Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been associated with an aggressive cellular behavior, resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy in many types of neoplasms, and a strong correlation between prominin-1 (CD133) expression in cancer stem cells from different types of cancer exist. A discussion is presented on recent immunotherapeutic strategies that target CD133 in breast CSCs. The antibody against the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) represents one of the advances in the management of colorectal and head and neck cancer. The effects caused by this mediciation at the cutaneous level used to limit its use, since as its effectiveness is dose-dependent, doses had to be modified, and there was also poor physical and cosmetic tolerance by the patients. Two tools were used to assess these variables: Coping Questionnaire for adolescents 3, the standardized version of the general form of Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory, and a semi-structured interview.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>A descriptive statistical analysis was performed on the results of the 2 tools, with a qualitative analysis for the interview. The most commonly used strategy was Religion, while Impotence and self-harm were the least frequent. This may be due to the value of the body and life in these adolescents. The adolescents reported a medium Quality of Life. This process produces changes in the cytoskeleton of the tumour cells, with the loss of E-cadherin and the acquisition of N-cadherin being the main biochemical changes of the EMT. This study investigates the role of epidermal growth factor (EGF) on the EMT induction in breast cancer cell lines and primary cultures.</p></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><p>MCF-7 cell line and the primary cultures MBCDF and MBCD25 were used in this study. EMT was induced by continuous EGF treatment. Mesenchymal EGF-induced phenotype was evaluated by Western blot of the following markers: pSTAT3, STAT3, repression of E-cadherin, and expression of Snail.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Our results demonstrate that EGF treatment induced STAT3 phosphorylation without changes in STAT3 in MBCDF, MBCD25 and MCF-7. Additionally, EGF treatment induced EMT, as shown by the loss of E-cadherin and Snail expression after 5 days.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>EGF was able to induce EMT in primary breast cancer cell cultures, MBCDF, MBCD25, as well as MCF-7 cell line. Between 10% and 20% of bilateral ovarian tumours are considered to be metastatic disease. They can be divided into non-Krukenberg metastatic tumours or Krukenberg tumours, each of which can have particular characteristics regarding age of presentation and prognosis. Histopathological diagnosis can be a real challenge, which will require of special immunohistochemistry stains to identify the primary tumour site. It is not possible to define a treatment protocol for these patients, since the multiple primary sources of neoplasms and its diverse extension hinder this, leading to a poor prognosis at the time of diagnosis. The most frequent histologic types are leiomyosarcoma and liposarcoma. The primary pleomorphic undifferentiated sarcoma of kidney is a rare variant and it has a poor prognosis, with around 60 cases described in the literature up to date. Distress can be a normal and adaptive reaction from patients experiencing an oncologic illness, but it can also hinder psychological adjustment and, in some cases, can lead patients to psychopathological disorders. Psychological interventions as well as other different treatment modalities are usually used to reduce distress symptoms and to improve quality of life of cancer patients. Many studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of music therapy in the medical and oncologic settings.
