The author is not satisfied with exalting the king, his detailed account is an exceptional testimony about the strategic development of a late army in the countryside and a unique document to know the structure and behavior of the Visigothic armies; as well as the ceremonial associated with war and victory.","PeriodicalId":40819,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Antigua","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43824030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amiano Marcelino y los persas","authors":"Gabriel Sanz Casasnovas","doi":"10.14201/SHHA201836187220","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.14201/SHHA201836187220","url":null,"abstract":"Desde la I Guerra Romano-Parta hasta la batalla de Ninive, Roma y Persia combatieron en Oriente durante casi setecientos anos. Es bien sabido hasta que punto los escritores romanos perpetuaron estereotipos antiguos que representaban a los persas como barbaros inferiores. Los investigadores modernos, sin embargo, han defendido que Amiano Marcelino, miles quondam et Graecus, construyo una imagen matizada de los persas sasanidas merced a su experiencia directa sobre el terreno: los persas, despues de todo, no serian barbaros para Amiano. El objetivo de este articulo es analizar los mecanismos literarios de las Res gestae con intencion de demostrar que Amiano, en realidad, percibio, tipifico y represento a los persas como barbaros. Medi, Parthi y Persae suscitan miedo y ansiedad en nuestro autor, quien aplica la palabra ‘barbari’ a los persas en dos pasajes de su obra: Amm. XXIII, 5, 2 y XXIV, 3, 4. Mas aun: Amiano atribuye a los persas un origen escita, y los representa como barbaros a traves de lexico peyorativo y heteroimagenes degradantes.","PeriodicalId":40819,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Antigua","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43701808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve that it is proposed a critical reading of Pausanias’ descriptions of his visits to three imperial Greek cities: Tegea, Patras, and Corinth. These three examples are considered as showing in a particularly clear way a disagreement between the author’s Hellenism, which is the universalist imaginary framework from which the local is visited and known in the Perigesis, and the memories, identities, and cult practices, which apparently are particularities of those local places. However, a deeper analysis allows us to notice that apparently particular phenomena are quite evident signs that the localities in which they are inserted are deeply traversed by the global phenomenon of the empire. It is sought here, then, to show how, although Pausanias wants discursively to erase from his work the imperial historical reality, this reality emerges in any case in his text because the empire itself has become a space of intense cultural exchange between global tendencies and local experiences.","PeriodicalId":40819,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Antigua","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2018-12-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47661452","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
