Previous studies asserts that competitive advantage can be achieved by creating value( innovation), for the end customers, which is greater than that offered by competitors.The data used in this study work was primary. The data were generated by conducting a survey design with a well-structured questionnaire distributed among respondents within the scope of this study. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient, and regression analysis.It was deduced that competitive advantage and innovation strategy are both statistically significant to achieving high and persistent profitability level. Both variables are therefore needed by firms in other tom attain their goal and meet up with the need of their shareholder.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128285674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is the first study to investigate open innovation strategies of UK universities. The methodology used is an exploratory study based on semi-structured interviews of Pro-Vice-Chancellors (or equivalent level) of a variety of British Universities. Besides providing an overview of what Open Innovation means to different universities, as well as investigating the different Open Innovation strategies set up by universities, one of the key findings of this study relates to the ‘new’ role of universities, which are becoming a central actor within the Open Innovation ecosystem. As a result, universities should position themselves as Open Innovation hub, as they are a trusted intermediary through which collaborations can happen.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127090163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, we empirically investigate whether human resource related practices such as top management support and regularity of employees meetings are related to profit generated by the innovation activities. Using survey data of Montenegrin firms, we find that firms in which top management supports employees' idea and have regular employees meetings related to innovation activities are likely to report higher profit generated by innovations. Therefore, our results underline the crucial role of human resource practices in the process of innovation that generates profitability for firms.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125255895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Findings from a survey of IT projects of European steel producers (n=137) indicated a significant influence of readiness for change on the perception/acceptance of new IT solutions and employee commitment to related organisational changes whereas both contributed to the perception of overall project success. The findings of this study present statistical evidence for the positive contribution of organisational change practices in an early project phase for the successful realisation of IT projects from the perspective of organisational change and from the perspective of IT acceptance.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"27 25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115814153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a disposition, that has become a prevailing stereotype for the perceived uncertainty, leads us away from a productive solution to a number of pressing challenges to maintain economic safety and sustainable development. In opposition to this, in the paper, there is a thesis of administrative acceptability submitted for an academic discussion, methodological implementation of which is in line with a number of fundamental paradigms. It is a disclosure and systematization of uncertainty management principles that is a focus of the paper. The paper pays a special attention to an issue of perceived approaches to management, which have become traditional so far. There are also refined structural characteristics of the uncertainty functions and specifics of the management process.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133431996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One explanation is that they have not been in a form amenable for use in research. To help remedy this deficiency and foster research in the area of intellectual property, the Office of Chief Economist of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is releasing a series of datasets in formats convenient for researchers. This paper describes the USPTO Patent Assignment Dataset, a database of roughly 6 million assignments and other transactions recorded during the 1970-2014 period and affecting about 10 million patents or patent applications. Since these data have not been commonly used, we provide a comprehensive description and present stylized facts to facilitate understanding and to motivate future research. Despite some limitations inherent in the data, release of the Patent Assignment Dataset opens multiple avenues for original research, particularly in the areas of intellectual property collateralization and the markets for technology and innovation.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117325525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order for the Bitcoin network to function properly, people within the network need to follow the protocol and contribute computing power. However, selfish strategies can be used to disproportionately increase one’s payoff relative to their computational power. Three approaches are used to analyze selfish mining strategies in the Bitcoin network in order to determine when this strategy will dominate.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115729652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of course, Valve is not alone in pushing a “manager free” model. Zappos (owned by Amazon) is currently experimenting with a similar model they call “holacracy”, and moving further back in time there are such classic examples as W.L. Gore and Associates’ “lattice structure”, Oticon’s “spaghetti organization”, and Brazilian industrial products company, Semco. Nonetheless, Valve’s experiments are note worthy because they are ambitious, visible, and so far very successful.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125402863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Confusion arises because value creation can be reasonably defined in two different ways: (1) as the total economic value created by a firm within a specific interval of time, and (2) as the change in this value over longer intervals. To formalize the latter notion of value creation, we introduce the concept of economic gain, defined as the increase in economic surplus generated by the firm between one time period and another. We discuss the advantages of this concept and show that economic gain can arise through innovation and improvement or through the growth and replication of a superior firm. We complement these discussions with a formal measurement framework that quantifies economic gain from innovation and its distribution among stakeholders, including the firm’s shareholders, managers, employees, suppliers, and customers. As an empirical illustration, we apply the framework to compare value creation and distribution by Southwest Airlines and American Airlines between 1980 and 2010.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127943452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
