The main aim was to determine if the fulfillment of the Educational Objectives increases as the number of years of graduation increases. To achieve the research objective, a data collection instrument was developed and validated, for which its reliability was verified through a pilot survey. Then, the approved survey was applied to alumni who graduated in the last four years and the collected data was processed by using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The process included a reliability analysis with Cronbach’s alpha, a principal component analysis with varimax rotation, and a nonparametric analysis for k unpaired samples. It was found that the dimensions identified in the Educational Objectives make up three components, and that the fulfillment of Educational Objectives does not change depending on the number of years of graduation.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125537663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Universities were not the exception. Most administrators struggle to redesign higher education for a postCOVID world university. During the pandemic, however, many of the face-face courses turned to virtual, giving rise to or incrementing inequalities among students due to lack of equipment and network connectivity could affect their academic performance. This paper brings together evidence from various data sources and the most recent studies to describe what we know so far about the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on inequalities across several key domain factors, including the availability of equipment and connectivity could affect their academic performance. The paper explores the effect of connectivity on the academic performance of our chemical and engineering students based on (i) the location of the home, (ii) the equipment, (iii) the type of connectivity, (iv) the number of people with those in which the equipment is shared and (v) online attendance at classes, finding that the ones with the greatest impact are the lack of synchronous attendance at class, the equipment, and internet connectivity.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130181095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding the productive leadership, it was possible to see that the USA maintains the most significant number of documents, obtaining an effective leadership of its 132 papers, in 81.06%, followed by England and China. According to the type of collaboration, it was observed that the institutional cooperation is the one that obtained the highest production, showing that the authors tend to make most of the documents on the selected topic with other authors from the same institution. The Computer and Education journal was the one that made the most significant number of records (231), followed by the International Journal of Engineering Education (124), and through Bradford‘s law, the first journal was the only one found in the core of specialization by topic addressed; in addition, 2,031 keywords (author keywords and keywords Plus) were found in the 621 documents analyzed, which were developed by 1,675 authors.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128179201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While these abilities are required to be developed in the curricula of the engineering programs, the dropout rate of the courses of programming in which these abilities are developed continues to increase. Several factors such as socioeconomic, the lack of support by the academic staff, or the teaching methodology are claimed of the most common dropout factors. In this context, this article proposes a methodology to learn to program embedded devices employing Arduino and Raspberry Pi in a course known as open hardware. Some identified factors in the students who took the course such as the lack of motivation and confidence in programming abilities were the catalysts to create and deploy the educational methodology. In addition, physical computing was incorporated as a conceptual pillar in the methodology. N=20 engineering students of a technological program in electronics participated in the methodology for 16 weeks. The methodology had a special emphasis on problem-solving, construction of algorithms, their interaction with sensors, motors, displays, etc., and teamwork. The results of the methodology show that it served to improve the abilities in programming, the understanding of the algorithms in embedded systems, the motivation, and it promoted habits such as the comments in the codes and the creation of flow diagrams that helped the students to comprehend the algorithms and their interaction with the hardware devices.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"194 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131780995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similarly, it has been also necessary to advance in the curricular innovation of graduate programs but with an incipient orientation to the industrial sector. Thus, this paper provides a synthesis of the process of curriculum design of a doctorate program in engineering, as a consortium initiative of three very prestigious Chilean public universities (La Frontera, Bío-Bío, and Talca), where the main emphasis of this program was put on the industry, as a way to contribute to the increase of R&D in developing countries. As a result, this paper seeks to present an engineering doctoral program implemented in a developing country, and which have been the most important lessons learned from its creation until today.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130175038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A proposal for an improvement plan (PPM) of the university academic-pedagogical management was designed, particularly in the line of action of teaching management, related to the processes of improvement and follow-up of teaching performance and development. For this purpose, the case study was a public university engineering program with an organizing committee, in which the Student Outcomes (SOs) measured and evaluated were linked to key diagnostic and performance indicators (KPIs), showing average compliance of 23.04% in the comprehensive training of students, 41.46% and 16.9% in level 2 processes, respectively. The assessment and evaluation of the SOs set a goal of 70%, but the measurement of performance in several SOs did not reach this goal, which is associated with teaching management processes at levels 0,1,2, and 3, with an average of 55.6% high risk of non-compliance. For this reason, based on the action-research, systemic, process management, agile methodology (design thinking), and logical framework approach, the subprocesses of performance and development of teaching management in an engineering program were investigated, focused on the ICACIT accreditation model version 3.2: criterion 4. Faculty, concluding in a PPM of 15 improvement opportunities identified and prioritized, framed in the university institutionalization and programs, implementation of a sustainable system of measurement and improvement of the SOs, specialized area and center for development and improvement of teaching, comprehensive system of teacher evaluation, strengthening of management, climate, culture and organizational development, appropriate management of human talent, teacher recognition, among others.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132173226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whilst placements can be transformative for many students, for others they can be less valued and appear like little more than a period of unskilled and unsupervised labour with little guidance and outcomes that are much less than might be desirable or possible. Lessons can potentially be learnt from other disciplines where placements are more heavily structured and supervised, often in a controlled learning environment. These observations led to the development of the Jacaranda Flame Consulting program at the University of Sydney, where students undertake a 6-12-week placement within a supervised industry-like consulting environment. This engineering program also provided an opportunity to capture detailed reflections from participants on their experiences. We report on an analysis of these reflections and what they tell us about the student learnings, particularly in terms of their growth through the program.","PeriodicalId":413670,"journal":{"name":"2022 International Symposium on Accreditation of Engineering and Computing Education (ICACIT)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133766173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
