A pesar de los avances en el acceso a las instituciones y a la participación creciente de personas de diversos grupos sociales, persisten desigualdades en la calidad institucional y los programas. El cierre de los establecimientos educativos, motivado por la emergencia sanitaria, afectó la vida académica de millones de estudiantes, perjudicando todavía más a quienes ya estaban en desventaja antes de la pandemia. Las escuelas han tenido que diseñar formas de recuperar los aprendizajes perdidos durante el largo periodo en el que se recurrió a la enseñanza remota. En la primera parte se definen los conceptos “democratización”, “inclusión excluyente” y “estrategias institucionales de retención”, y se caracteriza a las universidades del conurbano bonaerense. Several factors explain why it was only after gaining a certain temporal and emotional distance that historians were able to write a more scientifically objective history of universities and students. It was not until the middle of the 19th century that students, who were strictly controlled by the state and the Catholic Church until 1859, were able to emerge as an independent group of actors. The multitude of associations founded according to the ideal model of the German fraternities were subject to a highly ideological polarisation process. This also extends to the professoriate of the university, which was belatedly established as an autonomous institution. Therefore, the history and humanities departments in particular became the forerunners of a nationalist antisemitic ideology rather than rationally scientific critical instances. It is thus primarily concerned with the period that is referred to in university history research as the “classical phase” (Peter Moraw). After an overview of fundamental questions about the era, it gives an overview of the history of student fraternities, whose importance cannot be overestimated. However, since student history is not limited to fraternity history, it then describes the relationship between student and fraternity history since the 19th century as a kind of elective affinity. In this context, particular attention is paid to the not always easy relationship between professional researchers and laypersons interested in student history, often members of student fraternities. The following part is devoted to the “Sonderweg theory” in student history, i.e., the thesis that student fraternities were a particularly characteristic form of expression of the “German Sonderweg”. Finally, the last part deals in detail with more recent tendencies in student historiography since the late 1990s, especially on Catholic student life, student violence, Jewish students and anti-Semitism, as well as female students and gender-historical approaches. As an important desideratum, genuine cultural aspects of student history are identified. This interest has been even weaker with regard to students, a situation that only began to change at the beginning of the twenty-first century. However, pioneering work could have launched a research dynamic from the 1980s onwards, as the first part of this article shows and explains. In its second part, this paper analyzes the main themes addressed by the historiography of students in France.
