The aim of our study is to provide insights into the salient e-business adoption issues by focusing on Saudi Arabian businesses. We developed a conceptual model for electronic business (e-business) adoption incorporating nine factors. Survey data from 550 businesses were used to test the model and hypotheses. The findings of the study suggest that firm's technological readiness, top management Support, technology orientation, consumer readiness, trading partner readiness and regulatory support are important facilitators of e-business adoption. In addition, the study finds that, competitive pressure and organisational customer and competitor orientation is not a predictor for e-business adoption. The implications of the findings are discussed and suggestions for future inquiry are presented.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124868505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This necessitates erection of virtual campuses to accommodate classes and sessions conducted within these worlds. However, sparse research exists that explores users' satisfaction from buildings used within these 3DVLEs. Furthermore, no research exists that discusses contentment levels of users specifically towards 3D educational facilities, or users' preferences and requirements from buildings' different constructional and architectural design elements. This research investigates the presence of such impact of architectural features of 3D virtual educational buildings and classrooms on users' comfort within them, by recording, analyzing and categorizing higher education students' and staff's design preferences and propositions to enhance virtual campus' learning spaces, internally and externally. This has potential to boost e-learning experiences within 3DVLEs analogous to the positive effect of physical real-life architecture on students' learning within their respective classrooms.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130604649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) constitute a unique case in this matter. Efficient information gathering, storage and retrieval coupled with effective inter-organizational communication allows SMEs to streamline their processes, reduce costs and time, improve productivity and even win new business opportunities more effectively. Among the content and knowledge management solutions offered, few are specifically targeted at the needs of SMEs. This case study illustrates how LTC's pioneering approach concretely contributed to the improvement of cooperation and information flow between departments and across the company as a whole. Expertise in collaborative innovation and the help of cutting-edge technology led to a solution that has the potential to help overcome KM challenges of SMEs across most industry sectors.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116461942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solution must overcome a very tight budget, severe restrictions on data access due to security concerns, and a tradition of using conventional legacy tools for primary reporting. We propose a method that minimizes both the ETL (Extract Transform Load) and data warehousing components of the solution and allows for agile development and incremental adoption. This is achieved by taking advantage of the organization's current legacy reporting structure as the basis and then building a BI reporting layer on top for a high level view of the information. Our methodology has demonstrated benefits in the form of reduced complexity, reduced risk, reduced cost in both time and money, and a solution that provides a greater return on investment.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"8 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116788042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quantity based discounts provide a huge incentive to form coalitions and take advantage of lower prices without ordering more than buyers' actual demand. By forming a coalition, buyers can also improve their bargaining power and negotiate more advantageously with sellers to purchase at a lower price. One way to reduce the cost is to take into account the complementarities between items provided by the sellers. By holding a combinatorial reverse auction, the total cost to acquire the required items will be significantly reduced due to complementarities between items. We propose the concept of proxy buyer to consolidate the demands from the buyers and hold a reverse auction to acquire the goods from sellers. The problem is to determine the winners to minimize the total cost for the proxy buyer. The main results include: (1) a problem formulation for the combinatorial reverse auction problem; (2) a solution methodology based on Lagrangian relaxation and (3) analysis of numerical results based on our solution algorithms.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134538112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An analysis of the processes and results of the expert review of the web-based application is presented. The owners of the system implemented the recommendations of this expert review to resolve system issues. Through two rounds of expert evaluations, system modifications were made based on recommendations from the initial expert review. The concern that usability evaluations are used as a ‘cure-all solution’ to demonstrate to users that system owners are trying to resolve issues with the system is discussed. It should be understood by all those involved in the development and implementation of applications that usability evaluations are unlikely to provide the claimed benefits when issues are beyond the scope of the web-based application. Rather, in these cases a review of the overall business process in order to have a genuine positive impact is required.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133217617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the possibility of classifying characters when viewed by subjects in single trials using single-channel EEG waveforms of the frontal area (Fz) and the occipital area (Oz) of the brain. All EEG data were smoothened, the first 20 trials for each character were used for calibration, and the remaining trials were assigned to the test data set. Feature vectors for each trial were created as EEG waveforms from 100 up to 800 msec. after the stimuli was shown. To extract features of waveforms, the regression relationship between EEG and ERP waveforms was used to transform observed signals. As a result, the performance of cross validation rates of the test data set increased incrementally during the perceptual process, for both Fz and Oz, when the predicted waveforms were measured using the regression relationship. Also, the effectiveness of the prediction using the regression relationship for the classification performance of viewed characters was determined during the perceptual process. This provides evidence that a procedure using the relationship between EEG and ERP is effective in predicting viewed characters.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133133008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is well known that blocking artifacts in DCT-video codec based video conferencing system becomes prominent on low bandwidths due to block-based processing. Wavelet technology is increasingly being popular for high quality blocking artifact-free compression suitable for low bandwidth channels. Despite the advantages, there are not many wavelet based video codecs and their use in a real-time video conferencing has been limited owing to the nonavailability of an embedded real-time solution. This paper presents the architectural design of a wavelet technology-based video conferencing system, the method of converting a wavelet based video codec Dirac into its embedded plug-in, and the process of embedding Dirac into Openphone (SIP based video conferencing system). A prototype system has been successfully implemented and tested.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133339382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, as with any other application, a well informed development methodology increases the efficiency and helps to avoid potential errors. In this paper we are going to present a methodology for the development of applications in 3D Virtual Worlds that is based on results from previous related works, our experiences in developing 3D Virtual Worlds and influences from agile and Web 2.0 software development practices. The methodology is defined on a high level and serves as a guideline covering all stages of the development life cycle. We present two new stages, a familiarization stage and a technology selection stage, which have not been considered in this detail in other methodologies so far and discuss how the methodology has been established within the context of creating a 3D e-Tourism environment.","PeriodicalId":407855,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Information Society","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114076187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
