Research Design & Methods : A retrospective analysis of the economic and social development of the states in question is conducted. It takes into account the implementation of digitalisation and use of medium-term budget planning. A ranking method is used to display the change in the rank of the states in 2019 vs 2009. It employs the following indicators: gross domestic product at current prices, gross domestic product per capita at current prices, unemployment, national income, total expenditure of public administration, and the network readiness index. Findings : The research makes it possible to draw conclusions about the need to create conditions for digitalisation in Ukraine. The ability to use digital resources has proven effective during the COVID-19 pandemic. More generally, we assessed the macroeconomic effect by assessing the impact of investment in digital technologies and digital infrastructure on GDP, as well as by assessing productivity growth through digitalisation. According to the estimates cited in this article, the share of the digital economy in the GDP of the world’s largest countries in 2030 will reach 50–60%. In Ukraine, the figure may run even higher, to 65% of GDP (in the implementation of the forced scenario of the digital economy in Ukraine). Implications / Recommendations : Based on the conducted research, two scenarios for the development of digitalisation in Ukraine are put forward: 1) accelerated digitalisation and 2) gradual digitalisation. If scenario 2 is implemented, Ukraine’s economy will remain inefficient, labour migration and brain drain will continue, and Ukrainian products will become less competitive in foreign markets. Ukraine will remain in the backyard of civilisation. Scenario 1 envisages the transition of the Ukrainian economy to a digital one in 3–5 years. Under the implementation of the forced scenario, by 2030 Ukraine will become a European leader in innovation and new technologies, and an intellectual hub. Contribution : The research conducted by the authors will allow to establish the main directions of development of the digitalisation of Ukraine’s economy on the basis of European experience, while the proposed development scenarios will help to create the most attractive conditions in the region for the development of human potential.","PeriodicalId":417291,"journal":{"name":"Zeszyty Naukowe Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115932605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research Design & Methods : An extensive range of scientific literature on the issues of family businesses was analysed. Particular attention was paid to the ways of defining family businesses, assessing their role in the economy, mechanisms of their transformation over time, and their tendency to associate into larger economic and legal entities. Over 90 publications were analysed, about half of which are foreign-language texts, including western ones as well as texts representing the assessments of research from such countries as the UAE and India. Findings : Some of the most comprehensive and useful definitions of family businesses are listed, while the need to formally include large enterprises and corporations in the category of family enterprises is indicated. The important role of family businesses in the creation of Gross Domestic Product is underlined. The tendency of family businesses to organise themselves into larger legal and economic entities is indicated. The most important Polish institutions which deal with the issues of family businesses are listed. The impact of succession mechanisms and intergenerational transformation of a family businesses are shown. The average period of its existence in Poland and in the world is estimated. The main factors influencing the longevity of family enterprises are identified. The reasons for the gradual disappearance of “family features” in family businesses (e.g. transformation into a joint-stock company or creation of a conglomerate holding) are indicated. The validity of further research is justified. Implications / Recommendations : Little is known about the Polish, European and world rankings of the oldest family enterprises described in the article. Such research is worth continuing. Contribution : Including large family companies in the research, the paper searches for the reasons behind the declining family character of family businesses. These include the transformation of a family business into a listed joint-stock company or the establishment of a holding – in particular a conglomerate, as well as family problems.","PeriodicalId":417291,"journal":{"name":"Zeszyty Naukowe Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie","volume":"71 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126102757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study focuses on HR managers’ assessments of the labour market, recruitment opportunities for new employees, and competence requirements for candidates. Research Design & Methods : The article presents the results of qualitative research (focus group interviews – FGI) conducted among 80 employees of HR departments (managers) of various organisations located in eight large cities in Poland. Findings : The managers pointed to increasing difficulties in finding competent employees, the gap between formal and non-formal education and the needs of employers, as well as job candidates’ poorly developed social skills. Implications / Recommendations : The industries surveyed are experiencing great difficulties in recruiting employees for specific positions, particularly experts. Contribution : The mismatch of the supply of competences and the labour market’s expectations, as well as the high saturation characterising the market, are preventing organisations from staffing appropriately.","PeriodicalId":417291,"journal":{"name":"Zeszyty Naukowe Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128357789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
