VC directors serving on the compensation committee are associated with greater CEO risk-taking incentives (i.e., vega) and greater pay-for-performance sensitivity (i.e., delta). These effects are more substantial if VC directors are from highly reputable VC firms. Using Regulation S-K requirements to disclose attributes of nominated directors as an instrument, we show that these results are causal. We also document that prior finding of greater research intensity and innovation when VC directors serve on boards of public firms are in part explained by the presence of increased risk-taking incentives of the CEO instilled by such directors. Lastly, we find that having VC directors on nominating and/or governance committees is associated with a higher likelihood of forced CEO turnover.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123027153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Services and data are already adding value to GVC, particularly manufacturing GVC. Global data flows and digital technologies such as cloud computing and AI enable growth in digitally enabled service exports and further opportunities to add value to manufacturing GVC. Moreover, services-only GVC are evolving as businesses use digital services and technologies sourced globally. • All countries have some comparative advantage in services and as GVC become increasingly services driven and rely on data, new opportunities for GVC participation by developing country and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), are emerging. As manufacturing GVC mature, served used are increasingly being sourced globally as business seek best-in-class inputs to maintain overall competitiveness. Yet, services trade barriers remain high – higher than for goods. In addition, countries are increasingly restricting global data flows and requiring data localization. There is also the risk that divergent standards in areas such as 5G, a technology which will underpin new digital services and GVC, will create additional barriers. Trade policy has an important role to play in supporting growth in services and data in GVC. Trade policy should also priorities addressing barrier to services trade and data flows. The failure of the WTO in further liberalizing services trade has had the perverse effect that for many countries services restrictions are becoming the key barriers to growing trade in manufactured goods. Services trade restrictions are also higher in developing countries, placing them at a disadvantage when it comes to participating in GVC.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127216672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An innovating firm risks cannibalizing its existing products. The more profitable these products, the more the firm wants to limit cannibalization. We apply this logic to the organization of R&D by introducing a novel theoretical model in which developing in-house provides the firm more control over the new product’s location in product space. An empirical analysis of our testable predictions using pharmaceutical data concerning patents, patent expiration, and outsourcing at various stages of the R&D process supports our theoretical findings.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130052861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, there is urgency among manufacturer has needed to implement IMS and to produce the environmentally friendly product. Manufacturers alone contributed to 18% of world carbon's emission (OICA, 2017). This study was focused on how environmental friendly manufacturing practices help to drive into the harmless product by a practice of IMS among auto-component manufacturers. The partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was performed to extend the environmental responsibility of auto-component manufacturers, their analysis result shows that the sustainable procurement (30.4%) and eco-product design (30.1%) are determined by the practice of corporate governance. Further, it is noted that the practice of waste management system (WMS) 30.4% with innovating tactics by the method of 3R's are recycled, reuse and recovered, again it pushed the product into the eco-product design (16.1%) and WMS influence environmentally responsible manufacturing process by 29.8%.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128500936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prior literature often considers the link between supervisors and employee performance in their current job. However, the attention is shifting towards potential management, and supervisors are increasingly responsible for the development of their employees’ potential and the guidance to a successful future career in the organization. Hence, this study provides the first empirical evidence on the role of the supervisor in employee potential development and retention. Using a theory-based measure of performance management skills, I demonstrate that employees of supervisors who are high in performance management skills have (1) a higher likelihood of promotion, (2) better performance in their new job upon promotion, and (3) are more likely to stay with the organization.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132503382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are few studies conducted to measure the influence of Project Management Performance (PMP) on Project Success (PS). Therefore, this paper aims to review the previous studies on the moderating impact of Organizational Culture (OC) and the mediating impact of Project Risk Management (PRM) and the correlation between PMP and PS. A rigorous review of the literature will be conducted to establish these relationships. As a result, this paper provides meaningful theoretical framework on PMP and its connection with project success. The findings would establish the nature of the relationship between PMP and PS as well as to determine the direct or indirect effects of OC and PRM on them. Also, further researches would be beneficial to fill the current research gap for future successful projects implementation. Because missing a single resource can foil the entire entry effort, we argue that bottleneck resources—those most difficult to obtain or sell externally—anchor the direction of firm growth. We characterize market resources as bottlenecks to product market entry, because they are (on average) more challenging to obtain and sell than technological resources, and we articulate why the importance of market resources varies with the strength of external markets for technology. Using cross-industry data linking firms’ product portfolios with patents, we find resource dynamics whereby market resources drive the strategic decision to enter, and firms fill technological gaps using both internal research and development and external acquisitions (joint ventures and alliances). Our study underscores the importance of resources for firm growth dynamics and specifically highlights market resources as the bottleneck that constrains and directs the direction of product market entry.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126561610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, we argue that the benefits from its implementation depend on internal and external characteristics of firms. The aim of this paper is to discuss for which firms the usage of DT should be more (or less) effective. To do so, we scrutinize the literature on contingency theory, which argues that the effectiveness of management policies depends on internal and external contingencies, and apply it to design thinking. We discuss three internal contingencies (strategy, culture, and structure) and two external contingencies (industry product differentiation and industry dynamism). First, we argue that DT is more effective in organizations where its internal contingencies fit well with the creative and collaborative nature of DT. Second, DT should be more beneficial in industries that require an understanding of customer preferences and frequent adaptations to environmental changes. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to provide the basis for future empirical research that takes into account the contingent nature of design thinking.","PeriodicalId":419336,"journal":{"name":"Management of Innovation eJournal","volume":"116 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114000525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
