The present paper assesses A . abstrusus infection in domestic and wild cats in south of Brazil. Fecal samples from 97 domestic cats and from seven wild cats ( Puma concolor , Puma yagouaroundi and Leopardus tigrinus ) were tested using sedimentation and flotation techniques. The prevalence of first-stage larvae was 2.1% (2/97) in domestic cats, and Puma yagouaroundi was the only wild cat that turned out to be positive for this lungworm. This is the first report of A. abstrusus in Puma yagouaroundi in Brazil. The identification of this parasite raises a red flag about the presence of infected intermediate and/or paratenic hosts and about the importance of this parasitic disease even in the absence of respiratory clinical signs. The analysis of fecal samples is then suggested for the detection of A . abstrusus .","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45659997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the contamination and proliferation of fungi in the microbiota of snakes in captivity, the concern for the welfare of these animals is great, since mycotic diseases in snakes can be fatal. The study sought to identify the fungal microbiota in the epidermis of B. atrox and to highlight which fungi are more prevalent in the dorsoventral region, as well as to determine whether the presence of the fungi is associated with the stage of life and the substrate where the snakes raised in the Amazonian Center are found. of Herpetology. The collection was carried out in 54 snakes, with the aid of a sterile swab, followed by sowing in petri dishes containing potato agar culture medium. Mycotic growth occurred in 6 days at room temperature. Slides were made for microscopic identification. The fungi identified colonizing the snakes were: Penicillium sp (29 samples), Aspergillus sp (27 samples), Phoma sp (1 sample), Rhizopus sp (2 samples). The puppies of the year 2017 presented a greater presence of fungi, than the puppies born in the year 2018. The newspaper as a substrate presented more fungi than the sawdust. The genera Penicillium sp and Aspergillus sp can cause pathologies such as penicilliosis and aspergillosis, in addition to spots on the epidermis and eyes. According to the results, it is suggested the application of antifungals on the snake's epidermis, in order to avoid future cases of fungal diseases.","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the objective was to identify more frequent abnormalities in semen samples from boars that failed, at an insemination center, in addition to exploring considerations about the disposal of breeders based on the morphological examination. To achieve this goal, semen was collected from 95 pigs and sperm morphology was evaluated. Among the 95 breeders that had their semen evaluated in the first collection, 78% had their semen approved and 22% failed. During the first semen collection, most of the sperm abnormalities (31.52 % ± 8.85) identified were distal (13.76 % ± 7.48) and proximal (11.95 % ± 6.72) cytoplasmic gout. The 21 breeders with failed samples in the first collection, were again evaluated and 19% failed (4 boars), the average recurrent abnormalities (33.75 % ± 2.38) were distal (14.25 % ± 1.92) and proximal (12.5 % ± 4.39) cytoplasmic gout. Through this study it was possible to observe that the morphological evaluation of sperm in swine farms is an extremely necessary tool to identify animals for selection and reproductive disposal. The repetition of the morphological examination in males that had their semen failed should be performed in order to avoid false conclusions.","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since it is a rare cutaneous disease, the aim of this work is to report a case of BHFD in a Pinscher dog, aging approximately 6 years old, in Fortaleza. The dog presented diffuse hypotrichosis in the dorsolateral, neck and limb regions since it was 8 months of age. Parasitological exams, fungal culture, dosage of thyroid stimulating hormones (TSH) and thyroxine (T4), trichogram and skin biopsy, for histopathological examination were performed. The results were negative for infectious, parasitic or endocrine diseases, and in association with macroscopic findings, the animal was diagnosed with BHFD. The treatment was based on the use of supportive therapy, an end to prevention the occurrence of secondary infections. It is concluded that BHFD is a dermatological condition present in the clinical routine, suggesting the attention of the Veterinarian in order to improve the identification of patients affected by the disease.","PeriodicalId":42229,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Hygiene and Animal Sanity","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71162541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
