Fifty (50) employees who work in these establishments participated in the research, directly handling food and animal by-products. The survey was conducted through a questionnaire, and the sampling method was non-probabilistic. The level of knowledge of good handling and manufacturing practices, food safety, microbiological contamination, cross-contamination and food poisoning was evaluated. Most respondents did not have any specific training, and those who did took more than six months to take refresher and / or improvement courses. According to the results of the research, it was possible to conclude that there is a deficiency within the sectors where there are professionals who handle these foods, especially regarding good handling practices. However, it was concluded that it is still necessary to implement and increase the inspection of these sectors to improve the safety and quality of products of animal origin.","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it plays extremely important role in preoperative assessments. Thus, the aim of the current study is to assess the results of preoperative blood counts performed in dogs kept in a municipal animal shelter in Zona da Mata Mineira region, who were subjected to sterilization. Blood samples of 63 male and female adult mongrel dogs kept in the aforementioned animal shelter were collected. Hematological analyses were performed at the Clinical Veterinary Laboratory of Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), based on standard laboratory procedures. Results were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), which was followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test carried out in the SPSS statistical software. Although the analyzed hematological parameters did not show statistically significant changes in comparison to reference values, several of them presented some abnormalities, as seen in the high standard deviation observed in the test results. Thus, 22 animals (34.9%) had anemia, most of them were classified as hypochromic microcytic cases; 25 animals (39.7%) had leukocytosis due to neutrophilia, whereas 3 animals (4.8%) had leukocytosis due to neutrophilia with regenerative left shift; 20 animals (31.7%) had eosinophilia; 8 animals (12.7%) had lymphopenia; 7 animals (11.1%) had monocytosis; and Revista Brasileira de Higiene e Sanidade Animal Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity ISSN: 1981-2965","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Summary: The objective of this work was to characterize the chemical bromatological composition of the acerola co - product before and after protein enrichment with the yeast of the species Sacharomyces cerevisae in semi - solid fermentation for animal feed. Four treatments were performed, the control containing the co-product in in natura form and the others containing 2% of yeast for treatment II; 2% of yeast plus 1% of urea forming treatment III and 2% of yeast plus 2% of urea for treatment IV which remained 24 hours at room temperature for 24 hours subjected in this period in semi-solid fermentation. The following results were obtained for crude protein: 9.85%; 17.91%; 43.11% and 59.06%, respectively. It was concluded that there was an efficacy of the process since similar and higher values were obtained than the conventional concentrate of the soybean used in the animals' diet. ________________________","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work was to evaluate which the mains risks may affect the students of Veterinary Medicine of a public university of Piauí state. The questionnaire application method was used which contained objective questions about the use of personal protective equipamento (PPE’s) and the possible injuries suffered. It was observed that 51% (77/150) of students suffered some type of injury during graduation, with the most frequent injuries being accidental representing 73% (56/77), followed by biological 17% (13/77) and chemicals 10 % (8/77). Among accidental injuries, the most frequent were bites and scratches, cuts and perforations, representing 47% (36/77), 20% (15/77) and 6% (5/77) of injuries respectively. Although 100% (150/150) reported using basic PPE's, 71% (106/150) reported never having received guidance or training on the correct use. It’s concluded that there was a high incidence of injuries in students of Veterinary Medicine, which demonstrates that occupational risks are a reality in this activity. In addition, it was found that it is necessary to implement health education measures for the proper use of PPE’s.","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
