It looks at the perspectives of faculty and students relative to key teaching and learning concerns. The paper analyzes the discussion of faculty at a retreat and a follow-up focus group with students. The analysis of faculty and student reflections is triangulated with a literature review of the relevant pedagogical theory and practice. The pedagogical research focuses on the area of blended residential/online delivery of graduate professional programs in Canada and around the world. ©Journal of Professional Communication, all rights reserved.","PeriodicalId":41240,"journal":{"name":"Fachsprache-Journal of Professional and Scientific Communication","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85002435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work environment can be a powerful tool through which to communicate information about the organization and its values to both employees and the outside world. In 2013, the sale of part of its business prompted leading healthcare partner Sanofi Canada to relocate its headquarters. Moving from closed “silo” offices, to a state of the art open-plan work environment, Sanofi Canada achieved meaningful change in its work culture in a very short period of time: a companywide survey undertaken four months into life at their new headquarters revealed satisfied and engaged employees who were taking advantage of new technology and embracing new opportunities to collaborate.  ©Journal of Professional Communication, all rights reserved.","PeriodicalId":41240,"journal":{"name":"Fachsprache-Journal of Professional and Scientific Communication","volume":"11 3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2015-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90391842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(Martin, 2009). The reviewer makes the case that public relations and communications management has been structured around Grunig’s Excellence theory. The reviewer suggests that the new fact that digital communications has elevated the status of the communications in many organization, positioning it as a key management function. In light of this, reviewer argues that the most provocative answer would be that public relations can or should attempt to adopt strategy as a core responsibility; appropriating the function from other disciplines, and demonstrating that this specific form of positioning and repositioning is one of our professional competencies.  ©Journal of Professional Communication, all rights reserved.","PeriodicalId":41240,"journal":{"name":"Fachsprache-Journal of Professional and Scientific Communication","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75238370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Certainly music has a relatively long history of cross-fertilization with science, not least because of its obvious mathematical qualities, but also because of the medium-term relationship between music and technology. In formal music studies though, the medium of music was generally considered indivisible from itself, even as mathematical models were used to justify certain theories. Film also has a similar, if somewhat less precisely formalized history, as evidenced by the long history of montage film and visual music. Other fine arts have had less clear relationships with science. This can no longer be said to be the case. Artists are collaborating with biologists, computer scientists, geographers and researchers from other far-flung disciplines. Similarly scientists are learning the value that artists can bring to a project in terms of creativity and “ways of seeing” (Berger, 1972, 1). On-going discipline-centric resistance based on adherence to traditional barriers between the (subjective) arts and the (objective) sciences continues to be prevalent; however, it is fair to say that the gulf between art and science that has widened since the Enlightenment has now been widely challenged by a body of scholars, artists and scientists. ©Journal of Professional Communication, all rights reserved.","PeriodicalId":41240,"journal":{"name":"Fachsprache-Journal of Professional and Scientific Communication","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2014-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73613193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To perform a specific task, a robot is given instructions. This process is referred to as robot programming and can be approached in several ways. In online/teach programming, an operator controls the robot using a teach pendant and leads it through its task. This is recorded and can be replayed. In offline programming, instructions are pre-written in a programming language on a separate computer and then sent to the robot for execution. Referencing the field of computer music, this paper explores an alternative approach – live programming. Here, instructions are written and edited on-the-fly, triggering immediate robotic responses. As a proof of concept, the music synthesis software Max/MSP is extended with robot programming functionalities and used as a live environment to control a robotic folding process. This paper describes the development of a Max/MSP patch for folding aluminum strips and discusses the results of its use. ©Journal of Professional Communication, all rights reserved.","PeriodicalId":41240,"journal":{"name":"Fachsprache-Journal of Professional and Scientific Communication","volume":"145 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2014-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72499233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, technological innovations could facilitate many things that are not new by rather making existing processes better or cheaper in ways that might alter the situation meaningfully. Second, technology can change art through the more profound revision of the role of artist and art-perceiver (Fineberg, 2006). This article examines several examples of how the music industry has been impacted by new technology: Radiohead Rainbows, slicethepie.com, Ditto Music, Music Rainbow, YouTube Orchestra, micro-chunking and LiveFi.
