Research Design & Methods : The article is based on a critical analysis of the literature with a view to understanding the current state of use of blockchain technology in agriculture. It was assumed that blockchain technology is used in the agricultural sector to promote food security, prevent food fraud and verify the origin and authenticity of agricultural products and agricultural inputs. Findings : Blockchain technology improves traceability and transparency, allowing parties within the agricultural value chain to identify faulty or suboptimal processes as well as bad actors. This ensures that ideal conditions are pursued from farm to market. The ability to trace the origin of food products is essential when food safety breaks down. The early identification of the origin of contamination will enable food companies to swing into action quickly to prevent illness and thus save lives. Such a timely response will also help limit food wastage and will save money by containing financial fallout. Implications / Recommendations : Blockchain technology has strong potential for success within the agricultural sector. It can be used to ensure food safety by enabling the source of agricultural products, as well as the source of their potential contamination, to be traced, and the authenticity of farming inputs to be verified. Blockchain can also be employed in the process of disbursing subsidies to farmers to ensure that they benefit from subsidy programmes. Finally, blockchain technology will offer farmers better prices and better payment methods and solve challenges in land title sales and purchase registration. Contribution : Blockchain is a new technology to the agricultural sector, and enormous challenges remain. There is still no established system to regulate blockchain transactions. {"title":"Investment Decisions and Their Impact on Job Creation at Energy Sector Enterprises in Poland","authors":"Konrad Kolegowicz, Wojciech Szymla","doi":"10.15678/znuek.2022.0996.0201","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15678/znuek.2022.0996.0201","url":null,"abstract":"Objective: The main objective of the research was to confirm the existence of a relationship between the investment outlays energy companies make and the number of workers they employ. The existence of this relationship would indicate the presence of a correlation between investment outlays and jobs created. Research Design & Methods: The objects of the research were energy companies operating in Poland divided into size classes (small, medium, large). To confirm the assumed research hypothesis, the rate of change of two quantities – capital expenditures and number of employees – was analysed in equivalent periods and taking into account the delay effect (t + 1). The study Konrad Kolegowicz, Wojciech Szymla 12 of the relationship between quantities was done with correlation analysis. Linear regression analysis was used to simultaneously determine the level of interdependence of variables R2 and the Pearson coefficient. Findings: The results confirmed significant variation in the development over time of the two quantities, as well as their mutual relations divided into size classes of enterprises. The correlation analysis showed a low degree of interdependence in small and medium-sized enterprises and a high level in large ones. However, the negative direction of this interdependence in large enterprises was a surprise. Implications / Recommendations: The research results indicate that the high investment intensity in the energy sector results in an increase in the automation of manufacturing activities but does not necessarily involve changes in human resources. However, these relations may be differentiated by enterprise size classes. Contribution: The article contributes to the knowledge base on measures of enterprise development and the relationships between them. It could provide a methodological basis for conducting similar research in other industrial sectors. {"title":"The Right of Reflection and Comparison in Mortgage Loan Agreements according to Directive 2014/17/UE and Its Recent Implementation in Spanish Legislation","authors":"Esther Hernández Sainz","doi":"10.15678/znuek.2019.0984.0603","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15678/znuek.2019.0984.0603","url":null,"abstract":"Objective : This article analyses and critically assesses the new Spanish rules regarding the consumer’s right of reflection previous to concluding a credit agreement for residential immovable property. It also looks at how it makes consumer protection more effective. Research Design & Methods : The article is based on, first, a critical analysis of the Spanish regulation and the existing literature and, second, on a comparison between the European and the Spanish regulation of this institution. Findings : Directive 2014/17/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 February 2014 on credit agreements for consumers relating to residential immovable property obliges Member States to specify a time period of at least seven days during which the consumer will have sufficient time to compare offers, assess their implications and make an informed decision before entering into a credit agreement. Following a lengthy delay, the Directive was implemented in Spanish legislation on 15 March, through Law 5/2019 on credit agreements relating to residential immovable property. The Directive admits the right of reflection to be articulated as a period of reflection before a credit agreement is concluded, as a period of withdrawal after the conclusion of the credit agreement or a combination of the two. Spanish legislation has chosen the first option but it does not fully respect all the requirements of the Directive. Implications / Recommendations : A period of reflection prior to the conclusion of a mortgage loan agreement is an essential instrument for consumer self-protection because it allows consumers to analyse pre-contractual information in depth, to compare offers, to assess the implications of each offer, and to make an informed decision. It likewise benefits banks and other lenders because it reduces consumer claims, and even benefits the mortgage loan market itself as it increases overall competence. Adequate regulation of this right is essential to sufficiently protect borrowers.
