Life at Zvanka from three angles: 1. Its relation to Horace’s II epode Beatus ille…. 2. The contrasting backdrop which is established in the first stanzas of the poem: the imperial court of Saint-Petersburg. 3. A further backdrop of this kind, which is implicit in the poem: a contemporary disdain for gentry landowners. In the light of Peter I’s reforms, their lifestyle was perceived as a backward relic of medieval Russia. From this point of view, Derzhavin’s idealized picture of country life is not only a criticism of court life, but also a didactic attempt to bring the country gentry’s way of life into accord with contemporary Russian culture: Zvanka was supposed to serve as a model to emulate.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69619933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The identification of the church of St. Nicholas, consecrated by him, with the Nikolo-Dvorishchensky Cathedral is proved, and the significance of this act for the new Prince Svyatoslav Olgovich is estimated. The article analyzes Nifont's refusal to marry Svyatoslav, showing that the reason for this lay in canonical problems with his and/or his wife’s previous marriage, but also that the archbishop’s position was not irreconcilable, which allowed this wedding to take place. Good relations between Nifont and Svyatoslav are also confirmed by a mutually beneficial ecclesiastical charter, which is proposed to be dated March-August 1137. Finally, an indication of their mutual amiability is analyzed in the entry of the Kiev Chronicle under 1156, and it is shown that the word “not” is lost in the motivation of this affection in the expression “because Syatoslav did sit [not] without him in Novgorod,” which allows to develop the already put forward hypothesis about Nifont’s role in the invitation of Svyatoslav to Novgorod. Probably, the archbishop met him during his ambassadorial visit to Kiev and Chernigov in the winter of 1135–1136, when the discontent of the Novgorodians with their Prince Vsevolod was already clearly manifested.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69620001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the fact that a thorough investigation of the crime had been carried out, and the perpetrators of the attack on the monastery had been punished severely, the relics of hegumen Adrian were never found at that time. They were discovered only 76 years later. As is turned out, pious serfs secretly buried Adrian’s remains near an abandoned church on the banks of the Ukhra River. They also planted a rowan tree, which became the object of worship among the villagers. Shortly before Adrian's relics were discovered, a monastery was founded near the sacred rowan. The monastery’s founder, hegumen Lavrentiy, was the main initiator of the search for the relics. Probably, Lavrentiy wrote the Tale about Finding the Relics of Venerable Martyr Adrian, in which he described the events in detail. However, by careful analyses of the text of the curios, the author concludes that the relics discovered in 1626 might not belong to Adrian. This is indicated by certain points in the narrative, which suggests that hegumen Lavrentiy was inclined to wishful thinking. The fact of finding the relics seems to be indisputable, but their identification is doubtful. Probably, the discovered relics did not belong to Adrian, but to an unknown monk who once lived in the area.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69620541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The manuscript has common features with the Christinopol Apostle of the 12th century. The original additions of the Apostle of Alexander Soltan show that its protograph was edited in the middle of the 12th century. The Apostle of Alexander Soltan, which was kept in Vilnius, was one of the sources for the Bible of Matthew the Tenth (1502–1507) and encouraged Matthew to add original margins and signs in his Bible. In the beginning of the 18th century the Apostle of Alexander Soltan fell into the hands of second-hand booksellers, and was divided by them into three parts. The author proposes certain amendments to previous publications of the marginalia, partially reconstructs their lost fragments, interprets some extralinguistic information that gives an idea of the name and occupations of the scribe, and linguistic data in the field of phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary in their connection with the corresponding phenomena of the main text of the parimeinik. The author concludes that the marginalia reflect some phonetic innovations present in the main text; their grammatical innovations, on the other hand, are not supported by the main text, the stability of which is due to the genre. At the lexical level, some units make it possible to supply Russian historical lexicography either with an earlier dating for the first fixation of a lexeme in written sources or with a new contextual combination.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69620252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article also discusses fundamental the prominent academic’s source studies and bibliographic studies, in the course of which he established and described the originals of hundreds and even thousands of translated texts that exist in Church Slavonic. These texts entered the bulk of literature accumulated by South and East Slavs in the period between the 9th and the first quarter of the 18th century. The discoveries of Francis Thomson are first of all reflected in his articles, of which more than one and a half hundred are published, and which are already highly appreciated in Slavistics. His discoveries are also fixed in his famous “cartotheca,” of which little was known, mainly from the words of its creator. This project was conceived first as a “clavis” to the repertoire of Slavic translated literature, but taking into account the rich information contained therein, we can state that it went far beyond its original purpose. The author of the handwritten “cartotheca” worked on it for fifty years, and, already during his lifetime, it turned into a kind of a legend among specialists. Currently, this opus magnum of the researcher is located at the Catholic University of Leuven (Louvain), where its net publication is being prepared. It can be said without exaggeration that further study of the translated literature of the medieval Slavs is unthinkable without taking into account the work of Francis Thomson.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69620364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the author describes this semantic complex within the framework of a functional-semantic field, which includes heterogeneous forms of repetition of an action, including some types of usage of perfective verbs. The approach used in this article raises the question of the semantic scope of iterativity, since the boundaries between the presence and absence of elements of repetition are in some cases vague. The following factors serve as the basis for the classification of iteratives: a) the nature of the limited / unlimited repetitiveness, b) the degree of localization of the action, associated with the length of the temporal interval between the different actions, c) whether the iterative meaning is developed under the influence of the context (derived iteration), or connected to the verbal semantics (internal verbal iteration), d) the basic position in relation to the aspectual meaning of the verb to which the repetitive meaning is related to.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69619734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jahrhunderts anhand des Ansatz es der „Begriff sgeschichte“. Eine Analyse der Quellen zeigt, dass mit der Verbreitung des Diskurses zum Thema Askese unter Beibehaltung der Grundbedeutung des “Priesters, der die Beichte abnimmt” dem Beichtvater allmählich asketische Anforderungen gestellt werden. Diese beziehen sich auf die klösterliche Tradition der geistlichen Führung, des Gehorsams und der Gedankenoffenbarung. Der Wandel der Erwartungen spiegelt weniger die gelebte Realität wider, sondern wird zu einer Art Zukunftsgestaltung. Ihre Besonderheit besteht aber darin, dass sie nicht mit der Idee des Fortschritts verbunden ist, sondern mit dem Versuch, die ursprüngliche und „verlorene“ Spiritualität wiederherzustellen - als Reaktion auf Modernisierung und Säkularisierung. Die im Laufe der Forschung gewonnene Bandbreite der Bedeutungen ermöglicht es, die Mehrdeutigkeit des Begriffs „Duhovnik“ in der modernen Praxis der russisch-orthodoxen Kirche zu erklären.","PeriodicalId":42189,"journal":{"name":"Slovene-International Journal of Slavic Studies","volume":"520 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69620688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
