A quantitative analysis of the dictionaries is made, with special attention paid to the selection of the vocabulary included in them. The specific features of the appendices placed at the end of the dictionaries are discussed. This study was conducted among 1st and 2nd year students from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM), vocational field 5.10 “Chemical Technology”. This paper is the continuation of a previous experiment conducted by the authors, and concerning the study of thesaurus and development of language competences among students from engineering specialties. The present study was conducted during the past academic year at the UCTM. A multilingual educational tool was developed and applied in order to support and improve the learning process in specialized foreign language classes. {"title":"Pitch Contours of the Russian Polar Question by Bulgarian Speakers of Russian","authors":"Tatiana Aleksieva","doi":"10.53656/for22.408tona","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53656/for22.408tona","url":null,"abstract":"The prosody of the Russian language is the most difficult aspect even for Bulgarian university graduates in Russian language studies. The aim of this paper is to determine the pitch contours Bulgarian students use when asking yes-no questions in Russian. The materials include samples of mini dialogues in Russian and Bulgarian. Six Bulgarian native speakers were recorded reading the dialogues. The pitch accents and intonation patterns in the recording of each Bulgarian student were compared with dialogue readings by native speakers. The sound files were analyzed acoustically and labelled manually in Praat using ToRI. {"title":"The Black Monk of Emilian Stanev and his Gothic Brethren","authors":"Ognyan Kovachev","doi":"10.53656/for22.431cern","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53656/for22.431cern","url":null,"abstract":"Emiliyan Stanev’s unfinished short novel The Black Monk still remains on the margins of his oeuvre, and also of research interest on the part of Bulgarian literary studies. On the other hand, the plot and the eponymous character fit it into a wide network of works by English, German, French, Russian and other authors, in the traditions of Gothic, Romanticism, Realism and their varieties, where the ‘Black Monk’ motif is a locus communis. I call the potential of such loci communes to form sets of works partially connected by separate, often contextually undetermined threads, polyvalent intertextuality. Comparing through it works by different authors, from different genres and nationalities, I come to the conclusion that their interaction can be described, in terms such as de- and reterritorialization (Deleuze and Guattari), as rhizomatic and gothic. The derivational patterns under consideration are much more productive in Bulgarian, but the aspectual properties of predicates impose significant constraints on their combinability with inchoative prefixes in both languages. Wegen ihrer interdisziplinären Besonderheit ist sie ein ideales Format zur Vertiefung der sprachlichen und kommunikativen Kompetenzen und zum Erwerb von Fachwissen über das Wesen der Werbung, über Gesellschaft, Kultur und Mentalität. Werbung kann die Neugier auf das Zielsprachenland und seine Bewohner wecken, motivieren, Emotionen hervorrufen, Gelegenheiten zum Sprechen und Schreiben schaffen und kulturelle Besonderheiten analysieren. Sie ist deshalb so interessant und ergiebig für die Wissensvermittlung, weil sie sprachliche, ästhetische, soziale und wirtschaftliche Themen miteinander verknüpft.
