unity power factor can be obtained by this single switch converter unit on the account of employing a flyback circuit as its input. Steady state analysis and detailed design procedure is presented in this paper. A third transistor has been connected from ground to output, in order to obtain high efficiency coil discharge. A simple theoretical characterization has been used to provide some diagrams to optimize the power efficiency as a function of a nonconstant load such as that due to a rotor unbalance. Work has shown that a bias field may have significant influence on the remagnetization losses and therefore has to be considered in the component design. Using a precise measurement setup this paper investigates the frequency dependence of the power loss increase due to premagnetization. The measurements are performed on typical ferrites of two major manufacturers. The experimental results show that there are two major contributions to the total remagnetization losses of soft-ferrites whereas only one contribution is influenced by premagnetization. The operating behavior of the system which consists of a series connection of a line-commutated three-phase bridge and a turn-off power semiconductor device and in principle does not require passive components is discussed. The stationary operating behavior is analyzed by analytical calculations and by digital simulation and represented in graphical form. Furthermore, the effects on the mains caused by the system for braking operation are analyzed and compared to the conditions for motoring operation and/or to the conditions for feeding of the DC link by an uncontrolled rectifier bridge. An innovative integrated magnetic structure for the half-bridge power converter lumps all the magnetic components into one structure and reduces the number of magnetic terminations. By incorporating advanced hybrid power packaging with the proposed integrated magnetic technique, a preliminary hybrid module of 1.6\"/spl times/2.0\" footprint and 0.21\" height was developed. An overall efficiency (including the control circuit and power stage) of 90% was achieved for a 3.3 V, 100 W output operating at a 500 kHz switching frequency. The estimation scheme, based on flux linkage and line current estimation, is implemented in real-time by using the abc reference frame, and it is tested dynamically, The position estimation model of the test motor, development of hardware and basic operation of the DSP are discussed, The overall position estimation strategy is accomplished with a fast digital signal processor (TMS320C30). The method is a shaft position sensorless method that is applicable to a wide range of excitation types in brushless PM motors without any restriction on the motor model and the current excitation.
